ISU vs. TT: 'I knew it was over when ...'

After our first TD of 2nd half. My nephew then suggested we go to "Continuous Clock Mode" in the interest of getting out early.

I started to think it was going to be our day when the Park made the first throw to Lazard. It was thrown behind him and right over the defender's shoulder and Lazard made the catch. I said "That is was Tech usually does. Game on!"

You haven't been a Cyclone fan very long have you?

I'll take your bait there. Approaching 40 years as an ISU fan.

At 42-3, Tech would've need four straight TDs to make it a 2-possession game (assuming no 2-point conversions). Only a complete meltdown by ISU's offense AND defense was going to make me nervous. There was little evidence at that point that both would happen.

I love this thread knowing that there were thousands of fans there thinking "Ok, so if we go 3 and out every time, and it takes us on average 2 minutes, and if they score each time they get the ball in an average of 1:30, they could catch us by...." like we were trying to solve those old "If a train leaves Columbus, Ohio traveling at 95 MPH questions"

When I was down on the field walking behind the TT bench on my way up to my seat after the first quarter and I looked at their guys right in the eyes and knew they didn't want to be there.

Good thread.

Sad that even at 45-3, I was still uncomfortable going into the second half. Seen too many collapses to be comfortable. But when we responded to their TD with a score of our own, I was good.

Same here. 45-3 is a good lead, but it was too early for me to feel all that comfortable

Midway through the third quarter I was feeling pretty good but I didn't really relax until we had held on to our large advantage going into the 4th quarter.

Anyone see how quickly West Virginia closed the gap on OU? OU was up 35-0 in the first half and up 41-7 late into the 3rd quarter. West Virginia scored 21 quick points and all of the sudden it was 41-28 with 10 minutes to go. Obviously OU responded and put them away.

I was worried that something similar would happen and our guys wouldn't respond well after all of our late game collapses. I hope those days are behind us.

When the guy in the stands behind me said "EVERYTHINGS COMING UP MILHOUSE!" after the multiple-tip 2nd interception.

Actually it was after the 1st TD of 2nd half, as others stated. But his comment was too funny not to share.

After the maybe 4th or 5th time I saw Lanning go in on 3rd down and convert it. Over and over again.

Seriously, how can they not stop that? They might have stopped him on 3rd down once the entire game, yet everyone on the sidelines, in the stadium, and everyone at home watching knew what was coming every single time.

I was 98% confident when Lazard had his one-handed catch. I was completely confident half way through the fourth quarter.

Yep....it comes from seeing the seemingly impossible become possible. I recall thinking of something similar, and it was the process of acknowledging that mathematically it was certainly possible for Tech to come back without anything exceptional happening.

Hopefully CMC can change the culture of the fanbase to where we're comfortable with a lead even if it's not 50.
