Iowa game at Kinnick under the lights?

I.C. is one of the great tailgating experiences. Hopefully some of you who haven't will get there this year.

This game should NEVER be at night. I understand that TV makes all the decisions on this though. Neither Iowa or ISU has any say one way or the other.

Which is the #1 reason that I tend to believe that it won't happen.

Is there some great national clamoring for this game to be at night? Is it likely to draw monster TV ratings for some reason?

As I noted earlier, it will very likely end up on BTN if it is at night (zero percent chance that it would get an ABC national slot, slightly greater chance that it could wind up on ESPN/2 opposite an SEC or Pac 12 game; pretty sure the 2002 game was on The Deuce).

Nobody ever cares about this rivalry outside of the state borders. Iowa will probably start the year ranked, but it's very unlikely they'll be high enough by Week 2 to draw enough eyeballs to really make this a must-see TV event.

I agree though, this might finally put an end to this series, which would be fine with me. It should be a great, fun, instate rivalry game, but it just isn't that. It's far from that. It's generally just pure hatred coming from both sides, and nothing really good comes from it at all.

The sooner this series ends the better IMO. And if they play this thing at night this year, that might just be enough to do it. The true football fans on both sides don't really want this thing to continue. It's not an enjoyable game to attend anymore for true football fans. For drunken idiots that don't care about football, sure, it's a great thing. Not so much for the rest of us.

I'd be fine getting rid of the game. We have one non conference P5 game and I'd rather play a team from a good conference that would look better if we won

Where do you get this idea? Iowa fans are the only people I've ever talked to that like tailgating at Iowa. Outside of Iowa fans, nobody likes tailgating there, and for good reason, it's terrible.

Every year that goes by, there is less and less parking there. Between the hospital growing and growing, and the football facilities expanding and taking over more and more parking lots, it's become absolutely horrible. Iowa didn't have enough parking before, but now it's nearly gone completely anywhere around the stadium.

Right. The only reason ISU's SOS got as high as it did last year was because you played 12-0 and #4 ranked Iowa as one of your OOC games. You remember bragging about that SOS every week, right?

Something tells me you're not as objective as one might be on this either.

Love tailgating for Iowa games. If you want to tailgate in a big parking lot, you can. Right next to Kinnick, you can. Smaller parking lots around the stadium, you can. In yards on residential streets where it turns into a block party, you can. It's the variety of settings for you to choose from that makes it great, along with everything happening along Melrose.

Sat in the student section on Jake Knotts interception game. I was expecting way worse. Besides this dumb chick who thought she was entitled to everything and yelled at us for 10 minutes, it wasn't that bad. Few cans/cups thrown at us after that interception, but wasn't bad.

Lot of yelling at us while walking back to we were staying but I feel like that is to be expected.

From the most historic, nationally relevant, farthest reaching, classiest and wealthiest fan base in America though?

Losing to the #22 Sagarin team is not the reason our SOS was so good. Playing in the Big 12 is the reason our SOS was what it was. I'd rather play a middle of the pack SEC team that people would be impressed with if we won than a team from Iowa City that revolves their whole season around the one game

I don't think it's that easy to get into the big parking lot next to the stadium.

It comes down to personal preference I guess, but for me, it's not tailgating if you're in someones front yard and miles away from the stadium.

I've tailgated at Iowa and it just felt weird and disjointed. Not much you can do about it though. I personally prefer one big *** lot to party in with everyone.

It would be a damn shame if this series ended, and dont claim Im not a true fan or a drunken idiot just because I hold that opinion. Some of the greatest memories I have attedning ISU football games come from this rivalry. If I had to name the Top 5 games I have ever attended, the 2002, 2005 and 2011 games would probably make the cut. This rivalry is not bad at all and if you think it is you need to open your eyes. Most of us who have friends and family who are fans of the other side can actually have a friendly rivalry without too much hate, and in fact, its a great excuse for me to reach out to friends I dont get to talk to all that often so I would say some good comes from it.

Last year you guys did help our SOS, I admit that. Still doesn't mean you were actually all that good though. The B1G was terrible.

But it's our in conference schedule that usually puts our SOS WAY above Iowa's every year. Iowa played virtually nobody in conference last year, and again this year too by the way. Which is why Iowa's record was so over inflated last year. So glad Stanford put them in their place.

But generally, beating Iowa hasn't done much for us. That's mostly our own fault though, but part of it is that Iowa just isn't that good. Beating Iowa or not beating Iowa usually doesn't indicate how our conference season will go at all because most of the teams we play in conference are usually better than Iowa anyway.

It has routinely been mentioned in different publications and lists of some of the best tailgating in the country.

Fact.

Many members of other fanbases comment on how much they enjoy the tailgating in Iowa City.

The space crunch has gotten worse over the years, but no, parking is not nearly gone. I park right by the stadium, and I'm a not a donor to the university.

Tailgating in Iowa City sucks and even my friends who are Hawkeye fans will admit that. Cmon man. They'll blame Mason for the demise but the set up is just awful

I'm guessing it gets talked up because of Iowa's reputation for being a big party school, but your tailgating layout straight up sucks.

If Kinnick actually had a good layout it might be a fantastic tailgating atmosphere, but walking from one small lot to another and hanging out in some dudes front yard is not my idea of tailgating.

I dont think the tailgating in Iowa City is near as bad as some make it out to seem on here, but it doesn't hold a candle to the setup at Iowa State.

Well that's, like, your opinion, man.

I could give you the phone numbers of 1,000 Iowa fans right now who would state exactly the opposite, but for some reason I think you'd dismiss it.

I've been to Ames for a CyHawk game and I would rank it near the bottom of the several hundred tailgating experiences that I've had in my life.

This is a little bit like arguing about women. Some like fat girls, some skinny, some white, some dark-skinned...some even like dudes (NTTAWWT).

Everyone has their own opinion, and yours has been duly noted.

I guess that's where we differ then. No biggie. Different preferences I guess.

I usually dread going to the ISU-Iowa game, no matter where it's being played. I was in IC for the 2002 game. Obviously I loved the outcome, but I still wouldn't say I "enjoyed" it. People yelling obscenities at me every time I went to the restroom or concessions, etc. Drunk Iowa fans in the stands around us nearly threatening our lives if we even thought about cheering for ISU.

Just not enjoyable for me at all. And afterwards, I just wanted to get to my car and get out of there alive. Surviving was my #1 concern, not enjoying the victory.

It's just become too hostile for my liking. I can take good natured ribbing from a healthy rivalry, but this has become much different IMO at this point. Dodging **** filled beer cans flying through the air at you is not enjoyable for me.

Iowa has a unique stadium and gives them a pretty nice place to play. Similar to Hilton/Carver.

But anyone who says that Iowa City is a better place to tailgate versus Ames is stupid. been there many times and done both venues.
This would kind of be like me as a vikings fan saying the Vikings is a better place to tailgate than the Chiefs.
Cars in parking lots, churches and back yards versus a wide open concept like ISU and KC.
Not even close guys.... I would argue if Iowa is 3-9, there would be 40K people there and most students would be at home. You see that with a 5 win season.
sometimes you get a good rep for just having some tradition.
ISU has none and has a better place than Iowa. I can't imagine if we win 8 to 9 games what it would be.
