Recruiting ISU Football

I agree that improved recruiting will greatly help the new staff. However, many other schools have shown (us included), half of the game is developing those recruits. Something we haven't done as well as possible. Hoping Coach Campbell and staff have that ability.

This! It drive me bonkers when we were searching for a coach and it was brought up many times that we need a recruiter. As that is true, more importantly we need a staff that can develop guys.

U R right under CPR 2016 would just be a wasted year....Coach Matt Campbell has impressed me with his energy and his level of recruiting, which is superior to what we got under Rhoads......

HellsBells guys if we just traded players with Toledo, it would be an upgrade of what we had under Rhoads...

Go Cyclones
Agree with your first comment, but must respectfully disagree on the second point. Don't forget, we beat Toledo last year, and should have won this year. I see no difference in talent between this year's Toledo team and ISU. The respective records are a function of schedule strength, not talent.CMC will need to recruit better players to ISU than he did to Toledo, or we will not be moving up the conference standings. Btw....I think he will get better players, and am quite optimistic.

he was talking about Toledo's recruiting class (not the team on the field) ..............Toledo's class was higher ranked at the time of the job change
I think (not positive) that was due to the # of commits, not the average "value" of the commits

I think my favorite part about that article was that Northrup was the one who hosted him. Probably means he is staying. Hopefully Harvey stays too.

I think the guys on the 2-deep are pretty much staying. Have heard a few rumors about Cotton-Moya and D'Vario. Don't know whether those are more fiction or more fact.

Have heard that besides Rohach, there could be some Freshmen transfer. Probably some truth to that. Probably those who don't see where they fit going forward.

We have had a few decommitments. IMO, the guys we seem to be getting in their place are an upgrade. We have flipped a few commitments to Iowa State in the short time Matt Campbell has been here. There are some pretty decent higher regarded guys we have gotten and also some we are after.

IMO, in comparing the recruiting that is going on under Matt Campbell to CPR is that we have definitely improved. We have retained some of the commitments made to Iowa State under CPR and added new ones under Matt Campbell. What Matt Campbell has done at Iowa State in a limited amount of time is impressive. Fans should be excited. Matt Campbell has been true to his word when he said that his entire staff would be involved with recruiting. It is a whirlwind. Lots happening.

A lot of people bring up the we should have beaten Toledo thing. But problem is there are few games that we should have won (KSU, OSU, to a lesser extent Iowa) but we didn't. Given our pattern to lose those games we were not a better team than Toledo. People forget we had a chance to win in OT too but didn't make the plays and Toledo did.

When all your kicker has to do is kick a very short field goal, and your team has out gained the other team, yes, you should win the game.

It worked out for Toledo, but they were not in control of whether they won or lost. Iowa State was.

Netten should make that field goal 90% of the time at least.

That was the case for a lot of games for Iowa State this year. And the reason CPR was let go. Losing games that we really should have won, and somehow lost.

ISU did not "give" that game to Toledo. We did not have better coaching than them, nor did we have better talent. Now we have a new coach and hopefully both will change.

I saw that we are too 3 with Thadd Daniels. He would be a good get. Could be a safety with some decent size. We really need help at the safety position right now.

Looking back over the last decade, recruiters are more important to Ames than coaching. We have three players in NFL with Chizik in two years and two players in NFL with Rhoads for 7 years.

They say he is a Corner. But that could change when they get him to campus. Or they could move someone like Wiltz who has played some safety.

Why would D'vario go anywhere? he already sat out a year to transfer here. He could be the number 1 guy somewhere like UNI or something, but he is going to have better exposure here and who knows how Campbell will utilize him. With Q leaving, D'vario is going to get a lot of looks when Lazard is double
covered.
