Recruiting ISU Football

Anyone have an idea of how many commits we have now? They can't really have a whole lot of scholarships left unless they are expecting quite a few transfers.

I kind of felt like, outside 3-4 guys, the CPR staff wasn't hitting on all cylinders recruiting wise.

CMC said he expects all 9 of his guys to actively recruit (no passes to OC's/DC's).

14 according to Rivals. We move up to #81 on their list.

We have 13 commits. Dennis Wonnum TE decommitted a while ago and Rivals still has him as committed.

Sounds like we might take about 20 altogether. Maybe a few transfers, likely freshmen, plus Rohach who has transferred to Buffalo.

Energy and momentum in recruiting can't be understated. We're building from basically the bottom, gotta start by beating out MAC schools before you can beat out Big 12 schools.

This is all you need to know about Paul Rhoads recruiting."I don't know how this comes across, but I'll say it anyway," Rhoads said. "We shouldn't beat Texas, probably. ... Every kid that they recruit — if I go recruit them, I'm not going to get them, but we (beat them). And we have twice." That staff was defeated in recruiting before they started. This staff lives for recruiting. The staff is way behind the 8 ball but they are doing amazing things

Florida natives Wally and son Shane were on cruise control. Recruiting Florida was a built-in family vacation.

best of both worlds here. Shane got to coach with Dad. Wally got to see his grandchildren

So things got stale and complacent.

Campbell is going after guys that Iowa State and/or Toledo were recruiting or targets that the Illini coach Alex had for the most part. It would be very difficult to go after a ***+ recruit that you haven't contacted before this late in the recruiting season. The biggest signings are the OG Oge and Payne the CB who should make an impact or solid contribution in my opinion.

The was nothing left for the previous staff to sell. Hope was gone, recruiting was stagnant and losing was happening way too often. CPR had to be fired after the season or you are just throwing the towel for 2016.

U R right under CPR 2016 would just be a wasted year....Coach Matt Campbell has impressed me with his energy and his level of recruiting, which is superior to what we got under Rhoads......

HellsBells guys if we just traded players with Toledo, it would be an upgrade of what we had under Rhoads...

Go Cyclones

All we heard for years under CPR was how they couldnt get kids to fly and visit Ames but if they got them here our chances were good. I never..ever bought the excuse of we can't get recruits to visit due to cost....BS. And CMC is proving that excuse wrong...not to mention that if it were that hard getting kids to spend money to fly here then change your recruiting strategy and gee..idk..start recruiting surrounding states more heavily like CMC is and many of these kids could drive to Ames for a visit! It's why CMC mentioned the 4 hour radius because kids and their parents can drive..easy. That includes Minneapolis, all Iowa, Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago, Madison area. A lot of Ohio is 7-9 hours...which is also drive able.

When this staff is fully complete it will be the best recruitng staff we've ever had here. Hands down.

I like what Campbell has done recruiting in a short time, but lets not kid ourselves. CPR's tenure has been on deathwatch for three years and that is going to matter when competing for kids with other Power 5 offers, no matter how much mom and dad like the campus or the athlete likes the facilities. You really can't compare the two guys because the situations are so different.

I am excited to see how CMC can sell kids on ISU. He's going to get the time, he's got the facilities, and the support of fans we all know will always be there. He's the first head coach to have those things, most importantly the facilities and developmental tools, right from first jump. Recruits should respond positively to that.

Then all he needs to do is win football games, and he'll be in great shape.

Of course we will not see the real impact of the recruiting for a few years, that's a given. But if you don't see the excitement and enthusiasm for the program that this younger staff has brought in and stirred up, you may need to get your eyes checked or make a twitter account. These guys get it. It's not hard to imagine HS player would be more open to playing for a guy like Campbell or Golesh compared to coming in and playing for Grandpa Wally. It's only been a few weeks but they've done about as well as you can in your first weeks on the job.

So you suspect this class will rank higher than Rhoads' past classes, right? I hope you're correct.

This class? It wouldn't be fair to assume this class will be highly ranked. If it's even with a typical CPR class that would be good. The class was fairly close to done when he got here because it's a small class this year and it was so late.

You would think that we would be able to bring in some players who want to play with the likes of Warren and Lazard. It will be interesting to see where our class is ranked. New life at this point was key but I don't think that there is any special feat in getting a player to come to ISU over a MAC school. These guys are being paid millions to give full scholarships to Big 12 schools. It will be impressive if we come out around the middle of the conference in recruiting IMO.

I agree that improved recruiting will greatly help the new staff. However, many other schools have shown (us included), half of the game is developing those recruits. Something we haven't done as well as possible. Hoping Coach Campbell and staff have that ability.
