Starting to look like it was more an issue with the recruiting skills or tactics of our previous coaching staff rather than our program or location of our school or any other excuse we've had. I know CPR appealed to some and certainly had the respect of his players, but we're seeing some stuff happening with the new staff that we most likely wouldn't have seen with CPR. Looking forward to seeing what they do next year with a full year of recruiting.

Too early to tell, but it looks more promising than the Rhoads regime.

It seems like our new head coach is a relentless recruiter, however, I don't think we should get too excited quite yet.

He has landed a couple highly rated recruits, but for the most part he's just beating out MAC schools for these 2 star guys. I'm not saying they won't pan out, but who's to say Rhoads couldn't have brought in a ton of recruits like this that no other P5 schools want? Maybe Rhoads was a bit more selective? I don't think we know the answer to that yet?

I hope that Campbell has a better eye for talent and picking out the diamonds in the rough, and then developing them better once they are here. That is what we're going to have to count on. But just because he's bringing in a bunch of commits really fast doesn't mean they are any better quality than the recruits Rhoads would have brought in. Like I said, we don't know the answer to that quite yet.

Agree, it's too early. We landed multiple recruits on-par with what Campbell has landed so far during Rhoads' tenure, so I think we need to be realistic.

With that said, I am quite impressed with what Campbell has done in such a short time. Let's hope he can keep the momentum going!

It does seem like the recent recruits attributed to CMC have much more interest from other schools than the generic CPR recruit. But you're right - results of his recruiting won't be known for 2, 3 or 4 years.

cautiously semi-optimistic then? It does seem like a step up so far.

Most definitely I'm cautiously optimistic. It is why I thought it was time for a head coaching change. We needed reason for hope.

I'm just saying, for the most part he's bringing in MAC level type recruits, which I think Rhoads probably could have brought in as well. My hope is that more of Campbell's two star MAC level recruits end up panning out for us than Rhoads' two star recruits.

And don't get me wrong, I know Campbell is landing a few guys that were 3 star guys that had other P5 offers, but for the most part he's landing the same level recruits that Rhoads did.

But if Campbell can develop them better AND be a better gameday manager than Rhoads, that will be the difference I'm hoping to see.

Most of these kids we are getting have 1 or 2 power 5 offers which is more than most of the recruits in the past. Like oh have said before last year's class only had a couple guys with a power 5 offer.

4 Star commits, an immediate renewed interest and buzz around the school. Commits confirming their commitment from before Rhoads left, highly regarded players still being recruited. Even though we won't see the results for a few years you would have to be a fool to not notice Campbell is a better recruiter.

So you suspect this class will rank higher than Rhoads' past classes, right? I hope you're correct.

I agree, too early to tell for sure. However, I think the fact these guys just landed at ISU a few weeks ago and are recruiting as if their lives depended on it is refreshing. It seems to be a major focal point of their plan at ISU. This is why while I'm pleased with what we've seen so far, but I'm really excited to see what they can do next year with a full recruiting calendar.

MC is a hell of a recruiter. Absolutely blown away at what he has done so far. Big time talent in a few weeks. Just need to shore up the oline and get better qb play.

The problem is, Rhodes wasnt bringing them in.

I'm just impressed that this staff has hit the ground running, and seems tireless in their efforts to bring in recruits. It does seem right now that, as a staff, they are better able to close the deal than the previous staff may have been.

Obviously, it is too early to tell what the results of this recruiting will be, but there is one factor that no one seems to mention much. We have no idea right now how good this staff is at recognizing talent, and developing it, and we won't know that for probably at least a couple of years. We do know that generally, the previous staff was not very good at that, particularly on the offensive side of things, imho.

Another thing that I think makes this recruiting impressive so far is the fact that ISU does not even have an OC, DC or S&C coach hired or designated as far as I know. I would think for some recruits, those might be important coaches to have in place. Hopefully, the staff will get filled out in the next couple of weeks.

If this class ranks above Rhoad's classes, it would be amazing. They've had just a few weeks of recruiting here, then lose a big chunk to the dead period before closing in Feb. Next years class will be more telling, but I do think they have a chance to make this class a very good one.

We actually kind of struggled in beating out MAC schools for these 2 star guys under CPR. Look at our recruiting ratings under CPR compared to what Toledo had under Matt Campbell.

We just landed a Juco CB that has 3 years to play 3. That Juco CB was a Rivals 250 player when he came out of HS. We are also recruiting a Juco QB that has 3 years to play 3. That Juco QB was a Rivals 250 player when he came out of HS.

The decommitments we have had are lower rated than the guys we are getting in their place. And the commitments we are getting and the pace that we are getting them, indicates that our recruiting is definitely at a higher level.

Would you feel better if we weren't getting any commitments under CPR? And then you could tell yourself that we were just being selective.

The was nothing left for the previous staff to sell. Hope was gone, recruiting was stagnant and losing was happening way too often. CPR had to be fired after the season or you are just throwing the towel for 2016.

So far he seems to be a good politician/salesman, which is a part of all of it.

Hopefully the results and products follow though.

What's amazing to me is how this staff is sellin whatever it is when they have only been here for a couple weeks. But then again maybe that's easier to do versus him being here for a couple years, especially if they are struggling to get wins.
