I chose "pessimism" but it's actually a mix of pessimism, apathy, and boredom.

Apathy because, well, for example, the week of the Kansas game my in-laws were visiting and I decided it was better use of my time to go apple picking at a local orchard with them, my wife, and 6-year old daughter than to stay home and watch the game. I checked the score a couple of times, but otherwise "meh". Even worse, when we got home, I let them watch the end of the Iowa-Wisconsin game. I just didn't care.

Boredom because normally I like to participate in football discussions on this site, on other sites, etc, not just on gameday, but all week. Instead, I've been going out of my way to avoid football discussion most of the time. Yeah, I'm in this thread, but I haven't been in a lot of football threads this year.

Pessimism, because when I am in threads, I'm just not seeing the positives. When things are going good I'm one of the biggest sunshine pumpers there is. Now? Sunshine pumpers are annoying the hell out of me.

I'll watch, if I have nothing else to do. I can't remember the last time I yelled at the TV or got excited about a good play. It's just like watching any other college football team, almost like no dog in the fight anymore.

So, apathy for me.

My oldest daughter's first ISU game is this weekend. I've tried to prepare her for what it's going to be like, but I'm concerned for her fandom if it plays like I expect it to play.

Have fun tailgating with her. Let her play with her friends on the hillside. Buy her some new ISU swag. The experience is more important than the score for most kids. Don't let the final score set the mood for the day. It's about building a fan for life not just the score.

Apathy and boredom, mostly apathy.

When I listen to the games on the radio I find myself laughing at our mistakes, rather than being upset. The most common word on our CB radios (shared channel between me, dad, and 6-10 neighbors) is "classic" with a chuckle as we do something stupid.

Even though my hate for Iowa runs deep, I almost look forward to listening to their games more than ours. Better team to listen to, games that are actually competitive, better radio guys, etc.

Meh.

Lets not get carried away...

My take - cheer my butt off and go to the game but don't get my hopes up. Oh and make sure to enjoy tailgating beforehand to soften the blow a bit.

I voted optimism, but this is my feeling about the program as a whole. Believe me, I still look at the coaching staff, the way the players play at times and wonder why I even bother sometimes. So, I do have a mix of everything listed in the poll. But, I am the eternal optimist when it comes to Cyclone football. Yeah, I knew going into the TTech game that it was going to be a long shot we'd hold them enough to win. I look at the TCU game and am getting prepared to be embarrassed once again when another team sets a record against the Cyclones once again (anyone ever wonder if we actually are in the record books more than any other team? Not because we hold any special records, but it seems teams are always setting them against us. So yeah, OU, Texas, they are all in there a lot, but if you think about it, "Against ISU" Is probably mentioned the most.

I digress, my point is that I always go into each week holding out hope that this is the week we figure out how to put it all together and turn the program around. I mean ****, I've been a fan for over 40 years. At this point, it's either move on, pick another team or go ahead and keep your head up and keep hoping. There are a lot of good things about this program, the fans, the stadium, who the stadium is named after, etc. It's just mind boggling that we can't figure out how to win a few more games a year.

Learnt to work the saxophone,
I play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whiskey all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world,
I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama, "The Crimson Tide"
Call me Deacon Blues

Is there a combination of apathy and pessimism? Like, I'm to the point that I'm not caring, but I'm also upset that I'm driven to not care at the same time.

Yes, it's called Pessipathy and it's REAL. Go see a Dr. immediately if you think you may be afflicted.

What?

I have never left a game early in which I attended, but I just don't have the interest in it anymore. At this point, I'm just bored and unexcited about ISU football. If a game is close then I'll obviously get into it, such as the Iowa game. Overall, my attitude is 'oh hey, ISU is playing at 3:30, I'll watch the 1st quarter and if we are getting blown out, then I'll switch it to another game'

These past couple seasons, I just haven't been able to get into ISU football at all after the first game. The back to back wins of shutting out Kansas and winning at West Virginia gave me false hope, which was probably the last time I was excited about ISU football.
