I like it. The Cy is feeling high and mighty. It's amazing what a conference tournament championship and playing in the round of 64 will do for one's confidence!

If you expect your statement to be taken seriously, you may want to expand on the two word phrase you bolded.

Exactly.

No wonder they loved Alford so much, eh? Couple huge "championships" in the conference tourney and some sweet NCAA tourney flameouts.

he went from being a possible 1st round draft pick to last pick in the draft. Maybe regression is the wrong term here. Didn't meet expectations perhaps...

Hey man, you brought up the term regressed, not me.

Exactly.

And what the **** has iowa done besides "improve every year"??? You're the ******* idiots thumping your chests over here.

Woodbury SUCKS and because of that you can't argue any reasoning with him playing as your rationale. Marble regressed...

Regressed right into a bench role in his rookie NBA year. That's rich.

How's your guy that's afraid of flying NBA career going by the way?

So 1 tourney win in how many years? good grief you guys are high

Please read the context of my post. I wasnt saying we are some blue blood now, far from it. Im just pointing out that we are improving, no matter how you slice it, thats the reality, and some of you cant see that.

You seem like you would know this (and I mean that in a good way)

Wasn't J.R. Angle a 5 star when he committed to Iowa as a freshman too?

Exactly.

I've noticed Iowa fans tend to downplay our conference tournament championships. The same years we do that they get beat by Northwestern and Penn St in the BTT. We've beat UCONN, Notre Dame, and North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament the last few years while they have a single win against Davidson. Continue puffing out your chests Iowa fans.

Um, the difference is Iowa fans have been very grounded and saying they went from absolute **** to gradually getting a little better every year under their coach. Unlike the Iowa State fans who think they are now a Kansas, UK, Michigan State.

It's just delusional.

But amusing.

Any Iowa fan with half a brain isnt down playing your success. Youve had a fantastic four year stretch. But by the same token, it doesnt mean Iowa hasnt improved as well.

Iowa beat North Carolina on the road and Notre Dame at Iowa in the past two seasons. Don't remember seeing any credit from Cyclone fans on that one.

Link to where iowa state fans think they are now a kansas, UK, Michigan State?

What is amusing is your little brother complex.

That's a good point. In all seriousness, I hope Iowa State and Iowa continue to improve and bring in good players. This state is big enough to have two good basketball programs.

We already have two, ISU and UNI spent nearly all of last year in the top 25. They both proved themselves head and shoulders above the other teams in the state last year.

Improved but not the level where ISU fans would trade any of the past four seasons (and likely five) for Iowa's best season under Fran.

I just don't get it, it's not like you even have head to head (1-4, could be 1-5 soon). Why are you over here chest thumping?

You can hope that after next year Prohm struggles. Next year and the previous five there is just no comparison between the programs. The amount of weight you guys put on Marble getting drafted late second round is hilarious. He hasn't played any more than Babb and he's played a LOT less than Diante Garrett, he was drafted lower than Royce and likely drafted lower than Monte will be.

ISU has been ranked for two years STRAIGHT and will likely start out 7th-12th this season. When KF was on his hottest streak I wouldn't have dreamed of comparing football programs...yet you guys are constantly hear hyping up 1-1 in five seasons vs 4-4 over the same 5 years including some B12 tourney titles. Give it a rest.

There is a difference between winning in the postseason and winning in the regular season.

You also have a short memory because there were Cyclone fans, myself included, that gave you props for beating ND after immediately coming back from the Battle 4 Atlantis.

I don't get it. They don't have head to head or overall accomplishments (not even on UNI)...yet here they are.

Hilarious that this thread has now gone on for 20 pages for a kid that has made a verbal commit to a school way too early to get too excited about. He may be a good player in a couple of years, but face it.....if he really is top 25 or whatever....Kentucky, UNC, Kansa, Duke, etc.... will likely come calling. Let's see what happens then.

It's just hilarious that so many hawk fans come over here trying to brag this up, yet they want to talk about ISU as being little brother. Comical.

But, I'm sure Woodbury, Mike G. and company will have no problem beating ISU this year, now that CFH is gone. After all, Fran is every bit the coach Fred is/was and Iowa has really been just as good of a team as ISU the last 5 years or so. Plus, we all know that Iowa's program has gotten just as much national attention in recent years as ISU, right?

Hell, I bet this year, Woodbury might improve so much that he will even have more blocks than Monte.......now that will put ISU in their place!

Agreed that the kvetching about a player heading into his sophomore year is a bit comical. I'm happy that Wieskamp committed to Iowa, given that (at this time) he's so highly ranked, plus he is apparently good enough that Hoiberg and Jacobson from UNI felt compelled to extend scholarship offers already. That tells me there's likely "something" there with Wieskamp. One can never say never, but I would be shocked if Wieskamp looked elsewhere barring a coaching change at Iowa. The record of highly ranked Iowa kids committing to Iowa really early and ending up at Iowa is good (Jeff Horner, Dean Oliver, Ricky Davis, Chris Street). But how it actually plays out 3+ years from now, no one can tell for sure.

No Iowa fan (who is looking at things rationally) would say Iowa has been just as good as ISU the last 4 years. The W-L records speak for themselves. But that doesn't mean that Iowa basketball has been the equivalent of Iowa State football in that timeframe. Some (not all) ISU fans act as if Iowa is on the level of TCU in the past 5 years.

Cyclones will be rather significant favorite in the hoops game this year. That would be the case whether the Cyclones were being coached by Hoiberg, Prohm or Sponge Bob Squarepants.
