Well Nurse would certainly be a surprise IMO. He's a pretty damn good coach...he runs a wide open run first...3pt shot offense and he's a decent defensive coach as well. A few more years as an NBA asst and he likely would be in line for a Hc gig. What he did within the NBA D league was nothing short of a miracle given all the departures, imjuries. Etc.. They had during his tenure. He knows TJ well too and a Nurse/TJ staff would likely be an outstanding recruiting staff not to mention any other new staff members.

of course all this is prob just rumor as usual.

Once again, a conditional hire that requires the retention of TJ Otzelberger. We have a common theme here. Try making a coaching decision without the requirement that assistants on staff must remain. Let each coach stand on their own merits.

But I thought you wanted TJ? This would benefit Prohm, Underwood and Drew over TJ.

Where's TJ going to go? I see what u are saying but he's here under contract and a nurse hire doesn't free up a mid major job. What's he going to do? It has been several interviews over the past two months of TJ saying he and his wife couldn't wait to get back to Ames. What many don't seem to get is TJ is going to make more $$ here than at most mid major Hc jobs.

Fine. Now imagine TJ as the only coach without an older X and O coach helping the transition. Nearly every single person who advocates for TJ in the very next sentence says he needs to bring in a good veteran X and O coach. Lol.

That completely undermines your argument when you say he should have become a HC at a mid-major and suggested that he stayed as an assistant at high-major colleges because he could not get a HC job elsewhere.

TJ may stay for the coming year. But I could definitely see him leaving sooner rather than later. It would be obvious that his future in coaching is not at Iowa State. Time to move on. Better to move on and let the new coach fail than to use TJ's excellence at recruiting to remain Iowa State's Head Coach.

I have not made that assertion. Fred said that Otzelberger is an excellent X's and O's coach. That is good enough for me.

Haha, what do you think he his going to say?

The other coaches have won at least a share of 9 conference titles in 10 years...but hey, Fred said while talking about TJ that he is a good X's and O's coach so that makes up for any differences in experience.

IMO, Otzelberger brings as much or more to the table than any of the other guys. Plus Fred Hoiberg says he will make a "terrific coach". And Otzelberger is the only one who really knows Fred's ways of doing things of those 4 guys. And knows our team. Otzelberger gets the job on his own merits. And does not need the conditional requirement of "retaining Otzelberger for recruiting" like the other guys need according to all of you. IMO, Underwood is the best of the 3 mid-majors as he actually knows the Big 12 and recruited at this level and to this general geographical area.

A Divisional Title is a Conference Championship???? Belated Congratulations to Coach Dan McCarney and the 2004 Iowa State Cyclones for being the 2004 Big 12 Football Champions.

Fred would not have hired back Otzelberger a 2nd time if he was not a good coach. And Fred would not have even commented or given high praise for Otzelberger if he could not honestly do so. IMO, Fred is an honest guy. If you want to trash Fred that is your decision.

...TJ needs an experienced assistant more than any of those guys need TJ.

-'TJ gets the job on his own merits'?...the other 3 have 9 conference titles in 10 years. TJ has never been the one accountable for an in-game adjustment.

1. At no point have I trashed Fred...but as you have proven before, and been called out on. You aren't one to let facts get in the way of an argument.

2. Of course Fred is going to recommend someone in his coaching tree. What do you expect him to do? Have you ever watched one of these scenarios play out in your life? Coaches leaving on their own terms will ALWAYS endorse someone in their coaching tree.

Prohm has one conference championship.

Conference Champions get automatic bids to the NCAA Tourney. Between all 3 coaches they have 5 NCAA Tourney teams.

What evidence do you have that Otzelberger is not a good X's and O's coach?

None. Because he has NEVER been a head coach.

On the other hand, we do have evidence that Underwood, Prohm, and Drew can coach.
