Some of my concern is coaches recruit for the closing argument while the Otzes and MAs do the years long up front work. Otz as a head coach needs to hire a strong recruiter. Otz as a head coach at the same time needs to hire a new X&Os coach as he will be in training. Mann and Henry may not fit these niches. Seems a little heavy making offers to Wisconsin players. Hope to see more eastern ballplayers in the recruiting.
Better yet, team TJ with a HC, and get excited about the recruits they bring in.
I would imagine Nurse would have some good European connections coaching over there as long as he did. He's a candidate I can see doing a good job with the team we have, as it would be likely the NBA style of play would be maintained--the Raptors were third overall in offensive efficiency this year and got much of the credit for the improvement of that team this year. I don't have much else I know about him, though.
He's probably looking for Pollard so he can finally say to him face to face, "Let me mayor coach!"
Can't get any less for our money than the last time he was hired. First few months free sealed the deal?
I am guessing this is incorrect, but with the right staff he could be successful.
I just don't see Nurse unless there is some type of assurance that Mann and TJ are part of his staff. Plus I'd be curious what types of connections he has among college assistant coaches. Recruiting is a such a critical part of building a successful college program- especially for an ISU program that will have 6-8 open scholarships to fill in the 2016 class.
Sure Fred made it work, but he had the credentials of playing in the league for 10 years. Also as a front office guy, he had exposure to the college game more than an NBA assistant. IMO Fred was the exception, not the template for the future.
If TJ still has his prep school contacts, then I could see more kids from the east coast. Otherwise, I think it all depends on who his assistant coaches are and where they have connections.
I would actually like us to have more of a presence in Illinois and maybe with Fred with the Bulls that has given ISU some visibility there. The state of Texas is producing alot of basketball players, so maybe an assistant with connections down there would help.
Yeah...if the's the "mystery candidate" that has been mentioned, I'll be seriously underwhelmed.
Not to say he couldn't be a good to great coach at ISU, but a "meh" for me too.
I don't think this will be a problem...one of the more exciting things about him, in my mind. He must have many contacts within the "recruiting coaches" circle. Probably some enemies among them, but he's probably very familiar with a lot of these guys and may be able to lure a good one to our p5 school (with a top 10 roster, which makes recruiting in the future a little easier).
