I know Kevin Ollie just won a championship a year ago and it is unlikely he leaves, but right now, does the MBB job at Iowa State in the Big XII have more appeal than the job at UCONN in the American Conference?

Evidently, yes. He turned down offers to interview with NBA teams. Our guy accepted every offer to interview he could get his hands on. So, by transitive property, UConn has more appeal (at least to him).

If Leath supposedly wants to spend big for a big name, why isnt Gregg Marshall being mentioned? He would listen to a $4mm offer. Marshall is clearly holding out for a blue blood job due to his ego, but he also openly mentions that he is all about being highly compensated. he recruits jucos heavily, which has been done with success at ISU in the past, and he also has big personality that we've had here before. He has good recruiting connections around the midwest. he plays a fan-friendly style. would he then leave ISU for kentucky? sure. but in the meantime he would be getting paid a lot and winning in ames.

I'm surry Barry will keep that in mind when Bo needs to be replaced.

Re: ESPN wanted me to know at midnight...

If Prohm gets the job, I'm pointing directly at this alert as prophecy :spinny:

I like the idea of TJ as head coach with an experienced assistant head coach/proven recruiter out there. Steve Lavin was mentioned in here earlier and I like that he is from California and will have ties there as well as out East from coaching at St.John's. I think whoever comes in should TJ get the job should be involved with recruiting outside the Midwest since that seems to be TJ's hunting grounds.

Hines had Wisconsin assistant head coach Greg Gard on his list of candidates, but I haven't heard anything else about him. He seems very experienced under Bo Ryan and has interviewed for past jobs.

Thanks for the update Roland Rocket. I'll stick with my Dana Altman or T.J. wishes.

Just got off the phone with a guy who told me the other interested guy is Kevin Stallings. I haven't seen this name reported anywhere else yet?

Who was that MSU asst floated here a week or so ago? Did that get any traction?

Re: To everyone wanting a BIG name

I don't disagree you often Erik, but on this I think you are dead wrong. There is one other major reason to hire TJ: Because he has the skills and talent level to do the job. To us, just looking at his resume, there may be only "vague possible" upsides, but from JP's position those upsides are much more tangible. He'd know, he's worked with him for almost 10 years.

I view this a little differently. Fred ran the program with a definite sense of "win-now, we'll figure out the future later" urgency. If a slam-dunk hire like Hornacek were to come in, they could keep that pace going. But it's unlikely to be sustainable without a superstar coach willing to take those risks.

If a low/mid-major coach is hired, or TJ, Hoiball will end after this next season and the pace of the program will change. TJ or whoever will bring in far more 4-year players and far less transfers/risks. They will build the program in a more traditional model. THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY A BAD THING! In many ways this is the less risky way to go, especially if TJ can keep the Wisconsin talent pipeline open.

If TJ had these abilities, wouldn't he be part of winning programs more often, and wouldn't there be a lot more interest out there in the man as a head coach.

I'll disagree that hiring a mid-major coach ends the pace of play we're familiar with, since the guys we're talking to are more uptempo than many mid-majors.

It's Otz, Brian. It always has been Otz.

Hornacek and Altman are...

They're just fumes.

This is starting to feel accurate.

It was really just a poor word choice, I guess.

Yea, it was annoying the people who flipped as if he was being literal.

Kid was being a **** - and I think as a coach you have to nip that in the bud. Ask Isiah Cousins.

Does everyone realize anyone who's hired will be a letdown? We aren't getting another "Mayor". We had the Golden Child of Ames. Nobody will be able to fill those shoes at the time of the announcement. We'll have to just hope JP makes the right hire and the run continues but only time will tell.

Leath got his shot with the big-name guy and now JP and Fred will get their guy in Otz.

Otz can keep the Fred-ISU connection strong, Fred will be very willing to help Otz and we keep an NBA connections with Fred still involved with program. Keep Mann with his relationship to current Clones and bring in a former HC with defensive mindset like Doc was

Except for Leath's involvement. The guy came to ISU from North Carolina so you know he really wants a big name guy.

He may want a big name guy, but that doesn't mean he can get one. There just aren't any of those big names that want this job.
