It's Otz, Brian. It always has been Otz.

Hornacek and Altman are...

They're just fumes.

So if Underwood is a guy coming up from the Huggins/Martin coaching tree, does he coach a similar style? If that is the case, I can't imagine any of you guys hoping to see that style of play come to Hilton. Watching those teams is just downright painful.

Not similar to Huggins or Martin. Read a Fox Sports.com article where he acutally says 'I'm not either (Bob Huggins or Frank Martin), in terms of style. I think you have to be your own person...

ESPN wanted me to know at midnight...

Last night, ESPN woke me up by sending me an alert to my phone at MIDNIGHT to let me know that some guy from Murray State is in the mix for the HC job at ISU.

Whatever!

Please just give the job to TJ. He's far better than most of these mid-majors they're suggesting.

You can play the victim card with Hornacek too. Please hire him so that the fans are happy and the money keeps rolling in.

Not sure I understand that rationale. I'm specifically addressing the people that seem to have a loss aversion complex (i.e., not wanting to hire someone that might not stay for 10+ years).

I think it is going to be tough to find someone from the "outside" who is really interested, which is why I think TJ will be the most likely choice.

Can you imagine trying to follow Fred's act in Ames? No matter who the coach is next year (unfortunately, including TJ)...if this team fails to live up to expectations.....people will wonder what would have happened had Fred stayed, and will no doubt point out how the new coach is just not as good. It's inevitable. I'm not sure anyone except someone currently in the program would want to deal with that.

I guess you could say the only person that could step in behind Fred is the person that Fred trained to step in behind him.

If Leath supposedly wants to spend big for a big name, why isnt Gregg Marshall being mentioned? He would listen to a $4mm offer. Marshall is clearly holding out for a blue blood job due to his ego, but he also openly mentions that he is all about being highly compensated. he recruits jucos heavily, which has been done with success at ISU in the past, and he also has big personality that we've had here before. He has good recruiting connections around the midwest. he plays a fan-friendly style. would he then leave ISU for kentucky? sure. but in the meantime he would be getting paid a lot and winning in ames.

We?

He is ******* unbelievable, isn't he?

I just realized that I have been blocked by him on twitter. I think he's kind of an idiot but I don't remember tweeting him that I did.

Didn't he turn down Texas? If Texas can't woo him we sure as heck can't. Go worry about your 2 Ginger Teams.

I am intrigued who this 2nd "mystery brand name candidate" is? I got wind of Altman earlier yesterday but had not heard of anyone else. Hmmm...

Just got off the phone with a guy who told me the other interested guy is Kevin Stallings. I haven't seen this name reported anywhere else yet?

If TJ gets it now at least people wont think we didnt reach out to the other coaches. #TeamOtz

That's where I am at now. JH was my #1 choice, but if he's not interested then let's promote TJ and move on. To me, it's no more risky than anyone else mentioned including Altman.

marshall turned down Bama, not texas. bama was offering ridiculous money but Marshall wont risk hurting his ego by going to a potentially bad program.

Re: ESPN wanted me to know at midnight...

You mean the guy who's gone 104-29 averaging somewhere around 80 points per game... including a 2 loss season including a guy on the roster who's currently on the 76ers? Let's not forget about a guy on their team who's a projected mid 1st round pick for this year's draft.

Yeah, he must be really bad.

Eddie Sutton-type hires

We all know there are the blue bloods and perennial powerhouses in basketball, and along with those programs come coaches that are great fits at those schools (Self, Cal, K, Roy) but then there are also coaches who either no longer fit at those schools, or find trouble along the way and need a landing spot. Oklahoma State hired Eddie Sutton from Kentucky in 1990 and built a powerhouse of a basketball program in Stillwater at a place incredibly similar to Iowa State in Oklahoma State. As names have been mentioned with the Iowa State position, I keep thinking of potential coaches who are at top jobs who either aren't a fit, or just don't appear to last much longer at those schools, but still have quite a bit of potential to continue Iowa State's winning tradition that started under Fred. Dana Altman has been brought up earlier (not really at a bball powerhouse) but I keep thinking of Tom Crean at Indiana and John Beilein at Michigan. Both of these coaches have reached Final Fours and have built great programs, but have since cooled off at their respective jobs. A coach like this could be one more mentor for TJ before giving him the reigns to the program. I'm sure there are other names along these lines that could be mentioned.
