Miles Bridges tweet

Someone explain to me why Gene Chizik is being discussed in the Miles Bridges thread.

It's like playing 7-degrees of Kevin Bacon. It always comes back to Chizik! Bridges> Fred> Fred's Replacement> Pollard> Pollard's Past Hires> Chizik.

On any given Cyclone Fanatic thread you can usually get to Chizik in about 6 posts, whether its a football, or basketball thread. Politics & GLobal Warming threads usually take 7.

There are chizik coins in existence. To cross a bridge, sometimes you must pay a toll.

I hope this is a joke. Chizik was so awful of a coach that Auburn fired him two years after winning the championship. Chizik got ridiculously lucky and was able to take all of the previous coaches players. He's horrible and probably won't land another head coaching gig unless it's at a small school.
He's better than our current coach. End of story!

to be honest i wasnt even a huge ISU when Chizik was hired but I know it was pretty much lauded nationally as a huge surprise get for us. didnt work out, but on paper it was as good as we could have done.
Wut????

Anyway, nice for Hok fans to chime in on the Chizik hire...

mcdermotts hiring was lauded as a good hire at the time.

By who? a kid from iowa, that played in iowa, and only coached at lower level schools in the midwest (n. dakota/iowa/nebraska) with limited success... with that kind of worldly experience he should have been a home run hire for a conference like the big12, right?

The McDermott hire was much more positively received by the masses than the Hoiberg hire.

It was. Both he and Chizik were highly regarded when they were hired. I can't say I can blame JP for two hires that I thought were good at the time.

@TravisHines21: Catching up with Miles Bridges (’16, MI) http://t.co/cJwUzJqGg1

Seems a tad cocky..

“They say I’d fit in really well (at ISU),” he said. “They’ll run their offense around me every play.” - See more at: http://amestrib.com/hines-hoops/catching-miles-bridges-16-mi#sthash.lTCz9V5v.dpuf

Anyways.. want!

Maybe Fred renegotiates a deal with huge NBA buyout and says he'll stay for a while and he comes... This could be a blessing in disguise!

.....or not. Who knows.

Pretty sure he didn't just say this out of the blue.

We do it with Niang. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if our coaches told him that.

There were a number of power 5 schools going after his services, including two from our own conference kstate and Colorado to name a few. And had just led uni to three straight tournament bids. But don't let facts get in the way.

I was excited when JP hired McDermott. I thought it was a home run hire.

Upon further inspection though, it was obvious that McDermott was not a Big XII ready coach. Winning 3 mid-major conference tournaments is not that impressive when you consider McDermott went 0-3 in the NCAA Tournament at UNI. Fortunately for ISU, JP has matured as an AD and gotten better at his job.

McD was a better option than most of the other finalists. McD came in last second from what I remember. I think most other options that year were fired at their school a few years later.
