HAWKEYE FAN EXCUSES THREAD

Isn't the whole "Super Bowl" excuse that we are loaded with untalented Iowa kids that play out of their minds to prove to Iowa they should have been given a chance?

Yeah, we have a whole two more Iowa kids on our roster than Iowa does.

Wow, I checked out that dude's facebook page. He's everything you'd expect out of a person who would make a post like that. Lives up to just about every Hawkeye stereotype there is. Wow.

Was it the Grill Master at Golden Corral?

Looks like the excuse this year is 'we both suck' but I'm sure it will transform into 'super bowl' when they pick up some wins in MAC conference play while ISU is playing real football teams.

No, that's not correct. The SB excuse comes from the groupthink that ISU has vastly inferior players (regardless of location) who play to near super-human levels to beat the superior Iowa team, due to the emphasis the ISU coaching staff places on the game. They would typically back their assertion by ISU tanking games they should win in the Big 12, especially when we were part of the Big 12 North. They also claimed ISU fans would often state (after blowing a potential B12 North title), "Oh well, at least we beat Iowa."

Guy at work tried pulling that one today actually and then went on about the targetting call. And of course others were saying, "Iowa State doesn't care how bad the rest of their season goes as long as they beat Iowa."

Mike Hlas last night blamed the loss all on play calling. They evidently have a great receiving corp and if Iowa would have just thrown the ball vertically they would have won. Said Iowa State was able to do it and all they had was a "18 year old kid". We held them to 3 yards a rush because Iowa wasn't passing and we had 8 guys in the box.

I laughed when he praised Iowa State on the win as he had to "get this out fast". Glad to hear him call out at least one (and only one) "very good player' in Tom Farniok.

Mark my words. Iowa will stop playing us in football and beat us in the last game of the series. The rest of our lives we will hear about how Iowa has scoreboard forever regardless of how we beat them more times than not the past 20 years.
