Another arrest

@Theiceman_21: Want to apologize to ISU, my team, family, friends & community. This isn't me. I'll learn from this mistake and be a better person from it.

Doesn't seem like people even noticed this.

Like I said, how many on here look at their phone while driving? At least half and I'm probably off by 49%. I certainly don't condone anyone driving while drinking but a far worse problem is everyone texting and driving.

I even had a problem talking on my cell phone while driving. While on business it was too easy to get into a conversation and I'd find my mind was completely off of driving, and it scared the h out of me a couple of times before I just quit doing it.

Costly mistake, in more ways than the obvious. OWI fine and legal fees can reach $10,000.

It will cost him a third of that at the most.

I drank tonight and didn't drive but man there is a lot of stupid things said in this thread

Ehh..I'm more upset his shot didn't fall last season...Quit drinking and get in the gym Matt.

Some people are on here sounding like idiots while they compare driving under the influence to texting/eating while driving. Just shut up. Drinking and driving is dangerous and everyone knows better. Others on here sound like complete squares that are clearly out of touch with the reality of the world we live in. Newsflash to the squares: most people that drink socially have gotten behind the wheel when they shouldn't have. It doesn't make it right, but saying a 19 year old was stupid is redundant.

The bottom line is that the law is strict and I think it serves as sufficient punishment. Aside from the thousands of dollars in cost, probation, classes, and the fact that this will follow Matt on his record for the next decade, he also has to deal with every stranger he sees knowing his embarrassing predicament. Taking on all of that and more as a 19 year old away from home is going to be difficult for him. Considering he is seemingly a good kid that has done nothing but be a good Cyclone until this slip-up, I think the right thing to do is to let him work through this (and stop scolding him on message boards like a d-bag) and support him so he comes out of it a better Cyclone and a better man.

This. A thread for a player getting an OWI has reached 15 pages. Some are overreacting and others are showing they'd try to justify ANYTHING when it comes to an athlete breaking the law. Both sides are pretty sad

I don't think there's a single person on this site that would justify ANYTHING for an athlete. And nobody is trying to act like drinking and driving isn't a brutal mistake. I think both sides are actually fairly close on this issue.

MADD has been after drunk driving since 1980. And it's worked. I just think texting is a bigger issue right now.

Wow. So when being concerned or bothered about a student-athlete getting an OWI makes you "square." So if you were Matt Thomas, you'd tell your upset parents "quit being such squares mom and dad." Good god.

Matt's parents being upset about this is a bit different than a bunch of random message board posters belittling him when they don't even know any details.
