Student Section

I'm pretty vocal when it comes to pointing out that our student section is completely made up of nerds. Like literally everyone of them looks like they wear Arizona jeans with new balance shoes. What is the deal with that? My friends and I rewind the game at half time and just laugh at screenshots. At football there seems to be a bunch of non virgins and normal looking girls, where the hell they go?

Side note: who was the neon nerd in front row today wearing neon shoes and neon shorts. If that wasn't bad enough, his chubby little hairless legs were blindingly white.

It's because they oversold this year. Overselling means kids have to be willing to stand outside for hours and not get in no matter who we play. Risk vs reward ..... Reward isn't big enough on smaller games. Kids are staying home because they expect to not get in

Overselling is not the problem and not related to kids not showing up. Every student ticket holder who has attempted to attend a game since Jan 13 (KU) has gotten in. Yesterday there were even seats open in the lower sections. And what was the percentage of students that didn't get into the KU game? That's one of nine conference games.

The student attendance is embarrassing for a school that is ranked #11 in the nation.

The students did have to stand in line for hours for good seats for several games this season. But for almost all of the games, you could get in. Plus since the Kansas State game, there have been hundreds of empty student seats and you could have come at any time and found a good seat.

I have a sister at Iowa State who got in line at 11 yesterday, was let in almost right away and ended up in row 6, but could have been closer.

There are no excuses.

It is sad that the students don't want to come out to these games....for either the men's or the women's teams.

There really are no excuses. I don't see how you can blame it on the ticket policy when there has been only one or two game this year when some students may have been turned away. The excuse that they have to stand in line for hours and may not get in can't be used now because any moron who watches the games on tv, or even just the highlights can see that the student sections are not close to being full.

Even if these teams were lousy, they still deserve the support of the students. But, these are good teams, in fact in the case of the Men's team.....a really good team. Students need to realize that their attendance can also affect recruiting. Does anyone think recruits are impressed (like all of the Indian Hills team yesterday) when they come to check out a game at ISU, the no. 11 team is playing, and the student section is basically empty and the building is dead?

What is also amazing about this is that there were times in the past when the student sections were filled, with a lot fewer students attending ISU. Now, ISU can't even get about 8 percent of its students to attend the games. That's pretty embarrassing.

Here are several reasons for diminishing attendance at The Hilton:

1- young people no longer participate in "competitive" sports. Think participation "trophies."
Ok. Sure. IF ELEMENTARY LITTLE LEAGUERS WERE PART OF THE STUDENT SECTION! A lot of the students were probably high school athletes and still have their competitive attitudes. Last I checked, they don't give participation medals at the state track meet.
2- admit it ... They are techno geeks with independent lives around their eye phones. People and crowds are irrelevant outside their little hand held escape device.
Yes.
3- nothing to play for ... Kansas will always win the conference With their Mickey Ds ... Football is almost as bad.
No. If there are people who have this attitude, they're dense.
4- cannot identify with the players and some of their antics.
How so? Athletes are still on campus everyday just like every other student. We can interact with them, they're no different than us.
5- losing critical games and never overcoming the "we didn't play for x minutes".
**** happens, not going to win every game. Support your team.
6- no blowout wins
Now you are trying to hard.
7- the games are too painful to watch (see 6 above).
See answer 6
8- I concession "gouging" prices. Ridiculous.
Eat before or after the game. Boiled hotdogs suck anyways.
9- we beat Iowa ... So who cares.
Iowa is seriously not even in our top 3 for biggest games this year.
10- over selling and hyping the team. Reality bites when the Clones can't win on the road except for the bottom feeders.
This is nothing new. ISU basketball teams have pretty much always sucked on the road. So...
11- getting embarrassed on national tv against WV ... Players played like whimps ... Totally out if the game. Shameful.
Gee, you're right. Should probably give away my tickets cause we played poorly. Season is over.
12- women's basketball is truly dis functional right now. No chemistry and lack of intensity like we've seen in the past.
How does this have anything to do with men's basketball attendance?

I literally laughed out loud at this. You seriously think a reddit game thread matters? Man oh man. Get off your phone and be engaged, you only get so many games to watch in your college career. You can start reddit ******** when you've graduated.
1) I only messed with it during pregame/halftime/time outs. You can trust that I stay off of it when there's actual play going on.
2) I'm sorry that I enjoy reading some commentary while I'm at the game.
3) Don't discredit reddit's community. While I enjoy the CF fanaticism, having some discussion minus the cardinal/gold-tinted lenses is a breath of fresh air.

If 1 is true what I said doesn't apply to you.

I agree with Rabbuk, put the phone down and watch the damn game you nerd, and I also discredit the reddit community. Bunch of geeks who think they know better than everyone else because they're good at using a ****** message board with a terrible interface. reddit is for overused memes and gifs, exaggerated stories that nobody would believe in real life, and bit coin dweebs who think Ron Paul can save the world.

I said in the last thread about this, but the sad truth is that 1230 on a Saturday is like a normal person waking up at 6am with a hangover. Not all of them but a good %.

Spent some time yesterday talking to a former member of the CAC before the game. Discussed a few things like the empty upper deck every game, what the hell the CAC actually "does", and general basketball stuff. For that upper deck, we agreed they either need to take some seats away from the students or they need to change the policy to something like having to pick up your tickets each week. As for what the CAC actually does? Nothing. I've never been a fan of them, but they do even less than they did the past two years (which is saying something). The CAC is merely a group of people who get reserved seating. That's it. Oh and the curly haired blonde girl that we all hold so dearly? Apparently one of the co-chairs is her sister. Nice to see you don't even have to work to get on that thing, just gotta know somebody.

BUT, the Cyclone Alley organization is not the problem. While they don't do anything to fix the problems, they aren't keeping any students from getting into the game. I spent the entire game yesterday yelling and screaming to urge the team on, and was surrounded by many who looked at me as if I was from another planet. Many students today just don't find it cool (or enjoyable I guess) to go to these games and get into it. And I have no idea how to "fix" that. Preaching to the choir on here though. All of the students on this site are the ones at every game and getting into it, just as all of the "old folks" on here are the ones who are the first to stand up, yell, and urge on the crowd around them.

You are something else.

I like the new "3" and miss big Georges.....but I really think Iowa State University of Science and Technology with all our enginerds and architect cardboard-loving design majors could generate the BIGGEST cardboard effigy ever in the history of college basketball.....I still like the bald Bill Self, but too late for that, but something huge with moving parts that spans like 30 rows of the student section and has to be supported by the majority of the kids there would be insane. Floppy Smart would be good, but a waste of effort too for that has-been turd. Biggest Georges would be good....Veishia float comparable.

It's off topic but isn't that an obviously true description of reddit in general?
Sure, if you like stereotypes.

I don't do reddit but I know a lot of people who use it regularly and they don't fit that description at all.

Being on your phone during timeouts is just as bad as being on it during the game play. During timeouts we should still be yelling and screaming and making our opponents life hell. But, when a timeout is called, everyone sits down as one, and all take their phones out. Seriously, people cannot stay off of their phones for more than 10 minutes at a time?

I agree with this, but also realize how addicted the vast majority of early 20somethings are to their smartphones.

You guys are pathetic. Students don't get into it for a couple Big 12 basement dwellers and you feel the need to ******* crucify them? No our student section won't be as intense as all of the blue bloods, we don't have anywhere near the history of them. You guys like to use Kansas and Duke as examples. Their most recent Final 4 appearances are in 2012 and 2010 respectively, ours... 1944. After every game I come on here and win or lose there's 10 threads complaining about something and maybe 1 or 2 positive threads. Get off of your damn high horses. /rant
