Another potential OC hire- Nick Quartaro

I don't want to pee in anyone's cheerios because we all want to curb stomp WVU. But you know d*** well if we do that it all but punches Messingham's time clock for the 13-14 season as our OC. That is if it already hasn't been after the KU game.

We have the next OC on staff in Kleinakas. I doubt he sticks around here if not promoted and wouldnt blame him. Mess needs to go and we need to bring in someone that can develop the QBs which has been the biggest weakness for 5 years and counting.

Messingham seriously is the third highest paid OC in our conference!!? What is his salary? Only asking to see how much it'd take to lure a HC at a lower level school here aka....Mangino

What if he makes no changes but shows drastic improvement? Does CPR still get shown the door?

I'm ok with whatever happens. Still think OLine is the crux of this teams problems offensively.

This. I'd be shocked if Mess is shown the door. Things can turn around in one season look at Iowa, granted we don't play in the little 10, but it can happen.

Once again, who else would we get to coach if CPR is gone? This is going to take some time to get things in order to be competitive on a regular basis. Like McCarney and Ferentz had we will give CPR at least another 3-5 years.

I'd also agree coach K would be the next OC if something is forced to happen.

If CPR doesn't can Mess, he will be canned after next year. He has to make major changes and show drastic improvement or it is his *** next. Our offense has been truly "offensive" since he has arrived here.

I am all for hiring mark mangino.

But this is EXACTLY what Iowa fans said about their offensive coordinator and head coach. 12 months later they are 8-4 and headed to a New Years Day bowl game.

Keep things in perspective. If Rhoads wants Mess, let him stay and support the decison.

Yes, Mess is making $300,000 a year. But adjusting for inflation, by the year 2020 he's only going to be making the equivalent of $17,000 a year. There's your problem. We need the donors here at ISU to step up and give Mess the raise he needs to get the job done. He just doesn't have any incentive right now.

"He" who? Our offense has been offensive since Seneca was a senior.

Apples to oranges IMO. Wasn't last season G. Davis first year? How many years has Mess been on the Rhoads staff?

I wouldn't be shocked to see Messingham stay on staff...just not as OC. I would, however, be shocked if he remained the OC.

Where does CPR put him? Can't really keep him as QB coach since that has been a huge part of the problem. Can't move him back to WR coach unless you move Sturdy to QB coach, but the WR's under performed under Mess, as well. Can't move him to TE coach as you alreay put Bleil there when Coach K came in. No way in hell do we want Mess coaching O-line if you move Klenakis to QB coach/OC.

Over 5 seasons where Mess has been involved with the offense? Even in a year (2011) we had 3 guys that are in the NFL (Osemeli, HIcks and Bykowski) and fourth that probably will with Farniok?
 Stretch the facts much?

You're talking about a year when two of those guys were hurt most of the year, one was a raw, undersized freshman--and the other was playing out of position most of the time he was on the field. Oh, and at least two of those are at best borderline NFL guys.

Besides, just about any offensive line coach will tell you, it's not the best players on your line, but the worst one that determines how good your line is. Just look how horrible the Vikings' guards are, for a prime example.

I guess I didn't stretch anything did I. Did I say they were all pros? How many lines across the country get 4 NFL guys at once? Even if they go into the league at different times, I'd say it is not typical.

People don't want to realize our offense hasn't had a quality QB since Mess took over (ever?) and when you add a banged up OL, starting a walk on at WR and little depth you are not going to succeed. You can bring in Mangino or whoever is on everyone's wish list. You've got to have talent...talent wins. I'm not going to say ISU doesn't have any talent but what talent they do have is not ready to play at a high level.

This is why CPR won't fire Mess. He see's the whole picture. What would firing a guy that your entire staff know's has been dealt a crappy hand do? What message would that send to your staff and future staff? Is Mess a great OC? I don't know...maybe not but I do know for a fact Urban freaking Meyer couldn't score points with the talent ISU trotted out there this year.

U trotted out there this year.

You thinking lifetime contract for Mess then? Or at least as long as CPR is here? If offensive results dont matter, and he isnt accountable for recruiting, how do you evaluate him then?

I don't understand promoting the O line coach when the O line was probably the biggest contributing factor in the ineptitude of the offense.

I appreciate your defense of the current staff and, who knows, you may be right. But I can't buy that our offense hasn't had a quality QB since Mess took over. He has cycled through four QBs and hasn't gotten consistent production out of any of them. He has to own at least a tiny little piece of that, doesn't he? Offensive talent not ready to play at a high level? I saw Bundrage, Wimberly, Jarvis West and Richardson go toe to toe with Texas 4* and 5* guys with my own eyes. Beyond frustrating that we haven't found a way to get the ball into QB's hands multiple times a game. If Rhoads doesn't make changes that's fine with me. But he completely owns the outcome of that decision, good or bad. No excuses accepted this time next year if we are staying home for the holidays again.

Go back and rewatch the Iowa game and see how many times ISU runs up the middle or throws a WR screen against a defense that is good against the run, rolled the safeties up for run support and was in press coverage. Messingham is the definition of clueless on how to attack a defense. That was all I needed to see to know he could be replace by a 12 year old that played football on an X-box. For the life of me, I don't understand why there is anyone defending him. The only reason ISU even scored on Iowa was that they went into the 2 minute drill and started passing down field.
