What Do You Hate About Our State?

Honestly, the biggest thing keeping me in the state is going to ISU games. Truth.

I'll say that its definitely a big thing that keeps me around. I hate winter weather, more and more friends seem to have left the state every day.. the remaining friends and family and ISU games are the biggest things that tie me to iowa.

i figured most people have outgrown the desire to shoot off fireworks by the time they graduate college but apparently not

it just seems like something teenagers or trailer trash are excited to do and complain about it being illegal

-winter weather
-not close to a major body of water

Stupid laws the state\des moines has:
-fireworks law (ok, you dont like the fireworks noise... so cities can ban their use after midnight. Also, how many dollars go to Missouri every year instead of iowa because of this? Plenty obviously still buy).
-des moines having banned ice cream trucks for 50 years or so because one kid got hit by a car after getting one

1. Hawkeye Fans/Trailer courts
2. Weak Beer
3. No using rifles for deer season.
4. Mesquitos
5. Bitter *** cold weather that seems to last from November to April 20th.

But all this aside - I miss living in Iowa (except the Hawkeye fans).

#2 hasn't been applicable in several years. They raised the beer limit to 12% in 2010. You can't get 3.2 beer in Iowa any more.

My main illogical law is open container. As long as the driver is sober, why does it matter if others in the car are drinking? Its not illegal to drive drunk people around, and we allow open containers in vehicles operated for compensation/living quarters of RVs. I don't see the difference between that and regular transportation. If someone is driving over the legal limit, they're still committing OWI and can be handled accordingly.

Agreed with that. It made some sense before we had the ability to quickly run a breathalyzer, but with that available its easy to quickly determine that it is or is not the driver who is drinking that beer.

Also don't like the catchall 'public intoxication' law that doesnt even require actual drunkenness, just the appearance of.

PI is another bad law. It needs to be done away with, and rowdy drunks who need to go to jail should be arrested for disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, etc. It shouldn't be a crime to be intoxicated if you are behaving yourself, which is how most peace officers look at things, but just the fact that it is technically an Iowa code violation allows the few bad apples to take advantage of people.

The only real thing I hate about Iowa is that we are 49th in % of public use land. This makes it more challenging to enjoy your outdoor pursuits, specifically hunting and fishing for me. I'm not saying it can't be done, just not nearly as many options as all of our neighboring states.

Oh, I guess I also hate the price of our ground. It is turning what's left of our natural habitat into a giant garden. I understand farming and business, but I also understand conservation and being good stewards for future generations. my blood boils when I see creek bottoms and fence rows torn up for a couple more rows of corn. I am not anti-farming, but there must be a happy medium. Fire away at me if you disagree, but I will stand my ground.

The University of Iowa Athletics, that stupid Parrot-sqawk logo, the colors black & gold together and T-Shirt (tavern-sqawk) Iowa fans that have no affiliation with the U of I.

Iowa sucks.
