The Tarnished Domers run the BE and don't even play FB there. At least Texas is a football member in the Big XII. It should be an interesting summer.

ND isn't going to stick around in the BE with new members like UCF and SMU coming on board. Look for ND and the non-FB schools (Nova, G'Town, SJU, etc.) to break away and form their own new conference (assuming ND stays indy for FB).

With the latest ongoing conference reshuffling, here is a long column on BYU's current status. Most noteworthy is that the writer confirms BYU has never been extended a B12 invitation:

If I were someone with BYU interests, and knew BYU was offered by Big 12 but blew it messing around...I wouldn't want anyone to know we blew that chance. Because that is shaping out to be a mistake of EPIC proportions if they did anything but jump at Big 12 membership.

Here are what their options should have been in order:

1. Do everything possible to beg for B12 membership.
2. Do everything possible to keep the MWC alive and keep MWC membership down to only the better football schools, try to talk MWC teams out of this Big East bi coastal thing.
3. Independence.

They chose #3 and now their options are to stay independent and have an irrelevant Oct/Nov schedule every year...crawl back to an MWC that is now weaker without BSU, SDSU but including San Jose State and nearby rival Utah State.

Long term these mountain teams would have been better off clinging to each other than chasing dreams of independence glory and a Big East AQ bid that instantly disappeared. Sure they probably still would have still lost Utah and TCU. But BYU/BSU/AFA/Nevada/Fresno State/Hawaii is a lot better football core than those six without BYU/BSU. BSU/SDSU/BYU should have stayed put and got Houston/SMU to replace TCU, with AQs gone, that's far and away the #6 conference and maybe better than ACC.

CUSA promoting all these FCS teams like Charlotte and ODU is just gonna jack things up when the Big East crumbles.

Louisville may yet end up in the Big12 or ACC somehow, but Cincy, USF, SMU, Houston, SDSU, and BSU should all be going to back to CUSA or MWC (basically where they originally came from) when this thing flops.

But now that the CUSA has called up every FCS and SunBelt team they can find and the MWC has merged with the WAC minus Idaho/New Mexico State those conferences would be gigantic if they absorb the failed big east football teams.

It would be nice if they finalized the playoff system before some of those teams started play in their new conferences. Everyone just goes back where they came from, no harm, no foul.

If there's no AQ, it would be nice if the conferences with the most chaos right now (WAC, MWC, C-USA, Sunbelt, Big East) all sat down and tried to figure out logical homes for all their schools, including the FCS/new FB schools who have already committed millions of dollars to start or upgrade their programs.

If ACC would just hurry up and rescue UConn/Rutgers already it could really pan out to everybody having a logical home.

BSU/SDSU/BYU - back to MWC to make that a good conference

SMU/Houston/Memphis/UCF/USF/Cinci -all back to CUSA to make that a good conference...it's where they started more or less

Louisville - B12 or ACC somehow, maybe back to CUSA where they were

Old Dominion, Georgia State, UNC Charlotte - could still be promoted but do it in Sun Belt where it makes more sense

Texas State, UT San Antonio - could still be promoted but do it in WAC or Sun Belt where it makes more sense, WAC stays alive this way without the Utah State, San Jose state movement.

If you dissolve the Big East football portion and slow down on the FCS promotions everybody has a home that equates to where they were 5-10 years ago or a promotion.

Even without that, if we just have the Big 12 take 2 from the ACC and have both conferences call it a day at 12, you could divy up the rest into four 12-team conferences (one 11-team if BYU wants to stay independent) that make some geographic sense. Disband the football conferences and put them out of their misery. If they want to keep thos conferences intact for other sports, let the individual schools work that out amongst themselves.

I don't know that byu staying in the mwc is a better option than independence, you're assuming boise wouldn't have gone to the big east. byu is after exposure, and they are on espn quite a bit, which is really what they're after and the mwc didn't offer a lot before the better football teams left.

I guess what I don't understand is why anyone would want the Big 12 to stay at 10 or only expand to 12 teams. With the changes happening in the BCS with a 4 team playoff system starting in a couple years I think it is going to be a race for the 4 superconferences as well as the possible destruction of both the Big East and ACC as football conferences (if the Big 12 takes FSU and Clemson).

I am very confident in assuming that the Pac 12, Big 10, and SEC all have schools in mind to expand to 16. I think the Big 12 needs to take it up to at least 14 to line up with the SEC by taking FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and one more (Pitt, Maryland, Miami, Georgia Tech all would be good with me).

RT @McMurphyCBS: Stanford's Bob Bowlsby accepts Big 12 commish job Stanford AD Bowlsby to become Big 12 commish - CBSSports

To me, this is a pretty good indication that the higher ups in the conference are confident they are going to pull in Clemson & FSU - with as unstable as the Big 12 was only a year ago, I doubt Bowlsby gives up the best AD job in the country to accept a conference commissioner job unless he is VERY confident that the conference is about to become much more stable than it has been recently.

17 consecutive Director's cups? Holy ****. I'll put aside my hate for all things Iowa here, I think this is a good hire.

I like Bowlsby for the reason that it has to kill a lot of Iowa fans that were absolutely convinced that the Big 12 was going to die and ISU would fade into obsolescence without it. Not only does it look like the Big 12 is stabilizing and possibly expanding with some great schools, but one of their own former ADs is going to lead us there. They must hate that.

Yes please. It would be interesting who our rival would be. Do we get OSU due to tradition of the Big8, or do we get Baylor since we spent so much time with them at the bottom of the football standings. Either way, that would be a nice schedule to give a good chance for bowls most years.

KU
KSU
WVU
FSU
Clemson
Baylor?

If we get this every year plus a rotation of 3 of the remaining 5, I think we'll be just fine.
