No offense, but unless the WVU fan you spoke with was Oliver Luck, it probably is nothing. I mean, I was talking to a KSU fan at a bar last week about the possibility of Clemson and FSU joining the Big XII, but it doesn't mean it's going to happen. I'd like it to happen, and there are rumors out there that both schools are considering moving conferences, but I don't have any inside info that made my drunken ramblings any more true than any other fan.
 
Re-read my post. The WVU fan said that info came from a friend he has in the WVU athletic department. Not exactly like the info coming from Joe Blow fan at the bar who thinks it might happen just because he thinks so.

Figured this would happen once the idea of AQ's went bye bye.

Man, BSU should have just stayed where they were and lobbied BYU to come back. I still think that may happen if/when Big 12 expansion includes neither BSU or BYU and they both realize the strongest 8-10 team mountain conference is their best possible scenario.

BYU, BSU, Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno State, AFA... that's the 5th best conference at the top over the past few years if the best teams in the mountain region would just stay together, not even counting Utah/TCU among them who obviously left for much better deals than non-AQ coast to coast Big East or independent.

The Big East is a real monkey wrench in the whole thing right now. If UConn, Rutgers and possibly Louisville could just get in the ACC or Big 12 already the rest of the Big East could go to either CUSA or MWC where they belong and it becomes a non-football conference. That would leave us with 4 great football conferences then 3 good to average football conferences (ACC has never been a good football conference in the BCS era), then MAC/SunBelt/WAC bringing up the rear.

I think that the chances of getting FSU and Clemson in the Big 12 increase if there is an SOS component in the new playoff selection. They will never get there out of ACC if that is the case.

From the WVU fan's perspective in X-Files terms...THEY WANT TO BELIEVE. I don't blame them.

Clemson and FSU joining means they have found a permanent higher quality home in every single sport. I don't blame them, their boards are full of Clemson/FSU/Louisville/GTech rumors.

The rest of the Big 12 fans think it would be kind of cool to add the FSU brand recognition, think 12 or 14 is more stable, but we're not still on pins and needles that 4-5 of our schools don't have a long term quality home like we were a couple years ago.

In their defense it is starting to make sense. It's all about football and the ACC has been crap football for quite a while. Doing a little musical chairs with UConn and Rutgers moving to the ACC to fill their spots probably makes sense in terms of what the Big 12 and ACC really are.

It's already at least 33% in the BCS formula. Voters take SOS into account at times but not in any logical way.

I'd prefer computers were 50% or 66% of the equation but 33% is enough to insure that playing in a weak conference is not a benefit.

Also the downward swing of the ACC has coincided with the downward swing of FSU so there's not a lot to suggest they even benefit by playing in a bad league.

If any ACC team goes undefeated, they will end up in the Final Four 90% of the time. Even with one loss, their chances are decent.

I wouldn't overstate the SOS concerns of FSU and Clemson, both are much more concerned with staying in the same ballpark on a TV revenue basis with the SEC and other conferences. The B12 membership rumors for both will likely end up helping the ACC get their ESPN contract renegotiated to a desired level and both will likely stay put. Their chances of getting to the FB Final Four are better in the ACC than the B12 if both of them would get their act together on FB. Their issues in recent seasons have been self-inflicted, it hasn't been due to their ACC affiliation. Boise St and TCU certainly have not had their conference affiliations hurt them in recent seasons, both would have made the Final Four at least once in recent seasons.

An undefeated ACC team will make the top 4 barring 3 or more unbeatens from the major 4 football conferences. A one loss ACC team will likely be left out and rightfully so because the league has won only one single BCS game in a dozen years.

FSU has to run the table in the ACC, they get in sometimes as a one loss team in the Big 12. Not saying one loss Big 12 teams are top 4 every time, but they would be top 4 at a ridiculously higher clip than ACC teams will ever be.

So to me the "getting in" is a push. More marquee matchups may tip the scales in the Big 12's favor.
 
ACC hasn't been good since FSU and Miami haven't been elite teams. Virginia Tech is about it for them, and they're not very flashy. They're just like the PAC-12. Unless they go undefeated, their strength of schedule usually sucks.
 
Sounds like the WAC might not survive this. Amazing how it went from the first 16 team conference to being on the death bed.

Sucks to hear about one of the oldest conferences.

Computer are 33%. SOS is a fraction of that 33%. it is probably closer to 15% right now.

I agree that if FSU or Clemson go unbeaten, that they are in, but once they lost, it is over. That would not be the case in the Big 12. Last year OSU vs. Clemson is a good example.
