Exactly what claim would they have to a contract they are not participating in, or being broadcast on?

But under the settlement, A&M will receive its share of NCAA scholarship grants-in-aid, academic support programs and sports sponsorships, as well as officiating fee reimbursement and bowl travel, among other items.

That totals $3.1 million and will take the actual-out-of-pocket settlement to $9.31 million, according to a source familiar with the process.

Big 12 members also are receiving an early bonus payment this season from Fox Sports as part of a cable-TV rights agreement that begins in 2012-13, previously estimated by sources at about $2.5 million per school. While details of that side agreement remain confidential, A&M will receive an undisclosed portion of the Fox bonus.

There is no way that Notre Dame joins the Big 12. I'm sure Texas and Oklahoma would love to see them join as a partial member to set the precident for them doing so in the future, but if any of the ADs and Presidents of other schools support it they should all be fired immediately for stupidity. Allowing partial members would be signing the death warrant for the Big XII.

There are no signs that either Texas or Oklahoma want to go independant for Football. Get it out of your head, they don't want it. Even if they did want it, the Big 12 would not allow it to happen if they are to remain a member of the conference in any capacity. It only happened for ND in the Big East because the Big East was desperate.

Either way, I don't want ND as a partial member either simply because the Big 12 doesn't need them. We don't gain anything by adding them as a basketball member, in fact we would lose our double round robin schedule. We also don't gain all that much by adding them as a football member, honestly. Their name is dying and within the next 10 or 20 years it will be gone completely if they don't turn things around.

I am sad they got out so cheaply.

Only conclusion is this person was negotiating on behalf of the B12:

OU and UT are going to get MUCH better late season matchups as members of the Big 12 than as Independents. Makes little sense for them to do it.

They've both been pretty rational actors throughout realignment too.

First off, tough loss last night, you played Missery even right down to the wire and at their place no less. Second, I saw this this on the WV Scout Board this am:

Re: Big 12 Realignment: A Lot Of Moving Pieces

To everyone, but mostly Kirk and Alanin502,

Updated this morning -- and confirmed from a second, independent source about 30-40 minutes ago as well -- UofL is not in. There is no "secret deal" or "secret invite" for 2013. Never has been. Pure Louisville fiction. There are reasons why UofL won't get an invite, that's all I was told. All efforts are on Clemson, FSU and ND at this point. There is movement behind the scenes, and the silence isn't a bad thing. By the way, there is a HUGE number being floated about by TV folks if the fish can be landed.

UofL is not on deck for any invite and is not happening in 2013... or likely ever. Again, I was told by both sources that there are reasons for this.

Mounty71 is very well respected, former player and apparently "plugged-in" due to his accuracy in the past.........hope he is right.

Most people looking at it tactically would suggest FSU and Clemson as 11 and 12, in order to pry open the ACC for good football additions. ND would remain a possibility to go over 12 when they are "ready" (read forced) to abandon independence somewhere down the road.

We continue to await a decision on how the BCS playoff teams are determined going forward the next 6-8 years. Whatever they decide will affect how and who a conference like the Big 12 approaches expansion targets.

Speculation on these reasons as to why Louisville would not get an invite???

Total speculation, I'd assume they don't bring enough to the table to increase revenues for each member school. At least in my mind, addition for no upward movement seems pointless.

Possibly, but it seems Louisville would bring as much (if not more) than TCU would...

TCU over the last decade has become a much, much larger name brand in the world of CFB than Louisville. TCU also has the benefits of history with the likes of Texas, TT and especially Baylor - there is no history with Louisville to give the school that helpful nudge.

If you could get all three, you take all three. Add BYU to even it out and you have a conference that could garner a TV deal worth upwards of 40 mil per team.

I know others have said it, but I think we need to pass on BYU at this point. We have moved east, so we might as well stay there with expansion.

I THINK that this is probably correct, but it was odd in the way it was stated. No skeletons in the closet, they just don't bring enough money to the table.....and that is what is driving the boat.

I agree. I think a n Carolina would be great. I would take va tech, but I think they are a package deal with va.

They lack the national cache that the two additions of TCU/WVa have. TCU has been a national oddity and reason for interest over the last decade while there isn't a college football fan around that doesn't know about those Slaton/White teams and the rowdy, couch burning WVa faithful.

It's what makes those teams interesting and solid additions. People outside of the B12 footprint will tune into games to watch those teams play. I just don't think Louisville is near that level.

Thanks CYphyllis........it will be a much harder act to keep on-track playing Big XII brethren every week. For those interested in potential conference alignment, go to the url I listed in my first post this am and read the thread. Mounty71 expands what he has been told and answers a few questions. Nice input from other conference mates as well.......and the KU guy Crunch confirms talks with Clemson and FSU also.:v_SPIN:

I have no information to back it up at all, but I think it may be likely that reaching an agreement with the Big East in order to extract WVU from the league may have required an agreement that the Big 12 would not pursue any other Big East teams in the future.

If things with UL have "cooled in the last two weeks" we'd be in the time frame immediately following WVU's announced exit from the Big East.

Marinatto knew UL was on the radar, and would be an obvious add in the future, so in the interest of the Big East he would take steps to avoid that defection. I can see Tom Jurich wanting to stay in a basketball focused league instead of being in the deep end of the pool with the rest of the Big 12, despite what many Louisville fans want. And we know Pitino would be on board with returning to the Big East as well.

Just seems to make sense to me, anyway.
