I started the thread right about tip-off.
It was probably a little knee jerk, but I was really, really surprised how bad the student turnout was. The rest of the arena should have been better, but it was much better than the student section.

There were 1,000 unsold general public seats tonight (announced attendance was 13,587). Probably another thousand or two no-shows.
The whole fanbase has room to improve attendance-wise. But it's not like taking away student seating and giving it to the general public will solve anything when there are thousands of empty seats outside the student section as well.
We're going to average over 13,000 in paid attendance this year, yet we haven't been to the tournament in how many years? People need to quit whining and give the casual fans some time to jump back on the bandwagon.

And I know the you started the thread about tip-off.... However I've known since about Saturday or maybe even the home game before that, this thread would be here. It's old, move on.
Our football team didnt exactly go from nothing to something just this year.
And even though their last 'success' was about the same time (05) it feels like its been longer for basketball, probably because we were so bad most other years where it wasnt quite so bad in football. Feels like we've been down for a decade in basketball.
Exactly, I tried to move down at halftime with many open seats that was supposed to be a sold out game, and I was told to leave...........because those seats were spoken for

We start winning and all of a sudden LOTS of people jump on the bandwagon. The overall balcony hasn't been great except for big 12 play.
Good lord, the team is winning and we are complaining?! WOW
People on the internet always find something to complain about... I just can't believe the students are getting chewed out when the entire place was dead. The older people have adjusted to this climate of failure also. They are the ones who actually make it loud when they stand up. Its hard to be excited when all they do is sit there and groan at mistakes.
I have been a big backer of the students, being a student myself, but tonight was bad.
Overall excitement in the arena was poor, and attendance was poor as well.
Cyclone Alley should take some blame, but a lot of blame is just on the students. There isn't a whole lot of excitement about basketball. I have been waiting for this season for a long time, waiting for the student section to just explode with excitement. It has been good at times, and poor these last few games. Hopefully everybody gets there and gets up for one last hurrah against Baylor.

Obviously many students havent been coming to games...So I have a challenge for EVERYONE! Especially those really frustrated with student attendance.
Most likely all of you know students at ISU. So text them, call them, email them, get a hold of them somehow before the Baylor game and see if they have tickets, if they do, remind them of the game...tell them to GO!
If they say they are busy, tell them to sell their ticket to someone in their dorm, or simply put it on facebook that they are selling a ticket.

Isn't this the same reason people have for re-entry for football games, but thee same people in this thread say they don't care what it looks like on TV because it is there ticket and they will do what they want with it. Everybody gives reasons that they want to do this or that during that time, but it sounds like students aren't allowed to have lives outside of ISU sports. We should just sleep and have class inside Hilton so the reason we are in Ames doesn't get in the way of supporting the Cyclones.
PS: My roommate and I have both been to or had somebody take our place for every men's or women's games and I can say that I noticed tons of empty seats tonight by non-student sections.
Has anyone brought up the fact that TTech is the worst team in the league and we were basically expected to win by 20 without trying? I know at least two people who didn't go because they were doing homework and this is a week where students have exams. I have one Friday. Fortunately I have time to study tomorrow.
I'm surprised the lower half isn't full but give it a rest, we just got to 20 wins. ******** after every game won't help anything at all. Especially ******** at the students who were there and do a good job, standing the entire game.
The people who are on the fringe of attending like to see numbers next to opponents' names. The baylor game will be full. People will see it is the last game and that we are playing a top 10 team and they will come to the game. Texas Tech is not a draw for the fringe fan.

Then you have nothing to fear. People are demanding students with tickets either get to the game, or get their ticket to someone who can and will (which you apparently do).
not going to waste my time reading the previous 13 pages so sorry if i repeat what someone already said but wow that was a TURRRRRRRIBLE turnout for the students. yowza. we get it. tech is bad, but jeezus... the support for a .500 football team is through the roof but there is nowhere near that amount of support for a basketball team that is tied for third in the big 12. thats just pitiful. doesnt make any sense to me.
You are preaching to the choir if you are trying to get students to go to the games by writing on here. All the students who do write here (like myself) are there every game.
I agree that they should get rid of the upper balcony or at least shrink the student section. Even the Kansas game was only half full in the upper balcony.

I was talking with some people in CA and most said they wouldn't care about getting rid of the upper deck as long as there was somewhere that didn't require CA shirts.
Not picking on you particularly, but standing does not make the environment much, its mostly about the noise. I have always wondered how people that stand, but don't yell, somehow think they are doing a lot more to help the environment than someone who sits and yells.
I too have a **** load of homework. However, I used the 2 1/2 hours to attend the game as a break from the homework.
I'm right there with you. I have a big test tomorrow as well as another one on friday but took the time to be able to make it to the game.
I agree, but there is no question that the student section is at least twice as involved in the game as the rest of the fans. The only time the other sections stand is during huge runs and the fight song during timeouts. I don't think there is a whole lot of energy from someone who is sitting down for the most part. There are some fans who might shout at players or refs while sitting, but the trend in general has to be that people who stand are louder. Just my opinion.
