IMO, I wouldn't want to go to the Pac-1x. Logistic nightmare. C-USA is not even an option as ISU would never settle for it. ISU would be in the Big East at minimum and the value of the Big East package would increase dramatically because of the vacuum created by a Big 12 Collapse.
ISU, and others just need to hold the line and sue the hell out of OU and OSU and aTm and Texas or anyone else who leaves the conference. Each of those schools paying $3 million or more to every conference team they left for 10 to 15 years. ISU would get $12 million or so annually from those 4 schools. A Commitment and agreement was made last April. It needs to be honored.
And it is pretty ridiculous that OU would be claiming that the instability of the Big 12 is their reason for leaving. The announcement by OU that they were considering leaving is what caused the new round of instability. Otherwise it was a foregone conclusion that the Big 12 was considering adding 1 to 3 teams. Interesting also that teams like OU, aTm, and Nebraska cite the revenue differences as a factor and say they are now want to be in conferences that share revenue equally. But those same schools were the ones that continually voted for unequal revenue sharing. Amazing now that they come to the conclusion that equal revenue sharing is now good when they have constantly opposed it before.
I don't disagree with a lot of your sentiments. I absolutely agree that CUSA is only an option if everything else totally went to **** - and I am 100% certain the **** doesn't hit that fan.
Obviously I would rather the Big 12 holds together. However, short of talking about BYU and/or other schools joining conference, there just isn't much to speculate about. Not to mention the death of the Big 12 is a very real possibility at this point.
Now, assuming the Big 12's demise, while I think the Big East is an acceptable option for ISU, in no way, IMO, should it be ISU's number 1 option. If ISU were somehow able to hitch to OU's coattail and ride it to the Pac 1X, why shouldn't they? Most people are okay with joining the MWC as a worst case scenario. I'd argue that the logistics of the MWC are even worse than the Pac 1X because with Pac at least most of their schools are in or closer to major cities - much easier to get to. Most of the MWC schools are in smaller cities that would be much harder and cost mire to get to. Not to mention, for roughly the same geographical footprint, ISU would be making a hell of a lot more money in the Pac 1X than they would in the MWC.
Granted, I don't think the odds of getting into the Pac 1X are very good at all. I'm just saying that if ISU were holding offers from both the Big East and the Pac 1X, they clearly need to go west. Yes, both are BCS conferences. However, the Pac 1X will have stability going for it, while the Big East is just waiting for the B1G, SEC, and ACC all to go to 16. While I'm sure ISU would end up in the B1G or some incarnation of the ACC, if you can put the latter to rest permanently via the Pac 1X, do so.
