Speculation that Osama Bin Laden killed

I just have a hard time believing that alot of these kids felt so patriotic that they had to express their emotions in a public display. College kids love to demonstrate, riot, chant, cheer, drink, etc. I think more than anything it gave kids an opportunity to do those things. Not to say they weren't excited about Bin Laden being killed, but I doubt they were so overcome with emotion they needed to grab a 12 pack, chant, cheer, light dumpsters on fire, etc. In doing so, I think their reaction looked eerily similar to what a large, Middle Eastern city would look like if one of our leaders was killed.

This. Dumpster fires and burning couches don't reek of patriotism. It's a sign of a party gone out of control.

MSNBC just said Osama was shot in the left eye. ABC has been saying he was double tapped(shot twice in the head) as well. Picture, if released, could be pretty gruesome.

I don't care how gruesome the photo is I want to see a picture of that *******'s body.

True, but it was patriotism that fueled it, instead of alcohol and booze. So at least we got that going for us, which is nice (Caddyshack anyone?).

You're right, but waving the American flag and singing the national anthem sure as hell do. I'm sure there were a few people who were just out there because of the "mob mentality", but don't try and denigrate a group of student's patriotism just because it doesn't align with your particular views.

This didn't occur on a Friday night with a bunch of drunk idiots at a house party. This occurred (at ISU at least) late on a Sunday night before the beginning of finals week.

I'm personally saddened by this news. I know 9/11 was a great tragedy, but this killing of Bin Laden will not help anything. We are now on higher alert for a retaliation. You cannot stop violence with more violence. This will only instigate terrorists more, and we can expect them to retaliate soon, and we will have another tragic event. Fight violence with over-the-top love and peace.
You have got to be kidding me. This man took how many lives? Why don't you walk up to the soldiers that fight for their lives every day so you can post on here and tell them this. Then while you're at it why don't you go tell this to one of the thousands of families who lost family members to this SOB.

I guess you weren't there then. Wherever there were dumpster fires or couches they were probably out of control, but if you were there you would have realized how patriotic the demonstrations really were.

Bingo

This was NOT a party that got out of control. Unless you were there, you really can't say what this was or wasn't. There was a dumpster that got lit on fire, that means one group of 2 or three people decided to be stupid and do that. That is not surprising to me in a crowd of that size. But like I said this wasn't a party that got out of control at all, this was a gathering fueled by Patriotism! And to say that we were to young to understand it is not a fact. I'm a freshman this year, I was 10 when it happened, and I still remember everything about that day. This was not an angry mob this was not a riot, and unless you were there I don't think you can accurately say something about what it is or isn't. (not that most people won't)

My question remains: if you put side by side images of Ames (or any other demonstration at a college town) last night and an image of a major Middle Easten city celebrating the death or some type of violent conflict of some cause they find justified-- would you notice a difference?

More white people probably. In Ames that is.

As difficult as it is, I always preach love and forgiveness. I am not going to talk bad about the military or protest against them, but I never asked anyone to go kill people for my freedom. My freedom is not worth the price of another person's life.

Difference...they've had probably 30000 demonstrations over the last 10 yrs chanting death to America. We've had one.

Dude....or dudette, I suppose.......they want to kill us. If they have it within their capabilities to do so, they will. They don't need a special occasion.

That sounds great, until some terrorist gets ahold of you and decapitates you and posts it on the internet.

Well I didn't see any burning flags, guns or propaganda. I did see a bunch of singing, chanting, smiling, happy people that seemed to be enjoying themselves. I'm fairly certain I could have been able to tell a difference between the two, but in that respect I am also able to tie my own shoes and use a toaster effectively so maybe that puts me at an advantage over some.
