Hlas prediction for Stanzi

2 problems with this thread-the 1st is that the op wanted this thread marked down for later comparison which is exactly what has happened, we don't like the results as clone fans, so we rip hawk fans that bring the thread back to the frontpage-if it was in our favor and we brought it back up, everyone would love seeing it again.

2nd is that the hawk fans actually took the time to come on here and find the thread and bring it back to the frontpage, as if to try and rub our faces in something. congrats. you guys have an excellent team-probably one of the better ones you will ever have. just enjoy it, and stop trying to force feed your success onto us. we get it-you think you're better then us because you chose to chear for the hawkeyes-i got news for you-you're not.

we don't care to hear about it from you on OUR message board. we have to see it all over every news publication in the state already.

I won't deny that the Big Ten schedule will be much tougher on him. But it's hard to deny he's a much improved QB this season.

what was his stats last year in non-con? can you at least provide some facts to support your opinion?

Sure thing Keep:

2009 OOC: 78 of 126 (61.9%, 12 yards per completion) 8 TD, 5 INT - 940 yards QB rating of 140.15
2010 OOC: 66 of 99 (66.7%, 15 yards per completion)) 9 TD, 1 INT - 999 yards QB rating of 179.4

Stanzi is also ranked #4 in QB rating, 18th in total yards, 10th in total TDs, and 2nd in fewest interceptions for fulltime starting QBs.

Stanzi seems to have improved, but I think he's also made a couple throws this year that perhaps in an attempt to make it tougher to intercept, also have made them a tad harder to catch.

Also, personally, his one pick (which was unfortunately a pick 6) was as much on McNutt as it was on Stanzi. But a pick's a pick, and that was a serious one.

The stats are skewed by playing three home games against awful teams.

you can come on here and talk about how great stanzi is when he puts up numbers against real competition. the one quality opponent Iowa has played this year (arizona), stanzi didn't look so good.

By some hawk fans I am pretty sure I can find some that called 0-11 and some that called 11-0. Hell, I bet I could find some that were calling for another great return to the Peach Bowl. (and I know just which bar in Walford to look in)

As for the article you have a biased newspaper pandering to the local crowd in order to keep enough subscriptions to hold on to their crappy building for one more year until the Cedar Rapids City Council gives them a sweet buyout deal for the library space. That and Hlas has a hard-on for his plauge in Kinnick. But hey, you keep on believing everything you read from the great and mighty Gazette/KCRG.
While I agree with almost everything you've said, I should point out it has been pretty prominent in the news lately the library is not relocating to the former Gazette building.

I'm not spouting off about how great he is. Keep asked for stats from Stanzi's OOC games, so I provided them.

I'm just pointing out that he's on his way to reaching Hlas's prediction, and all of the sudden, it's not as ******** as some people thought it was.

And, for the record, Stanzi was still 18-33 at AZ, with 278 yds and 3/1 TD/INT for a 149 QB rating. Not HORRIBLE by any stretch.

better QB play this year out of Stanzi no doubt.. helped in part by a better WRs. Case closed.

not talking stats, just saying he looked bad in the AZ game. maybe it had something to do with all the sacks that makes me think that. he just didn't look near as sharp as against ball st or ISU.

by the end of conference pay, I think stanzi will be what he has been over time: a serviceable QB with good receivers. nothing special, but does his job in that offense well. I think there are probably 30 other QB's in the country that could easily have identical if not better numbers under center at Iowa.

I will also add that the coaching staff has done a good job of adjusting their play calling for Stanzi. Calling routes he is able to complete, it seemed last year they forced more over the middle and long ... maybe I am off base, but the offensive calling looks more like 2002 with Banks and playing to his strengths than of last year.

That, IMO, has drastically helped Stanzi ..... and credit to him for executing.

A 3-year starter with the best group of skill position players Iowa's seen in a long time. They go 3-deep at RB and DJK, McNutt Davis are the best trio of WRs Iowa's EVER had.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all.

Because you're on crack! :jimlad:

Somebody was going to say it.

Agree. Stanzi isn't that much different of a QB, the WRs and better playcalling have a huge roll in his improvement. That being said, if his numbers stay improved throughout the year, he's got the size to make an NFL team in some capacity next year... which is pretty cool if you think about how he got to where he is right now.
