Prediction Thread

So you're saying you don't know anything about NCAA football?

Who has NIU beat in the last 5 years? Name the marquee win that puts them in the even close to respectable category?

The only win of any measure AT ALL was Purdue last year. That is it. The followed that brilliant win up with losses to Idaho, Toledo, and Ohio.

So you can't think of a single game he has lost? That is what I thought.

My God you are dense. Stanzi has put Iowa in a position to lose on more than one occasion and his teammates have bailed him out. If you can't admit that then you are only kidding yourself.

Again, I'm talking about next's weeks game. Not Iowa's win loss pct. over the last two years. Can you honestly say that if Stanzi pulls a "Stanzi" and throws three picks next week you won't be concerned?

Lay that one on the horrible play call in the end zone by O'Keefe.
Well, you said to name one...
Look, in regards to last year, there was no excuse for a loss at home to Northwestern, just like there was no excuse for such a lousy performance against Indiana. It’s not like the Hawkeyes were playing the world-beaters, and it’s not like the game was over after locking Ricky Stanzi to his ankle injury. Of course not having the leader and No. 1 quarterback matters, but 1) Iowa was still winning when he got knocked out, 2) Northwestern also lost its starter, and 3) IT … WAS … NORTHWESTERN.

This is a team that sputters and coughed against Eastern Michigan, one of the five worst teams in college football, and this is a team that can’t score without it being wrapped in a nice gift-basket. If Iowa really was a national title-caliber team, it would’ve pounded away on the mediocre Wildcat D and come up with a point over the final 50 minutes. Pat Angerer and Jeremiha Hunter did their part, combining for 27 tackles, but the offensive line that did such a great job against Indiana struggle to get the running game going and James Vandenberg was miserable in place of Stanzi. And that’s it. That’s the difference between an all-timer of a season and being among the mere mortals. Again, though, Iowa better be playing some heads-up ball this Saturday, or things could get ugly.

Purdue= bottom half of the big 10. I would also take NIU over Indiana, Illinois and probably Minnesota. They played Wisconsin very tough at Camp Randal last year and were not a pushover that last two times Iowa played them. Again, I'm not saying they are a marquee squad...but they have some good players and a good coach. I would put NIU in the "pineapple upside-down cake" category.

Purdue beat Ohio State last year.

NIU is a CUPCAKE. Period.

Thank You! Some Iowa fans act like Stanzi could throw five INTs a game and they would still win. Fact is Iowa was DAMN lucky to win many of the games they did last year and should hope that Stanzi takes better care of the ball. Turnovers are the great equalizer; no matter how good the rest of the team is there is no way the go undefeated if Stanzi doesn't significantly up his game this year.

Wait...all of a sudden Purdue is really good? So that means the Huskies are even better then I thought!

In fact if Purdue beat Ohio State who then beat Iowa...your logic would indicate that NIU was better than Iowa last year. Good things the hawks didn't have to play the mighty Huskies.

Now this might be the most ridiculous prediction I've ever seen....in order for this to come to pass....ISU would have to score more points in one game than they have in FOUR YEARS against Iowa.

Iowa State has a chance IF they can hold Iowa under 21....which, IMO, will only happen if Iowa is -2 or worse in the TO margin. ISU won't be scoring more than 21 points on Saturday.

I'm sorry, a team that has been to four bowl games in six years and is predicted to go undefeated in their conference is a cupcake? :biglaugh: Sure it isn't Alabama but Christ's sake NIU would could probably beat up the bottom half of the Big Ten.

I sense deja-vu-all-over-again. Just replace 'NIU' with 'Northwestern' right after the loss in MBB last year. Northwestern was supposed to be some awesome new Big Ten powerhouse bound for the Elite Eight for sure.

We'll see how well NIU ends up doing this year...

I don't get it. Why does Iowa think they'll demolish our run game? They have the same front four with some new linebackers. We have most of the same o-line, and the same running back from last year. Before, for whatever reason, we started just tossing it up in last year's game, we were having our way with Iowa's defense by running the ball. How has that changed?

As for this year, Spann is a man-child and was running over us. When they brought in their change-of-pace back, we had no trouble stopping him. If I remember, Hampton was the change-of-pace back when Greene needed a breather. Obviously, Hampton is better than NIU's second string back, but our smallish, faster defense is better with the speedier backs than with the bruisers.

I'm not saying we're going to win, but I just can't figure out were the Hawk fans feel the run game will be this way. This game will be determined by the passing game of BOTH teams.

I'm hoping the Clones improve mightily from week 1 to 2, and that Sims is ready to play well. I'll stand by my prediction of 16-14 ISU winning from the other thread. If we're going to pull an upset this year, I'm hoping it's this one.
Give me Texas, Iowa is nothing nationally compared to Texas.

Prediction: Neither Clayborn or Stanzi make it to the second half. If Clayborn thinks EIU was gunning for him, wait till Saturday after his smart *** comments this summer, he will get knocked out by someone, maybe even Arnuad lowering the boom on him. Stanzi still wont be the same on his knee, for some reason he can not play on that field turf and if watched him in the second half Saturday he could not plant his foot in the ground.

For the Hawk fans talking about Jewell Hampton, can the guy play a game first, he has not stepped on the field in a year and half and has not been hit by anyone outside his own scout team. He had a serious knee injury! We will we what happens the first time ISU tackles him at his knee.

Defensive player of the game, David Sims, he will be locked in for his first game of the season.

Offensive player of the game, Colin Franklin, they have no that can stop this guy.
ISU wins 17-14.

If AA does not turn it over once we are in it at the end. Unfortunately, I'm putting his over/under at two which will simply not get it done.

Iowa 27 ISU 10
