Need votes for daughter's online poll

Hello, Cyclone family. My daughter is part of an online poll for a local photography company. I'm not ashamed to ask my internet friends to help her out.

If you click on the link below, she's #11. Right now she's in the top 10 and I'm hoping that with your help she can continue to climb the rankings. You can vote once per day per IP address.

I know how Cyclones can dominate an online poll like no other and I'm hoping this will be the same. If it helps, she likes the Cyclones better than my wife's KSU purple kitties. Thanks!!!

Glowing red light in Ames neighborhood

The other day my wife was in the backyard and say this red glowing light coming from our neighbor's house. This neighbor lives behind and southwest of us and has a big 4 section bay window with the shades open (hence how easy it was to see the glowing red light). Our neighbor is far from being an exhibitionist as the only heads she turns is when you see her and want to throw up.

So this morning I was out watering our garden, when low and behold, there she was in all her glory with no clothes on just those little glasses you put on if you were on a tanning bed with this, looking like Ms Satan. There are somethings in life that you will never ever forget and this is one of those!! I've have no idea what the hell she is going but if she is trying to get rid of her ugliness, it's going to take more than a red glowing light on her naked body.

Any idea what she is doing with this type of light. It's not like she has it on for more than 5-10 minutes? There is now freaking way I am going to approach her about it either. My wife and I were just wondering what she is doing.

World’s largest steam locomotive trekking across Iowa,

. . . Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and back through Iowa the next couple of weeks. It is the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad.

Big Boy was built in 1941 and was just recently restored. It is the only one still operational. A few years ago Union Pacific purchased it from a museum in California to restore.

From the Omaha World-Herald:

Today’s Des Moines Register has tentatively scheduled Iowa stops and the route across these states

Flooding in south central Nebraska just recently caused a delay.

You can see pictures in an editorial and article in today’s Omaha World-Herald, along with more detail

. . . Big Boy No. 4014 is impressive in many ways. It’s a massive creation weighing 1.2 million pounds and, if stood on its end, would be the equivalent of a 13-story building. U.P. bought the engine in 1941 and eventually had 25 such titanic freight haulers. The engines — so great in length that they needed to be hinged to accommodate curves — proved invaluable during World War II in moving massive amounts of materials for the war effort.

These old-time steam engines were remarkable in their complexity, requiring expert operation and maintenance. William L. Withuhn, the longtime curator of transportation for the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History, once observed:

“A steam locomotive is like a rolling lit bomb. You have 200 pounds per square inch of pressure in the boiler, and if it goes up, the explosion can send the locomotive 300 yards down the track. You have this huge momentum — 1,000 tons behind you. You have to be ahead of it at all times. You need to know all the changes in grade and the curves and rail crossings. … Running a crack train at 90 miles an hour meant you had to think three miles ahead. These were people who never finished grade school, some of them, and they had many of the same skills and responsibilities as the captain of a 747 jet.”

The diesel era in the 1950s spelled the end of regular steam engine use, and U.P. retired Big Boy in 1961. . . .

Chris Klieman's Challenge

With Matt Campbell and all of Cyclone football being roses, I thought Iowa State fans might enjoy reviewing the status of an old rival.

Chris Klieman must be either stupid or have the biggest balls in all of college football. He left a national championship team to take the reigns of a team picked to finish 9th in the Big 12. The only bright spots at K-State are the return of a fairly large and somewhat talented senior class along with an experienced junior quarterback.

Bill Snyder left Klieman some huge holes to fill in the roster. There are 0 running backs on the squad that have had a single carry in the Big 12. No back-up quarterback has taken a single college snap. There is absolutely no depth along the offensive line, at tight end, at fullback, or at linebacker. The best linebacker tore up a knee in the spring and is out for the season. The fastest and most talented wide receivers have been booted from the team because they were not good citizens.

To make Klieman's challenge even larger, the outlook for the 2020 season is even bleaker. Kansas State has a total of 17 scholarship sophomore and juniors on the squad for the 2019 season. Snyder's recruiting was not real good and the retention rate was extremely low. K-State will no doubt have the youngest team in the Big 12 in 2020.

So, you tell me, is Chris Klieman stupid or does he have the biggest balls in all of college football?

Minnesota Golf Courses - Best Bang for Your Buck

I am a big golf fan, and have played a good amount of the courses around the 20-30 minute radius around the Twin Cities. But I am regularly running into completely booked up courses (for the mornings) and it's getting a bit annoying.

To my Minnesota residents (or non residents who have played) what are some of your favorite courses a bit of a ways outside the city? I'm happy to drive up to 45 minutes probably with no question.

Some of my favorites I've played the past couple years that are in this range.

Legends Club - Prior Lake
Loggers Trail - Stillwater
Rush Creek - Maple Grove

Price isn't too much of a worry, but I'd rather not spend close to $100 for a course that can be hit or miss, or is not as good as advertised. And of course I'm always a fan of any places that have a cheap rate that are a diamond in the rough. Any recommendations are helpful!
