Big10 AD's Transfer Proposal

Saw where Big10 AD's are proposing transfers be eligible immediately.

IMO the NCAA has created this situation by their arbitrary handling of transfer requests. But I don't think the Big10 AD's proposal is a good idea and basically creates unrestricted "free agency". I also feel it values the kid for their athletic ability ONLY.

With so many behind the scene hangers on (family, handlers, etc.), it creates a situation where elite programs will be able to recruit other college players. I think it would only be natural to see the NBA mentality of super teams happen in college sports. It also make conferences like the MVC, MAC, A10 the minor leagues for P5 conferences.

I am for loosening the rules, but I think there needs to be an academic element. I would propose:
  1. Give student athletes 5 years of playing time. Eliminate redshirts.
  2. I would require all transfers within the first 2 years of entering college to still have to sit a year.
  3. After the first 2 years a player can transfer and be eligible to play immediately. But I would include an academic progress component as well. Academic progress would be credit and GPA based on years in school. If a kid doesn't meet academic progress requirements they have to sit.
This would apply to all sports- Olympic and Revenue. No exceptions for family situations.

The Cyclones are 5-10 all-time against WVU and 2-5 on the road against the Mountaineers.

Where: WVU Coliseum - Morgantown, West Virginia

Not sure the notice of Rae Johnson starting is correct. I thought she was out a minimum of these two road games. Will find out at gametime I guess but thinking Thurmon likely starts.

Might be a tough go today with our short bench.

Pedestrian Bridge

I knew the Athletic Department was planning a pedestrian bridge over University Boulevard, but I had no idea the bridge would extend all the way to the stadium's east concourse. That will be really nice for both the pedestrians and the cars!

This will be presented at the February Board of Regents Meeting:

Stadium gateway bridge

Athletics department officials will present to the board's property and facilities committee a request to begin planning a pedestrian bridge over University Boulevard east of Jack Trice Stadium. The project would include an elevated walkway all the way to the stadium's east concourse to create a safer pedestrian route between the stadium and parking, and enhance the south entry to campus. Its estimated cost, $8-12 million, would be funded with athletics department operating funds and private gifts.

Hinterland 2020 SPECULATION THREAD

Typically the lineup gets announced the first week of February, so the 2020 edition should be out soon. Got any predictions/wish lists of who might play this year?

- There are no tour dates listed for Alabama Shakes but I'd settle for just Brittany Howard in support of her solo album.
- Neil Young - Sam Summers' white whale
- Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real
- Black Keys - dream big!
- Blind Pilot
- Leon Bridges
-Mipso
-Wild Rivers
- Birds of Chicago
- Michael Kiwanuka
- Peter Mulvey

I'd also be pretty happy for some alums to come back through - Gary Clark Jr or Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats would both be excellent headliners. And after the show St. Paul and the Broken Bones put on last year they ought to have a standing invitation.

Friday OT - Dear Abby

Please share your questions to the "Dear CF" advice column. PLEASE KEEP IT PG, but otherwise - have at it. Perhaps we can take turns give each other advice, IDK, I haven't really fleshed this idea out.

Dear CF,

My 5-year-old will only eat "white toast with white butter" (ergo, toast racist) and won't wear pink, purple, or any clothing he deems "girly" (clothes misogynist). To where should we move to help prevent him from growing up to be a member of the food KKK or a cereal killer? Thanks in advance.

Penn State vs Iowa Dual

Not really sure which thread this should go under, but I'll leave it here for now.

Think this is going to be a exciting dual that Iowa ends up dominating in the team score. Rumors are swirling that Eierman is going to go, which makes Iowa that much tougher to beat this year. I hate to say it, but they have an absolutely stacked lineup. Ranking the matchups for tonight from most excited to watch to least:

165
141 (assuming Eierman is in fact wrestling)
174
184
133
Hwt
157 (this goes up the list if Berge wrestles)
197
125 (Lee will tech his guy, but he is always fun to watch)
149 (both guys wrestle pretty boring styles. I see a 3-2 type match)

At the end of the day, I think Iowa wins pretty comfortably, like 24-12 or so, but the individual matches will be great previews for NCAAs

Notable Posts: January '20

This year, I’ve redefined the monthly feature from “Posts of the Month” to “Notable Posts." It isn't possible to see all the best comments, and even a lot of good ones I don't get around to documenting.

As is customary, anything good I missed, add it to the thread.If you encounter an especially amusing comment, feel free to PM me.

Here we go. Some posts edited for brevity or clarity.

From “Instant Reaction Podcast” (regarding FAU game):
@jpete24: Not condoning the loss, but this, too, shall pass.
@woodm07: So did dinner.
jpete24: That was quick. What did you eat? Rattler?

From “ISU-KU game day thread”
@atlantacyclone: Just curious, have we ever been down 20 to KU at the half?
@demoncore1031: Yes. We are down 20 to KU at the half right now.

From “ISU vs. OU game day thread” (Jan. 11)
@Cyched: Most fun I’ve had at an ISU game this decade.

From “FOT: Losing My Religion”

@dosry5: I didn’t know we’d be graded on spelling.

@dirtyninety: First, this board…

@Dingus: I spent 4 hours at a city council meeting the other day to have them... table the issue for another day. First guy to get up to comment was a disheveled bearded man with a T shirt with a message spelled out in electrical tape wearing a dress that appeared to be a curtain. And I thought “Yep, that pretty much nails it.”

A lot of good posts came from the mailbags this time. Here’s a sample

@Cy$ : Ask us questions. I'd be glad to talk about my ankle injury and my tetris championship preparations.
@Angie: Did you hurt your ankle playing Tetris?

@SCyclone: As Iowa State's athletic director, you have to hire a basketball coach. You have two choices - Steve Alford, or Fran McCaffery. Who do you hire?
@CoKane: I’d answer it with a bullet through my skull.

@BCClone: If you were to become an animal, what would you choose?
@Angie: A gloster canary. They look magnificent. And everyone would take me seriously. Like a member of the early-era Beatles.

And my personal favorite:
From mailbag (week of 1-29)
@coolerifyoudid: Will @cyclones500 get his question in before the deadline?
@cyrocksmypants: God, I hope not.
