You always have to love home cooking and the Hilton served up some for the Cowpokes. This was not an easy win in any way, shape or form and had some really ugly aspects to it. The first quarter saw both teams feeling each other out. OSU was bolstered by the return of Mack who score the team's first 7 points. ISU meanwhile was slowly inching ahead and answered everything OSU could put up. Every time OSU would creep within five or so points someone stepped up and hit a big shot and would expand the lead once more. This was very much a team game for ISU as different players all contributed across the board. The biggest draw from this game is realizing that like KU, OSU is not a very good shooting team. If it didn't go inside, it likely wasn't going in the basket. So, that is what OSU did all game long was use speed and size to pound inside. Fortunately, the ISU defense did just enough to stave off any serious comebacks and OSU helped by taking some ill advised outside shots that nearly bent the rim they were so off. The first half was just solid for the sisters. Good shooting, good defense, and most of all good rebounding. This resulted in a nice half time lead of 11 points and the rest was just hanging on.

The second half statistically was a dead heat. It shouldn't have even been close. The ladies were shooting pretty well and still playing defense/rebounding, but lordy it got ugly in the fourth quarter. I've never seen so many unforced turnovers in a game in quite some time. None of our point guards were immune, but Maggie seemed to find multiple ways to give the ball back to OSU which led to some easy transition buckets and ame the game closer than it should have been. Bad passes, lack of focus, etc. all led to turnovers which totaled 21 for the game. More gray hair for the coaching staff.

I think from a coaching perspective, leaving Maggie out there was a good learning experience. Fen finally rescued/relieved her by bringing Rae in. Her physicality slowed down OSU and she picked up some key charging calls that forced turnovers on OSU as well. In the end it was a workmanlike victory as the ladies seemed to have answers for everything OSU had to offer.

One other area for gray hair growing is free throws. Yes, you knew I'd get there didn't you? What has happened lately to this team? Missing ten free throws and hitting only 63% is inexcusable for an ISU squad. This is another reason the game shouldn't have been close. Joens is one of the top (was) free throw shooters in the conference and in the past three games she's gone 14-25 from the line or 56%. Something is very wrong there. Fatigue? She doesn't show it on the court.

Observations:
Maggie gets the Jekyll/Hyde award for the game. She scored key baskets, made free throws, played lots of minutes, BUT she personally accounted for FOURTEEN turnovers. Is that an ISU record for one person? Is that a record for remaining in a game under Fennelly while making those mistakes?

Joens. She reminds me of Seanna Johnson from a few years ago. A person could just keep writing the same things each game and be right. Joens grinds and powers her way to double digit points and rebounds nearly every game. 23 and 14 for this one. Only blemish was her free throw shooting.

Scott. She's back folks. Playing at a consistently high level now. I caught myself wondering whether it would be she or Joens who gets knocked to the second team all conference this year. I'm guessing it will be Scott. Her all around game is in fine form right now.

Camber - not the best game offensively, but those 7 boards were huge. When you aren't scoring you show up in other places and she does. Very solid defensively.

Posts - they are dividing up the minutes between Kane, Nez and Scott. Scott gets the bulk and the other two play when needed.

Wise - still working her way back and getting key minutes. Up to about 12 this time. Still not scoring, but she does other things. Would just like to see her start to find the hoop.

Another big game this Saturday. OU is coming to town and this is a revenge game in a way. Never should have lost down there. Let's hope we are firing on all cylinders and leave the weekend in 4th place in the conference and working our way into the tournament talk again. See you all there.

ESPN has us rated as having the 4th best recruiting class in the BIG XII and 39th over all. Just wondering if our 3 man front keeps us from getting some rush ends. Not everybody wants to play in this formation.

Just watched the Survivor episode celebrating 40 seasons. Previewed the upcoming season. Im so stoked for this season. Probably not going to live up to the hype I have conjoured up.

Been going religiously to the ol hometown doc for years every 6 months . Doc X is a one man shop , hasnt put any money in the place other than equipment for years. No TVs in the place, notta. Good dentist really I had no complaints other than sometimes a tooth be a little more sensitive than I thought when drillling and healing and I had a cavity I thought should be repaired but he said it was fine... Hes getting near retirement age so I decided what the hell time to make the jump . Decided to go to Doc ABCs new joint that has multiple tvs state of the art equipment and multiple doctors and hygenist. Im thinking finally they are gonna fix this tooth been bothering me I thought ol Doc X should of fixed a year ago. Did my cleaning and ill be go to hell they had alot of gee wiz bang equipment . ... Hit me with an estimate bill for 4 CROWNS to fix... 6400 dollars. Said had to fix some of old Doc Xs work and wasnt enough tooth left after redoing the fillings and fixing the new decay. I says what the heck, Doc X never said I had any of this 6 months ago. They said he was too old school and he was to fixed on the olden days and didnt have the technology. Seems a little like a sales pitch more than a repair shop but whats the consensous ? Crowns for some cavities my old doc couldnt see 6 months ago seems crazy. Talked to a few other people and they said this has also happened to them...

TLDR : Do I get the crowns or only fix the tooth bothering me ?

Looking for recommendations on general physician in Des Moines area. Getting close to 40 and haven’t been to a doctor in 15 years or more. What steps should I be taking for my health?

I am fine with either a man or a woman doctor.

I normally think Coach K is a bit of a blow-hard, but I thought his views on the future of college basketball are spot on. I also think this discussion is interesting in light of Coach Prohm's struggles. Situations like Wigginton, Lard and, to a lesser extent, THT or Haliburton, have really reduced the amount of high quality basketball players in the NCAA. Kids that would have stuck around 3-4 years and become stars in the past are now declaring with no real guarantee of NBA money.

As kids continue to find creative ways to skip college, and with the likelihood of the 1 year requirement being eliminated, it's going to be interesting to see what kind of quality the NCAA can keep up. I'm afraid the medoicore basketball we've seen this year might be the new norm.

I think it could be closer than we want.

Pants: Jesus/Ghandi. I feel like that covers a lot of the bases. And while not everyone would vote for them, I feel pretty confident they’d carry enough to win every state.

Pants: Are the stalkers Doc and JC? If so, frankly, you should be honored. I’ve drank beer with both of them. Well, Doc drank hard ciders, but same general concept still.
GTO: You could do worse than Doc and JC. However, I didn’t know Doc was getting drunk off the apple juice.



@jcyclonee asks (and apparently also withdraws the question?): Can you do something about all these basketball games being broadcast on ESPN+ and ESPNU? I'm not paying extra for that crap. Actually, hold off on that request until next year when we get all the recruits with cool names on the team.
GTO: In the age of so many streaming services, ESPN+ does not offer enough for me to justify spending money on the service. I can just find a stream of the game and then proceed to watch ISU basketball brick away another game.
Pants: ESPN is literally the worst. Like, the absolute worst. And ESPN+ has nothing to do with it.
GTO: Remember the good ol’ days of ESPN? Back when I was in college, Sportscenter with Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen was must-see TV. I also miss the late night world’s strongest man and strongest women competitions, lumberjack games, etc. Perfect drunk watching after the bars. In my opinion it all started to go downhill when they started broadcasting WAY too much world series of poker crap. Seems like it was 24/7 poker for a while. They should have put Weird Al in charge of scheduling like in UHF and start mix/matching some of the shows like world’s strongest poker players where the poker chips weigh 50 pounds. A little more challenging being all-in then. Or maybe lumberjack vs. coked-up beaver tree felling. Just some ideas.

Per multiple reports Coach Bob Sanger lost his battle with cancer this morning. I consider myself very fortunate to have known him and learned directly from him. I am better because of him. RIP Coach, the many you have influenced will finish what you started from Hancock County across the country.
