INSTANT REACTION: West Virginia 76, Iowa State 61

The West Virginia players really didn't play all that hard tonight.

I hate to say it but I tend to agree with you....The self evident truth is, that you do not have to play very hard to beat a team like ours who only has two shooters on the entire team......Maybe we can win a couple more games but this team is not very good.....

Defensively, you can pretty much allow Nixon and Jacobson guard themselves. Other guys like Solo and Conditt aren't going to create a ton of offense for themselves. If they're scoring, it's pretty much off garbage points or alley oops. Jackson is a freshman who doesn't quite have his shot or legs yet, though he's looking better with each passing game. Shades of Monte.

That said, when you have 5 guys in your 7 man rotation that aren't really a pure threat to score, you're pretty easy to guard and prepare for.

Zion and Terrence play hard, and have flashes of excellence, but their playing time and performance is sporadic and inconsistent.

There was not much red in the crowd compared to previous years.

I felt pretty lonely, but the WVU fans are always nice.

I would compare the atmosphere to one of those early season non-con games against a lame opponent when you know you are going to win (save for FA&MU).

Not much of a crowd. Not much energy in it. It was still fun, yes, but it had more of a relaxed or chill vibe than the intensity you think a Big 12 game should have.

I talked to some nearby WVU fans, and they told me, "Well, this was a nice game to get all of our guys in a slump out of their slumps," which made me feel sad.

They did say to keep up hope -- they were bad last year, but now they are really competitive again this year and are gunning for Kansas next week. Things can turn around quickly in basketball, unlike in some other sports.

Feels like we've slipped to TCU during the Trent Johnson era - levels of bad. Nobody worries about us anymore.

It's sad when we barely have a page of responses on Cyclonefanatics after the game. That shows how little excitement we have with this team.

Our bigs are terrible passers and can't figure out when is the appropriate time to shoot or dish outside for possible open threes. It is a blackhole. Once ball goes under the basket, or after O rebound, you know our bigs will either force ugly putbacks over 3 dudes or force fadeaways. It certainly doesn't help the fact that our guards don't move around when ball is in the middle either.

Pretty much agree with CW here, except for ~”Jacobson has been up and down”~ I don’t recall many ‘ups’ for quite a while.

But yeah, play young guys as much as possible. I’d never advocate taking a Senior’s minutes who’s performing, but if they’re not, sorry, build for next year. MJ and Nixon should be spot minutes only.

I actually don't...was that a thing? I know he always had his team playing us tough, but good coach?

They always mentioned in on the broadcast during TCU games. "Tough year, tough place to win, but he's one of the most respected coaches in the league, blah blah..."

Does any of that sound familiar to Cyclones fans this year?
