2022-23 Season Basketball Predictions

We're under a month away from the tip off of the IUPUI game. What do we think happens this year? Going with the following

Buy games - Win them all. Especially pound the **** out of Milwaukee please

Major non conference games - Beat Iowa and St Johns. Unsure what we do against Missouri but we'll probably drop one we shouldn't so I'll pick that one. In the PK I'll say we upset Villanova the same way we got Xavier and Memphis, lose to UNC, and ill leave the last game as a toss up as IDK what to make of any of the other 4.

Non conference record - 11-2(3 once we hit the SEC game)

Conference - We start 1-4 with an OU road win. Then Texas comes to town. Pissed off Gabe returns and leads us to a win. We finish 8-10. Make the tournament as a 9 or 10 seed.

Kamilo Tongamoa and Hakeem Butler selected in XFL Draft

WBB postgame presser and interviews from loss to Toledo

Everything Bill Fennelly, Ashley Joens, Morgan Kane and Denae Fritz had to say following their first round loss to Toledo at the NCAA Tournament Saturday:

Questions about the Selection Process

Some day, if it ever get to talk to Jamie Pollard about the NCAA tournament selection process, I want to have some questions ready. Here are some of mine.
  1. Why are not all Round 1/2 sites correlated with the same Round 3/4 regional sites? For example, why does KU start in Des Moines, but set up to go to the West region rather than the KC region?
  2. Is there a rule to prevent lower seeded teams from having a geographic advantage? For example, why wasn't Auburn prevented from playing in Birmingham?
  3. How much impact does the conference tournament have?
  4. Does the committee pay any attention to the total number of teams coming from particular conferences?
  5. Might the committee have picked UCLA as a #4 seed and made ISU a #5 seed because of wanting UCLA to host Rounds 1/2 in the women's tournament? Because of TV viewership potential? Or because ISU hosted last year? Or because EIU was also hosting this year? Or trying to spread hosting around to other conferences?
  6. For what rounds are teams protected from repeat matchups?
Please feel free to add your own. Or provide links if there are official answers.

Looking at the tourney...

Be interested to hear other's insights about the road ahead of the sisters. Of course every game could be the last one depending on which team shows up. I'm basing my perspective on what I saw at the Big 12 Tournament in KC last week.

1st Round - Toledo. Normally the sisters have no troubles with mid-majors like the Mudhens. When you look at their schedule they had some non-conference games that were eye openers. One in particular, Michigan, was impressive. Michigan was a decent Big 10 team and the game was at Michigan. The other two decent opponents were losses. As a roster they don't show a lot of height. Their tallest starter (Cook) averages about 7 points and 4 boards per game. Top scoring threats are Lockett (17ppg) and Mikonowicz (10). Mikonowicz is also the leading rebounder and with Jansen (non-starter) the top three point shooters (38%). Keep in mind that neither of them have put up as many shots as our Ryan. As a team they have shot over 200 fewer threes than ISU. They have gotten to the line much more than ISU has and shoots a solid 78% when they get the opportunity. They have a solid nine deep (at least 10 mpg) lineup. One thing to note is they do get quite a few steals. I suspect our physicality (did I just say that?) will bother them, but we are going to have to take care of the ball or we will see them racing down the court with a steal.

What are your thoughts on game one? If the team we saw in KC shows up I think ISU wins by 15.

2022-23 Highlights

What are some your highlights/favorite memories from this season?

Beating #1 UNC. It's crazy now how far this is down the list of wins now but at the time that was fun as hell.

Absolutely owning Baylor all year. Basically controlled every game against them and dominated them on the boards. Who would've ever thought we would do that?

Controlling KU at home.

Watching Jaren Holmes become an all timer in one season. Love seeing a guy just soak up everything ISU and just love his time here. He is a really smart guy too, a great interview listen.

The Texas game at home. Insane environment.

Friday OT #1 - I’m Going BACK In Time

Thanks to @MeanDean for this idea! Here it goes - I will copy and paste for ease:

You have access to a time machine and can go back in time to one event anywhere in the world.

You can take $1,000 (or foreign/ancient equivalency) with you - and your current level of knowledge (no books, etc) but cannot change your age - if you're 40 now, you're 40 then.)

You can be gone for exactly three days.

You can't change history unless it directly affects you or your family's future. So you can buy a 1953 Corvette or a Mickey Mantle baseball card if you pick that time. You can't stop 9/11 or the Kennedy assassination.

What would you do?
