Twister Sister Summary - Looking Ahead (Part 2)

The Future
Things look bright in Cyclone country. Unlike previous years, the sisters don't have a singular player returning that the team will focus around. When Carleton was set to graduate we had a young Joens on the team as heir apparent. This year we don't. That doesn't mean the cupboard is bare, but quite the opposite. We have three all conference players in Fritz, Ryan and Donarski returning. The later two I'm sure determined to show better than they did this year. The former is a light just beginning to show her brightness. We have gained experience for players like Zingaro and Diew. So, we have a solid core to build around. Losing Vick is a small dent as we really didn't know what she brought to the table.

The recruits are another top ten class that includes:
Jalynn Bristow – Forward, 6-2 from Texas. She was the Miss Texas player of the year, averaged 25.8 points, 13.6 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 1.6 blocks per game and led her team to a state title.

Addy Brown – Point Guard, 6-3 from Kansas. She is a high school All American and the Kansas Gatorade POY. She averaged 20.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per game and was a two time 1st team Class 6A All State player. Very cerebral and an on floor leader/coach.

Audi Crooks – Center, 6-3 from Iowa. Many of us had the chance to watch her perform in the State tournament this year. She dominated in 1A and had 49 points and 16 boards in the final. But its what she did in AAU that caught the coaches' eyes. She is a big body with great hands. Prior to the state tourney she had scored 2659 points and had 1313 rebounds.

Arianna Jackson – Guard, 5-9 from Iowa. Averaged nearly 20 ppg, shot 46% overall and 43% from three. 84% free throw shooter as a senior. Scored over 1000 career points. Quick!

Kelsey Joens – Guard, 5-10 from Iowa. The next Joens. Like each of her sisters before her she is her own style of player. Finished with 1,647 career points. Two time first team 5A pick. She and Crooks are both IPSWA first-team picks. This year she averaged 24.6 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.0 steals playing for her sister.

Folks...there is a reason this class is ranked so highly. There is some serious talent entering the women's program that will both support and add to the existing talent. It's hard to say who will fill in the roles of departing players, but the added depth will be welcome. I expect Brown and Bristow to be immediate impact players, i.e. getting significant play time. Crooks has some development to do, but we will see her on the court as well. Jackson and Joens are wild cards. Both obviously have skills. We can hope that in year one they provide some rotation time for the guard court. The one I'm most excited about? Again a toss up between Bristow and Brown. Brown is a BIG point guard. Even if she moves to forward, it means she can move with and without the ball. Bristow is just a pure talent.

It's a good time to be a Twister Sister fan. There is a changing of the guard, but what I feel is most promising for next year is NOT having the one player everything rotates around. I much more like to think of the possibility of next year's team being a multi-headed beast that can strike inside and out and from multiple spots. The team is taking a Europe trip this summer that I'm sure will help gain some experience and sort things out. Personally, I'm just as excited for next year as I was this year...especially since there won't be any lofty expectations. Hang on....

Google Drive help

My wife took on a treasurers fob for a small non-profit, previously the books have been on paper and I am trying to setup up a Drive spreadsheet to help make reporting easier. I have the first sheet as a report sheet and sheets 2-13 as monthly ledger. I would like to have cell b6 on sheet one as a reference for the sheet of the monthly report, instead of changing each cell manually every month. When I use =b6!i50 I get an error, unresolved sheet name. If I use =January!i50 I get the correct number, how do I assign b6 as the sheet name, so we just type in the month of the report and all cells change.

Bracket Discussion

I wanted to start a thread about Bracket prediction. I know its meaningless and its not getting worked up over, but dangit, its entertainment. I waste time watching TV shows that are meaningless, going to movies that are meaningless and playing games that are meaningless, all in the name of entertainment, so I'm going to spend the next 2+ months pouring over any projection I can get my hands on.

As most of of know, the selection committee ranks all teams 1-68. Then starting at #1, they give each team the location closest to their school, no matter what. So what does that mean for Iowa State?

The distance from Ames to each location is in this order. Des Moines, Columbus/Denver (tied), Birmingham, greensboro, albany, orlando, sacremento.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of good teams who are also closest to Des Moines. Kansas, Arkansas, Kansas State, Marquette.
There are also some second tier teams that could move up if they go on a hot streak. Creighton, Missouri, Baylor, Illinois
Another problem is teams that have Des Moines as their second closest. Purdue, Texas, TCU

I'm not worried about Purdue. They will most like get Columbus. I listed out 29 teams and only 4 of them have Columbus as closest (Purdue, Ohio State, Xavier and Indiana) and there aren't too many with Columbus as #2.

Texas and TCU could be a problem. Birmingham is there closest, but its also the closest for Houston, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn. It could also come into play as an option for Duke, North Carolina or a those teams closest to Columbus.

As such, I think Iowa State at a minimum needs to be a 3 seed to get Des Moines and possibly a 2 seed. They need to finish ahead of Kansas, Kansas State, Texas, TCU, Baylor (at least head of 4 of those).

Google Fi and an iPhone 13

Does anyone here use an iPhone with Google Fi as the carrier? My son really wants an iPhone (I have a Pixel 7 and just can't talk him into going with the same phone that Dad has...ugh)! I would like to use Google Fi and it does say Google Fi and iPhone 13 is compatible but Google Fi website says that service is in "beta". Anyone have this type of setup? Are their any drawbacks to using an iPhone with Google Fi? TIA

NIL in Women’s Basketball

Lots of chat about NIL and what women are pulling down now. Here’s a good article that provides background and numbers. It’s all about star power both on the court and via social media.

I love bill as our coach!!!!!

im tired of everyone calling for a change. i love coach bill. he loves ISU and this is where he wants to be. before bill came here who would have ever thought of average 6000 people in the stands. mulitple sell outs. we just completed another big 12 tournament title ( that makes 3 under his tenure). he represents our school like i want a head coach to act. not like a certain former baylor coach. we are always in the conversation for upper half of the big 12 conference. consistantly always near 20 wins

we have maintained consistency under bill and his coaching staff. you can tell by the reaction of ashley in the interview on saturday that she didnt want her experience to end. he brings in quality players and players that are respectful. ( welle, freese, taylor , poppins , prins ,christopherson , oniel, carlton, ashley the list goes on)

yes this year ended like we did not want but they still get to hold a big 12 tourney title.

feel free to roast me but i would not want anyone else to lead our program

False Advertising on NFL Trading Cards?

I went with my kids to Wal Mart for them to buy some Pokemon cards and saw these boxes of Panini Select Draft Picks '22 sitting there with Matt Corral on the cover.

So I purchased a few boxes hoping to get a Breece Hall or Brock Purdy, but when I opened the cards, about 2/3 of them were not in fact 2022 draft picks. I got Bo Jackson, Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen, etc. I don't mind a few former picks, but it shouldn't be over half of the cards.

Is that common? To me, it seems like false advertising or misleading at best.

It wouldn't be so painful if they weren't so expensive (~$1/card).

History's Greatest of All Time - G.O.A.T.

Not sure if anyone else is checking out this new series on History Channel hosted by Peyton Manning. Thought it'd be a colorful topic for discussion.

Episode 1: Stadium Smackdown - the greatest stadiums and arenas of all time.

1. Yankee Stadium (New York, NY)
2. The Collisseum (Rome)
3. Madison Square Garden (New York, NY)
4. Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
5. LA Memorial Coliseum (Los Angeles, CA)
6. Wembley Stadium (London)
7. Comiskey Park (Chicago, IL)
8. Wimbledon (London)
9. The Astrodome (Houston, TX)
10. The Superdome (New Orleans, LA)

My kneejerk is there are easily a few "misses" here. Yankee Stadium at #1 is silly IMO. Sure there's a lot of history but as a venue it's pretty blah. I'd think Wrigley deserves a spot ahead of that and ahead of Comiskey. Three of the top four being East Coast is typical bias. And four baseball stadiums but not a single dedicated European football stadium? Old Trafford should be on this list somewhere.

Easy Word Problem to Equation Question

Okay, this is an easy math question (to get the answer with simple intuition) but how the heck can it be reduced to a solvable equation?

Here it is:

My car travels 20 miles as another, traveling 20 miles/hr faster, going 30 miles in the same amount of time. How much time does it take?

There seems to be enough information, and I won't give "amount of time" answer. But what would an equation look like to solve for time?
