On That Note: I Want to Hit That High/Drop It Low, Girl

Welcome back to “On That Note,” CycloneFanatic’s weekly thread for music listening & discussion, co-hosted by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.

This week’s topic comes to us courtesy of @VeloClone: Songs that feature countertenor/falsetto (high register) male singing or contralto (low register) female vocals.

It doesn’t have to apply to the entire song (nor be the “norm” for an artist’s body of work), but should demonstrate a notable example of the singer’s register.

Also accepted: Songs you initially thought were sung by one gender, but actually is the other.

You are allowed to cite a singer already posted, but please follow the thread and use a different track.

In a follow-up post, I'll get us going with one example of each.

CRTC Fundraiser for NCAA Tournament

I know we have had a fair amount of fundraisers for the CRTC.

Different people have the ability to donate different amounts, so thinking I just list categories and have people decide their own level

Team trophy
Top Five
Top 10
Individual National Champs (so much per NC)
Finalist (so much per finalist)
All Americans (so much per AA)

The top of each category would eliminate the donation of the lower ones,
so if we get a trophy, you don't pay for the Top 5 level or Top 10 level
same with the Individual National Champs, then don't pay for the Finalist level.

What do people think?

NFL: First round QB picks- past 15 years

Interesting article about the last 15 years of first round quarterback picks in the NFL.

The hit rate is pretty low, which suggests that it's mostly just a crapshoot.

306,000 alumni could turn the tide

We have 306,000 alumni. If only half care about sports and those people gave $5 a week to We Will, that would be $40 million per year.
There is your gauntlet. If you can’t do $5 a week, try $2.50 a week. If you can do more, do it.
I personally live out of state so I’ve committed to a sum I think would be equal to what I’d spend going to FB and BB games for tickets, gas, food, drink. For those in a similar situation, you might consider giving more.

CF Challenge for ForeverTrue Day

Fanatics -

As you well know, the Iowa State University Foundation is a big supporter of what we do here at Cyclone Fanatic. I thought it would be really cool if we could rally behind them and track gifts made by CFers for 2023 Forever True Day.

We have a personalized link for CFers here.

I plan to give to the marching band, vet med and the school of journalism.

Click on that link above and see all of the incredible options.

My goal here isn't for us to raise a ton of money (although that would be awesome) but to get our user base engaged with other aspects of the university besides athletics. I think this is a really cool event and hope you all participate if you can.

Giving starts at noon!

Someone say the silent part out loud for me

Why would the NCAA want to intentionally screw the biggest star in WBB out of winning a championship? I keep seeing people say(not all Hawk fans) that the game was not reffed fairly towards both ends and that "you know why" they wouldn't want Clark to be a national champion, which is why the game was fixed for LSU.

But I actually do not know why. At all. I'm beyond confused. Someone help.

Look-Ahead/Promo: This week at “On That Note”

Informational/promo purpose only. Please do not post song clips in this thread. (Official thread coming Tuesday night, as typical.)

For this week’s segment, we’ll explore notable music producers, selecting favorite tracks/albums/artists involving their collaboration. This topic could require a little research, so advance notice may prove helpful.

We’ll include some parameters regarding how many producers/selections can be cited for each participant. OTN crew is finalizing details for that. It won’t be extremely stringent; main goal is, we want this to be collaborative, not a “contest.”

Meanwhile, start your search, and we’ll see you Tuesday!

Officiating - what to do?

Throughout the season anyone watching an ISU women's game consistently saw officials that were average at best and often pretty bad. Prior to the final four someone on here (sorry...couldn't find the post) listed the officials and commentary about it matched what we saw. Now there is much conversation about all the fouls being called, the lack of some calls, and overall...the inconsistency in the title game. Even the latest Monday Musings voice the opinion that officials should swallow their whistles (my words) as opposed to making calls that interrupt the flow of the game. So...my big questions are these...why do we have rules and officials? Are there times when officials should ignore the rules and "let players play?" Are there "no call" periods in the game (such as the last minute of regulation) when no whistles should be blown?
