Big12 School Media Value

As part of the realignment discussion, there has been conjecture:
  • Does the Big12 add select Pac12 schools (4 Corners Option) - 16 schools
  • Does the Big12 & Pac12 Merge - 22 schools
  • Something between 16 & 22 schools based on maximizing media $ per school
In thinking through those options, it seems a pretty clear hierarchy within the Pac12. But when I try to value Big12 schools, I have a tougher time because TV market size doesn't align with the best schools on the field/court. Teams in the biggest media markets, aren't the main state schools getting most attention and largest alumni bases (Houston & TCU). So just curious how other people would rank the new Big12 from Media Rights valuation.

  1. Okie State
  2. BYU
  3. Texas Tech
  4. Kansas (Having a historical top 5 hoops program saves them)
  5. West Virginia
  6. Iowa State
  7. Cincinnati
  8. Kansas State
  9. Baylor
  10. UCF
  11. Texas Christian
  12. Houston
I realize the upside of the AAC adds to the Big12 last fall, but if they were highly prized schools for the TV Networks, they would have already been P5 schools. OR the AAC TV contract would have been more lucrative.

Ever wondered why so many educated people are so damn stupid?

Picked up a prescription today. Told me I needed to speak to the pharmacist because the dose had changed. She went on and on, finally I told her I take it for leg pains and it wasn't getting me through the night. Then she said does your doctor know you increased the dose? I replied I didn't up the dose the guy that sent the prescription in did. Are we done?

Big 12/ Pac 12 Merger (keep all the teams)

I would add 2 out of 3 from Memphis, Boise State and San Diego St to get to 24 teams.

Also, there is this article in The Athletic:

Friday OT #1 - I Did Not Shoot the Deputy

Thanks so much to @Bipolarcy for another great idea! Here's what he wrote:

Have you ever been accused of doing something you didn't do? I'm thinking along the lines of a car accident, where the other party said you were at fault, but you know you weren't or maybe something was missing from a house you visited and they blamed you for stealing it or a case of mistaken identity by the cops. Something along those lines.

I have one. I was sitting at my desk at an old job, on a call with a customer. A police officer walks in, and asks if there is an "Angela X XXXXX." The middle initial and last name are relevant here, so let's make one up. F Smithson. "Is there an Angela F Smithson here?"

I was terrified, but went to him. He served me papers for a small claim from the hospital in town for not paying outstanding bills. I was mortified, and went back to my desk as he left. I was also highly confused, as I didn't have any outstanding charges, but I wasn't going to argue with an officer. So, I started reading the paperwork. First I noticed that it said "Smithsen," not "Smithson." Could be a typo, so I kept reading. Had my address listed wrong. OK, it's a college town, maybe that was just a mixup... until I noticed it had my social security number wrong. Really wrong, not just a little.

I showed it to some friends, and one of them speaks up. "Oh, I know that Angie Smithsen. She's one of my drunk hookups, she lives at that address." I knew he was telling the truth, because he'd accidentally called me once or twice on accident after midnight meaning to call her, so I always had to tell him he had the wrong Angie.

I had to call the lawyer for the hospital and inform them that they had served the wrong person, but kept the paperwork just in case they didn't fix the situation. It was STILL mortifying.

SI Desirability Rankings

This is one of the more comprehensive analyses I’ve seen. Most are lazy “pick the top brands” but this is a good weighted average of many things that matter in college sports. Reviewing these (ISU is #27) it’s hard to argue with them.

Work Ethics Question

I have an ethical dilemma that I'm curious what others would do...

I have a coworker who has been at this company for about a year. He was hired at a position above his pay grade, but the understanding/hope was that he would grow into the role. Unfortunately, he has not grown much into the role. Now he finds himself being far overpaid for the work he is producing. The other day, his boss mentioned to me "well, I think we all know where this is headed." Meaning, he doesn't have long before he gets let go due to performance.

My question: would you tell the person in question about this? If so, how would you phrase it? I want to give him a heads up so he could be looking elsewhere, but I don't want to step out of bounds or cause him undue stress. I don't know that anyone has sat him down about his performance yet, either.

I am not in his line of reporting structure and I wouldn't say it's CERTAIN he'll get fired, but I would peg it at 70-80% likely at this point.

Hail damage (car)

Our car got quite a bit of hail damage a few weeks ago. It's an oldish car (2015) with just over 100,000 miles on it. At the time, I didn't think it was worth the deductible to get it fixed, but I'm having second thoughts. Anyone else dealt with this and have pros/cons?

With Dekkers under helm…

What changes to Manning’s playbook do you think happened once all these new faces were inserted to #1 on the depth chart?

I’d imagine we will see more down the field plays with Dekkers. He has a few weapons that I think will expand the playbook. Only request is a qb sneak play instead a shotgun run on 4th and 1.

Just trying to stir more football talk… I’m pumped!

Fear not Cyclone Nation

Just to add some background, I had heard whispers, ok more like gunshots wink wink, of the Ferrari clan being on the outs at Okie State for about a month.

I let myself dream for a bit about what if, but then the bat signal went silent for about two weeks and I didn’t hear boo about the clan. Now we know why because of this most recent news just adds another layer to wrestling’s most dysfunctional family.

But the good news that I am hinting about is still to come and it will definitely be building for the future for Cyclone wrestling. So sit back and enjoy the ride, it’s going to be fine.
