On That Note: Sew it Goes

Welcome back!

This week, we feature a sort of textile-arts theme.

Looking for songs with title or lyrics containing forms of the words sew, weave, stitch, yarn, thread, needle (the sewing kind, preferably NOT the vinyl-record or syringe versions) and any other related terms. A bit of homonym-extension, we’ll accept “sow” (but not “so.”).

NOT ACCEPTED: articles of clothing (unless one of the keywords is interwoven)

“On That Note” is presented weekly by @MeanDean, @CycloneRulzzz and cyclones500.
I'll enter the fray with a follow-up post.

Dad Sayings - Words of Wisdom

My adult daughter and her fiance were having trouble with getting a car started last night so they called for advice. While they were on FaceTime I was trying to educate them on what to look for. Out of nowhere I spewed out one of the things my dad always said, "An engine needs two things to start: gas and spark. If it's not starting it's one of those two things." It was one of those two things and it's running fine now. But it got me thinking about what other things I need to be sharing with my kids.

What are the pieces of "wisdom" your dad bestowed on you that you find yourself saying aloud?

F1 2024 Discussion

McLaren already showed off their livery for '24, and we're just a couple weeks out from everyone doing their reveals so I guess it's time to start a new thread.

Where to watch part of women's game, before Wednesday's Men's Game?

Hi All,

Do you have a strategy for catching some of the Women's game on ESPN+ before heading over to the mean's game tomorrow?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I could not find it on the archives with search. Are there bars that can / do carry ESPN+ for public consumption. OR, do you just take your ESPN+ subscription on your laptop and find a place with WIFI?

Please share your strategy / methodology.

Thanks!

Looking for some Alumni-frequented ISU bars in Chicago

Hey all. I’m looking for some bars in Chicago that are frequented by ISU alum. I know this has been discussed before here, but those last threads are pretty old and a lot has likely changed since then. I also know people will say Murphy’s Bleachers’, but that spot is really only frequented during games and otherwise caters to Cubs fans when there isn’t an ISU game going on.

I’m looking for places where I can regularly find other alumni on non-game weekends and are sort of like unofficial Cyclone bars of sorts. I specifically want to find one this summer since some friends I graduated with and currently live down the street from me are breaking their lease, so this might be our last summer to hang around ISU bars before they go their separate ways. If something like this exists, I’d love to hear it as well as any discussion of Iowa State’s presence in the various bars of Chicagoland these days.

Jack Trice / Hilton photos

Hello all - I am looking to have 2 large photos printed for in our man cave. I would like one of Hilton Coliseum and one of Jack Trice Stadium. I’ve seen the usual panoramic photos of each but I was wondering if any of you have taken great photos of either that you would be willing to share. Looking to have these blown up on a wall and be roughly 6’ x 3’.

Thanks!!

Iowa House Re Title At Death of Spouse

I've come across an Iowa situation and wondering if someone can shed some advice on this. Have a friend who's husband has just passed. They titled their house as "tenants in common" rather than "Joint with rights of survivorship". This was done in 2014 when they bought the house .... and it was titled that way because that's how things were done, I'm told.
Now that he's passed, she began work via an attorney on getting it put in her name. He tells her it's going to be a long and expensive process. His fee around $5K. Plus there will be court fees, etc. Will take 6 to 9 months.
He said awhile back state law changed and if your property is currently titled this way ... beginning in 2015 or later, you don't have to go through all this crap.
There's got to be a cheaper and faster way to get this into her name only. Help. Thanks!
