My role on CF evolves

As many of you have gathered over the past month, both my mental and physical state have not been the best (well they've always sucked, they just suck in more impactful ways now). Normally I wouldn't post something like this outside the mod board, but I've had a number of people continue to reach out after the mental health thread and my likelihood of responding is going to be much less for a while...

Two days after my thread around the will to live, ironically, I had a stroke and heart attack. Spending a few days in the hospital kept me from being as active on CF, and again reiterated how much it means to me and is a part of my life. Unfortunately, my mental health has only continued to get worse, likely leading up to having a very short leash in a few threads on Sunday.

Early yesterday AM, I was rushed from work to the ER for another stroke, this time a bit larger (MRI revealed it left a centimeter sized mass, some scar tissue, and other things I don't comprehend in the brain) - but thankfully there was no residual hemorrhaging. Some slurred speech remains, but otherwise doing well. And still, my mental health continues as it has been, at a very dire point.

So with that, I will be making several changes that will impact some of you, and elate most of you...
  1. I anticipate no longer doing much, if any, texting or communicating with coaches, players, recruits, donors, etc.
    1. Those that had group PMs with me on these things will no longer get responses.
    2. Those that looked for me to fill in w/ info during the quiet times in the Premium forum will be disappointed.
  2. I plan to avoid game threads and other threads with an emotional overtone (thankfully I was unable to watch last night's game I take it).
  3. I will not be reading or responding to PMs - a place where a lot of hatred comes my way for whatever reason (I probably deserve it).
    1. Exception being if I can tell from the title it's positive or if it's from somebody that I already know/respect.
  4. I will likely be more of a lurker than poster for a while.
Unfortunately, CF has never stopped being my #1 passion and pride after family and work so none of this will help the mental health issues in any way. I would guesstimate that I spend 80% of my online time on CF - the rest on 3d printing and tech websites.

Thank you to all that continue to make CF so much to so many. Please be kind to each other, and especially the moderators who give their time to do a thankless job. And please make sure to continue to look after your own mental and physical well being.

Lipsey needs to be aggressive outside

for as great as tamian has been this year the big 12 coaches have found his kryptonite. early in the year on the pick and roll he got easy passes to shoon . now defenses are sagging completely off of him. they are dropping his defender into the paint and taking his driving lanes and passing lanes away. he has to take a couple outside shots to at least make defenses guard him strait up. otherwise we are playing 4 on 5 on the offensive end of the floor

STANZ: Red flags appear as Iowa State surrenders 23-point lead in Lubbock

That was... not fun. Poured out a bunch of thoughts after the game here.

Even after tonight’s loss…

By this time Saturday night we can be back in a log jam tie for first.

Tonight was brutal. No doubt. There are issues. No doubt. But we are great at home.

Right now Texas and KSU have two losses. Isu and ku and tcu have three. Baylor with four.

If the following results happen see the standings on Saturday night…

Kansas wins tomorrow night at home vs KSU.

Ksu beats Texas Saturday in Manhattan.

Iowa state beats Kansas on Saturday in Ames.

Tcu loses at okie state

Baylor beats Texas tech

Standings would be:

Iowa State 7-3
Kansas State 7-3
Texas 7-3
Kansas 6-4
Tcu 6-4
Baylor 6-4

And we’d have the tiebreaker as number one seed.

Again. We could lose. But it’s crazy that with a win over Kansas we could still be right in it. #EternalOptimist

Not good

We were cruising. Up 23. Then the wheels totally fell off. When we turned it over and then fouled them on a layup and they got it down to 14 I told my buddies we are gonna lose this watch. And they reamed me.

Let’s halt any conference title talk. We still could make a run but for me that ship has sailed.

Saturday is now huge. Lose that and then head to a much tougher team in Morgantown that needs quality wins?

We’ve now lost three of five. Yes this league is brutal but these past two games are cause for worry. Not for making the tourney. We will get there.

But my goodness. How we react to this loss is going to be interesting to see.

TJ’s Weaknesses Exposed Tonight

0 adjustments on either side of the floor. Bob Jones playing starter-level minutes despite godawful play. Lipsey throwing the ball away 3 possessions in a row and the same looks bringing it up the court. No Ward minutes at all despite no one else being able to do anything. Throwing up a contested 3 as the drawn-up play while down 1. The list goes on and on. Yet all anyone wants to do is complain about the refs.

This trend in road games is really bugging me

This is a problem now.

Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech have all had insane runs against us while we went into major droughts. It's not happening in Hilton. Villanova and kinda North Carolina had those against us in Portland too.

I understand P6 games away from home are tough. I understand that other teams are going to go on runs as well. But how are we constantly blowing 15+ point leads on the road? That should not and cannot keep happening.

NCAA to become involved with NIL policing

The introduction of name, image and likeness deals in college sports has brought with it an entirely different set of problems for the NCAA.

On one hand, NIL legislation has given us incredible stories such as the 51 offensive linemen that signed an endorsement deal with Hooters last season.

On the other hand, you wind up with situations like former Florida Gators QB commit Jaden Rashada getting trapped in limbo thanks to a $13 million deal gone wrong.

It’s truly a double-edged sword.

Normally, that would be where the NCAA steps in. But lack of oversight and vague laws have made it difficult to do so thus far. Now that could be about to change.

NCAA Ramping Up Enforcement Of NIL Violations

Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reports that the NCAA is preparing to step up its enforcement of NIL rules thanks to a significant change.

The NCAA and enforcement staff will no longer be hamstrung by uncooperative witnesses when it comes to potential name, image and likeness (NIL) violations, thanks to a new bylaw that went into effect Jan. 1.
Investigators can now use circumstantial evidence (like a tip or news story) instead of on-record sourcing to presume a school violated NCAA rules. Schools can disprove the allegation or else be potentially charged. The move strengthens the enforcement staff’s ability to charge schools and allows more leeway for investigators. – via SI.com
Dellenger spoke with NCAA vice president of enforcement Jon Duncan regarding the significant rule change.

“If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck,” Duncan said. “Instead of putting the burden on the enforcement staff to always come up with a smoking gun, which we don’t always have, there is a presumption. It puts the burden on the school. It’s a really powerful tool.”
Duncan did not address any programs specifically. But his comments come at an interesting time. Not only are the Gators dealing with the Rashada fall out, but Michigan and coach Jim Harbaugh could also be in trouble.

how does this scam work?

facebook marketplace
giant welding table for sale. probably weighs 3000 lbs

There were red flags all over the place, but I dipped my toe in the water because I need this thing gone. they said "will you take a check as long as it clears before I send movers to pick it up?" I said sure. they send the check but it is for more than the price of the item and they say "oh sorry forgot to inform you, I didn't want to send 2 checks so you'll have to pay the movers out of the single check I sent you". It was a little over 1k more than the table price.

I said no, absolutely not. they deleted our correspondence. this is obviously a scam. but how does it work? If the check clears, I have their money and the welding table and they have nothing. If the check doesn't clear the deal is off, and I move on and no one wins.

Tidiane Jalloh (‘23 JC DE) Commitment Watch

I have no idea what’s going to happen with Jefferson Adam this evening, and I have zero idea whether the staff would take two JC defensive ends late in this class, but…why wouldn’t you take a guy listed at 6’6” 270 who runs like a linebacker, and even drops into coverage?

The staff took several JC’s late last year, after all. I think he’s 4 to play 3. So, a sophomore eligibility-wise…as most of those late JC’s were.

Oh, and for ease of pronunciation, apparently his nickname is “Frenchy”.
