Zion Griffin Recent Dunk Highlights

He's a bit raw so I don't know what to expect from him in Year 1, but he's got massive potential. He'll thrive in the CPL I bet.

Yeah, it seems like his game could go a lot of different directions. IMO, he’s one of more interesting recruits we’ve had this last decade because there are such a wide range of outcomes.

If this article is correct, then this is only Griffin's 6th season playing basketball, and just his second year on the varsity... Still scored 1,000 points.

Edit, I responded to the wrong post. I meant to respond to Cydkar's post above

actually, I think he is polished. already had an inside game, and then just like that comes up with a consistent outside game last summer. To pull that off that quick means the kid is just flat out talented. He is only raw in the sense that he probably still has a lot of upside, but as a basketball player that is a senior in high school he a 4 star recruit with a polished game. When I think of raw, I think of someone like Edozie

I think he’s probably raw when in comes to ball handling and passing and just generally being comfortable on the perimeter. Edozie was playing strictly 5 so they didn’t really expect him to need those skills that much. I think he may have an adjustment similar to Lewis.

fair point. I actually posted without reading the article. Now in that context, your right he may be a bit raw in some areas. Plenty talented though.

From a one game sample I completely agree with this. I’d also add that I think he’s less prepared than Ejim was in being a small-four as a freshman.

I made the Hogue comparison in part because Hogue started on the perimeter but wasn’t asked to do a lot of ball-control dribbling or passing. And the space provided by being on the perimeter allowed Hogue to chase rebounds. Imo Zion can drive off good ball reversal like Hogue, but he’s not creating next year imo.

He will benefit from playing fast and uptempo, which hopefully our depth will facilitate. The freshman he may be closest to is Rashon Clark.

This. Take a look at that team Hogue's senior year.

Hogue, Niang, Morris, BDJ, McKay, Naz, Nader, MT.

Thing the emergence of McKay hurt his rebounding numbers. When McKay/Niang were on the floor Hogue either played the 3 or was on the bench.

I generally don't think 3 vs 4 mattered in Hoibergs system but he went from the 5 to the 3. He was just in such a different role and he adapted well. If we're honest, he's probably a guy that was more dynamic than we ever really saw.

He's actually not polished. He's not Edozie raw, to be sure. He's raw for a stud. :)
He has no right hand and has a ton of development to do as a wing. In this case raw is a good thing and it may not be the best word.
