Good thing I bought a lifetime subscription so I don't have to worry about a price increase.
They stopped offering that pretty quickly. It was before I got on, and that was 3 years ago.

However, the companies said last year that they would be willing to offer a so-called "a la carte" price plan where consumers could pick certain packages ranging from $6.99 a month to $16.99 a month. The two companies have also maintained that a combined service offering the best of both companies' offerings will cost less than the $25.90 a month that a consumer would currently have to pay to subscribe to both Sirius and XM.

There are a few music channels on XM that do have commercials which is the 1 thing I don't like. Never had that with a Sirius music channel.
Hard to explain but some of the music lineups and formats just seem better on Sirius although I have found a few I like better on XM too. Both have their pros and cons, being able to pick ala carte will be a plus if they allow it.
There are 5 Clear Channel produced channels that air commercials. I am not an XM sub,so I am not sure how often they air, but since Clear Channel was an initial investor to start XM, they had a court battle to air commericials on their produced channels when XM dropped them from the other channels. Here's the link...KISSThey have like 70 that are commercial free. I don't know what you were listening to.

As a person that works for terrestrial radio, I'm torn on this. I DO subscribe to XM because my wife likes to listen to the Wisconsin football games while we tailgate at ISU games. I love the baseball play by play and being able to always hear my White Sox. The channels that I really like are mostly copied on Sirius, so the only benefits for me as a subscriber would be to get Big 12 Football and NFL games. Otherwise, XM's music programming is just fine for me.
Now, as a local broadcaster, this does concern me a bit. Offering more choice on the satellite dial gives listeners another reason to walk away from local radio. However, local radio will always be the one that people go to when things like severe weather and big local stories happen. Satellite isn't as big of a competitor to us as iPods are, but it's getting stronger with this merger. Part of me is hoping the FCC shuts this down.
No XM is GOOD! The thing it does it makes local radio compete, same deal with local tv and satellite. The problem with local radio is there is just too many commercials. I know you have to pay the bills, but jeez, I have a 25 min commute, and some days I would only hear 2 songs on the way to work with all the commercials.
I've had both. Sirius kicks the crap out of XM. I am curious to see what happens though. XM did have a couple channels I miss.
