WWJD- What Will Jamie Do?

Iowa fans rode Dr. Tom out of town for making the Tourney every year and then an exit after making the round of 32. Like you said, expectations raise and fans want more. Not a lot of happy campers after the UAB loss. If that happened a couple more times in a row..........who knows?

Well, that's iowa fans. Doesn't really add to my point, at least not apples to apples. More like apples to cumquats or somethign ... but yea that's the general idea.

I don't want Jamie gone, but it isn't uncommon for a leader to want "his guys" in office. Hell, Jamie did that when he first got here. All coaches were replaced or fired except Bill and Christy, right? (might be missing someone)

DMac would not have been fired errrr forced to resign.....except. JP even stated that. JP would have preferred that DMac have continued success.

Dan McCarney had a much shorter leash than Paul Rhoads. President Leath really hasn't had too short of a leash with quite a few departments, most notably the ISU Foundation.

Let's be realistic here... Iowa fans are in general incredibly stupid people who have no appreciation for anything. Iowa State fans aren't even close to that level.

I wonder what Leath is thinking right now as he sees Fred on the verge (or so it seems) of leaving, and a dumpster fire of a football program across the parking lot. Leath has never appeared to be a "long term guy" at Iowa State, and Athletics can often dictate a president's legacy or reputation, although it shouldn't. I suspect he could make big moves if this doesn't pan out well, and football continues its downward trajectory that has been steady since 2012.

Facilities are at an all-time high. Money coming into the AD is at an all-time high. The best 4 year run in ISU basketball history. Those matter. A lot.

Jamie has hired 2 head football coaches and 2 head men's basketball coaches at ISU. Only one of those has a winning record. A .250 batting average for an athletic director is pretty bad. If Fred does leave, he really needs to get this pick right.

To be fair (although maybe you don't want to be), how many football coaches at ISU end up with a winning record? Earl Bruce is the only coach we have had finish with a winning record since WWI. So he is running about average in that department.

People need to stop bashing TJ, another person that loves ISU. As I've said for a month, he hasn't been promised the job, he was brought in to provide continuity between staffs if a coaching change was made (remember, these players are his recruits) and to be a candidate, nothing more or less. His family loves Ames (remember his wife?) and the more people around here try to insult him and his motives, the more they're going to push away yet another potential coach.

Self-fulfilling prophecies are what some on here seem to live for.

Some people will trash anyone available the moment adversity hits. I prefer to think that they're all 14 years old and have yet to develop emotional control.

I know many think I am crazy and starting fires, but this is coming from solid sources.

If this is true, Blums BS that it is best for Fred to leave now is completely false and this year would be worse than next year as we would have a depleted roster.

Who's going to leave? Not George. Not Naz. Monte might but can't believe he would sit a year when he could potentially turn pro. Nader isn't going anywhere - has ready transferred so no redshirt. Hallice Cook burned his redshirt so he would lose a year. Really don't see mass exodus.

Horny is loved here as most fans remember his playing days. If it looks like he might be listening to JP Sarver, the Suns owner, will have to give him a raise. After a promising "rebuilding " year the Suns sucked this past season and with the Morris twins indicted on criminal charges of beating up their mother's boyfriend he jest cannot afford any more ****** off fans.

I would take any one of these guys over Hornacek or Otz. Larry Krystkowiak, Chris Mack, Tad Boyle, Cuonzo Martin, Dan Hurley, Chris Mooney, Archie Miller

Amen. Tad Boyle would be a home run. Hornacek may well be fired next year.
Agreed. IMO, JP caught lightning in a bottle with Hoiberg and his lack of college experience. Now we just assume we can hire any ex-cyclone with some NBA experience to keep the status quo. I think it would be a big mistake. Hornacek would be a disaster in my opinion. No reason we can't land a proven head coach at ISU.

I don't know what Jamie would do, but what he should do is

EVERYTHING IN HIS POWER TO KEEP HOIBERG

Open up that checkbook, time to pay Hoiberg what he is worth. I want at least a $4.5M salary with a stipulation he will always be a top 2 Big 12 paid coach.

Your new Johnny's Renovation will be completely worthless if no one comes to games due to a lack of Hoiball.

I would be willing to increase my annual 25 dollar donation to 26 to support that.

I'm sure plenty of ISU fans could argue that some of those (maybe all) aren't better options than Hornacek or JTO, for numerous possible reasons. Would Pollard have the same tunnel vision?

Maybe I wouldn't ultimately like Chris Mack, and perhaps he'd have no interest (for location or $$$ factors) for example, but he's been to five straight NCAA's and three freaking Sweet 16's in five seasons.

I agree about the "everything in his power" statement. I don't think it sounds that JP's making a very powerful statement for the media with regard to Fred. It's his job to do what's in the best interest of Iowa State, not what's in the best or self-interest of Fred.

I spent some time looking at comments that other AD's have made with regard to their head coaches looking around or being rumored to take other jobs, and I haven't found one where the AD made a comment that sounded like it came from a friend as opposed to a boss.

Considering the risk ISU took in hiring Fred in the first place, you think it'd be willing to take a further risk given the foundation Fred has established in his first 5 years.

Given that a national championship capable team is already in place for the upcoming season, $ and location may be a less of a factor. Not many prospective coaches (at any school) get to step into a national championship capable team already in place in year 1.
