Wrestling Rankings 23-24

Intermat still has us as 10th as a tourney team. **** those guys!!!

Meanwhile, Penn State has 7 guys ranked inside the top 5 including 5 guys ranked 1st at their weight. The current lowest ranked kid for Penn State is Tyler Kasak at 149 who is ranked 12th (and is only in the lineup because SVN tore his ACL when he was ranked 2nd). They have a legitimate shot to have 10 AAs and 5+ champions. I think they are going to really challenge the 170 points record

They are in their own league. But man the battle for second and third will be wide ass open. It will be a dog fight. We will need every bonus point we can get.

The only question for Penn State is how many champs, AAs, and points they will have. The team race will be a cake walk. They could possibly have 3 of their guys completely flop and walk away with it, as long as those 3 weren't Star, Brooks, and Kerk.

2nd -9th/10th should have a pretty high rate of compression. A team killing bonus, getting an unexpected AA, etc could be the difference in 4-5 placements and/or being on/off the podium.

ISU needs David to win, Yonger to make the finals, and have 2-3 guys finish in the 3-5/6 range. We also need Feldkamp to AA and pick up bonus in some of his matches.

He might be the guy that makes or breaks us. I could almost see him going 0-2 or getting 5thish with pins. He probably has the biggest difference between a realistic ceiling/floor of all of our guys.

Feel really good about 165/285 wracking up major points. Also feel highly confident in 141/149/157 performing well, not necessarily top 5, but anywhere from AA (6th - 8th) or R12. Hopefully all on the right side of that AA line. 133 almost in that category, but have a hard time seeing him beat any of the guys ahead of him in the rankings right now. He's got some bonus potential first round and backside though.

As it has all season, it comes down to what we get out of the high variance guys. 125 is ripe for racking up some unexpected points, could also be a dud. 174 could get hot and get pin a few dudes on the backside? 184 we know the bonus potential is there in any match.

Really excited to see how this team does.

The backside pins could be a real thing. Some guy that gets knocked out of the front and has MJ on short rest with little time to prep or no film is gonna have a nightmare on his hands. Even if you get a lead on him, MJ can full funkcity then and end you in a second.

Well, with Shawver beating Nagao tonight, Flo moved him ahead of Frost which puts Frost at 9th and Iowa State at 4th

Not that it matters but that’s a bad ranking IMO. Shawver has the better wins but more (and worse) loses than Frost.

Shawver has lost five matches, #4 Ragusin (x2), #13 Latona, #18 Wells and #32 Basile. Six ranked wins, #8 Nagao, #10 Bouzakis, #11 Romney (x2), #12 Colaiocco #24 Chlebove.

Evan has lost three matches to #3 Fix, #5 Orine and #6 Bailey. Five ranked wins, #11 Romney, #16 Santaniello, #19 Knox, and #21 Farber (x2).

That’s a tough one. I personally think that good wins should outweigh bad losses, but do think that Shawver is ranked too high.

But I’ve also thought Frost has been ranked too high. When your best win is #11, not sure how that justifies an 8.

Both guys are really close and somewhere in that 7-12 range.

165: 2nd
174: 23rd
184: 6th

Hwt: 3rd
Team Tournament: 2nd :eggplant:
What’s fun is that the one guy with a double digit seed between 33 and 65 could EASILY find himself on the podium as well.
