I'm amazed that people think we can do better than the coaches we have. NEWSFLASH. The trio of Rhoads, Burnham, and Mangino is the best we could ever hope for at ISU. If we can't win with them, we are not going to win... plain and simple.
I remember when we hired McDermat back in the day and we all thought that was the best we could get............................................

Well that trio has won zero conference games as a trio.

God forbid people expect to be a .500 team.... If these guys are so great, where are the results? I'm on the fence about giving him another year or not but these kind of comments are embarassing.

I haven't been real critical of the staff, though since this thread is asking directly, I answered that next year would be key. I've been through 34 years of Cyclone football, and this last stretch is obviously not the worst by a long shot.

However, there does come a point where the program hasn't turned a corner quite yet, and people (fans, recruits) stop believing that it will be turned. Doesn't mean that the coaches are bad, or don't know how to coach. Just means that things have gotten stale before the moment arrived, and sometimes that means that you need a change. I am hopeful that next year will provide that moment, because I love CPR's fire and personality, and want him to succeed.

Pretty much this whole season, I've been in the "2015 make or break year" boat, like most people. However, if we lose our last 4 and end up winless in the Big 12, the argument that he shouldn't have a chance at another season starts to sound a little less crazy.

I don't know how many of you were there on Saturday, but you could just feel the apathy in the air. It was palpable. The Cyclone Power chants were incredibly weak. People barely even cheered when Sam ran for that touchdown. This is not the electric Jack Trice Stadium atmosphere that I know and love. People are starting to lose their patience, and are becoming sick of the pathetic product Rhoads is putting out on the field. I fear that what we saw last Saturday could become the norm for future seasons if something isn't changed.

I'm very curious as to what attendance will look like next year with increased ticket prices, and increased capacity. I wonder how many people are going to continue to show up. I think we'd be lucky to fill the stadium to 75% against teams other than UNI or Iowa, unless we have a miraculous turnaround. Rhoads' buyout is huge but so is the possible loss in revenue by keeping him.

I'm not gonna pretend like I know all the answers. I just hope JP can look at all of our options and make the right decision for the future of the program.

But but but it's as good as it gets

Do you honestly, honestly, think we can do better than the coaches we have right now? Iowa State isn't the type of school where you bring in a coach and just start winning. Not gonna happen. He's been here 6 years, we've been to 3 bowl games. Is that great? No, but let's face it, that is all we are going to be capable of in the B12. To think we should be in the top half of the conference every year is delusional.

I'm a diehard fan, but you have to be realistic. Iowa State is a basketball school right now, the improvements we are making to the facility are helping, but we aren't gonna turn this thing around over night, or even in 6 years. It's tougher for schools like us and the only way we are going to get there is stability within the program.

Being in a power 5 conference and with the renovations and the support this fan base puts in even though we suck, jeez there has got to be an up n comer chomping at the bit to get this opportunity to showcase his abilities and make at least 2 million in the process.

This sounds like a perfect opportunity to welcome someone like Gene Chizik back to the program. Anyone that would take the ISU job would take it for the benefit of jumping to a bigger ship. If you are hoping for a bigger fish than Paul Rhoads, you are really setting yourself up for disappointment.

Mini ticket packages will be back with a bang.

Mark Farley can do a McD.

I get what youre saying, and I agree to a point. However, I don't think having a minimum expectation of winning 2 of the non-con games each season, and 3 conference games is too much.

Still only 25% want Rhoads gone. Maybe the vocal minority should tone it down a bit, eh? For example, instead of 20 new threads about wanting the coach fired this Saturday, take it down to 10 new threads. Just out of respect for the masses.

I can't imagine Rhoads' 75%+ support in this poll is rock solid. I don't think it would take much to reverse those numbers.

On the other hand, the best thing that could happen to the football program has happened.....basketball season.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the entire staff is back next year unless someone is hired away? I think everyone in the coaches office knows next year is make or break. I don't think Wally would retire knowing that. I think he's a man of integrity and would stay next year to either turn it around or Go down with CPR. Anything less than a bowl game next year and everyone is gone.

I most definitely do not want him gone after this season, regardless of what happens the rest of the way. For me, it takes incredibly way too long to start fresh in football. If next year is another flop of a season, Ill be off his bandwagon.

If/when we lose to KU this Saturday, this poll should be redone. Losing to KU will flip a large % to the side I have been on for some time. Stood on the field at last year's UNI game and declared that CPR was not going to get this done. Too many mistakes in coaching appointments and bad bad recruiting.

What credentials make Coach Rhoads the big fish? Being from the area? A couple defensive coordinator gigs and a less-than-impressive head coaching tenure? Thank God Michigan hired their Michigan Man Brady Hoke or they'd be in real trouble right now.

I don't care if the coach is from Mars. Is women's basketball suffering because Fennelly didn't have Iowa State connections? How about Christy Johnson-Lynch? Did Tim Floyd? Larry Eustachy didn't have them either.

Outside Iowa State what are Urban Meyer's ties to Ohio State? Does Nick Saban have awesome ties to Alabama? Ties might mean something but I'd guess just as many people have failed miserably as have succeeded with "ties" to their employer.
