Worst weekend ever as a Cyclone fan?

Remember relatively high expectations then getting smoked by Oklahoma and wasting the rest of the FB season 20 years ago? Losing to MSU in the Elite 8? Losing to Hampton? Losing to UAB? Seneca being in against FSU? Larry mingling with coeds? All of McDermotts tenure, and so on.

Nothing will top March 2001 for me, just from the pure humiliation standpoint. And that was just one game.

Edit: I'll elaborate. I'd been laid off from a job and gotten a large severance but had already found a new job starting in April. I was gonna blow that check following the Cyclones all over the country if they just got through the 1st round.

One of the first ISU basketball games I went to we lost an exhibition to Electronic Arts Sports...

Some wasted talent on that Iowa State Team. Shawn Taggart, a four-star recruit, eventually transferred to Memphis when Wayne Morgan was fired and played on their national runner-up team.

Monty Python's "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" always cheers me up after a #### weekend. Tennessee up on Toledo 54 to 24.

Agreed. Would Tim Floyd had stayed a little longer if they made it to the final 4 that year, or was he gone either way after the next season?

My completely informal, non-insider perspective, Floyd was going to jump to NBA asap, no matter what.

Sort of like Hoiberg, but Floyd was more immediately hell-bent on ascension.

Interesting fact: Both Floyd and Johnny Orr both lost post season tournament games to Rick Majerus. Orr lost first round of the NIT to Marquette and Floyd to Utah in the NCAA.

1996 I believe in the 2nd round after ISU beat down Cal in the first round (which I watched with a bunch of Bear fans in Berkeley!) I behaved. Only one big whoop, when Kelvin Cato had a monster dunk.

That's right! -- s*** I forgot the opponent in '96 ... 4v5 game ... I think ISU had a legit chance at winning it. ... I recall taking the afternoon off from work to watch it that season.

(Eventually I decided "why not take days off both Thursday and Friday?)

So... Just to recap this Iowa State school year:

1. Finally have an early NFL pick who is an explosive running back: tears ACL and out for season.
2. Have a feel-good story at QB who is leading his team to one of the best records in the NFL: freak injury that puts his throwing arm in jeopardy for the rest of his career, causing his team to miss the Super Bowl.
3. Football finally beats Iowa, proceeds to lose all the rest of the games except for one.
4. Men's basketball: starting PG tears his ACL in preseason, still make the tournament, but have an extraordinarily abysmal shooting effort and gets bounced in the first round of the tournament.
5. Women's basketball: tremendous start to the season, one of the stars tears her ACL, get bounced in the first round of the tournament to a team who loses by 50 in their next round.

Am I missing anything else?
