Worst Iowa State Team Ever?

Now realists are trolls.
On the offensive side of the ball there has not really been any improvement of players in the Rhoads era.
I don't know the answer to this question as I post it but I wonder if this is perhaps the most inexperienced team we've ever fielded? CPR didn't pull any redshirts last year and has one true freshman playing this year. I don't think he pulled any redshirts 2 years ago either but I could be mistaken. That being said, we have a TON of people without game experience prior to this year. If you look at how we play, we have a first unit that's competitive. Our second and third guys in are lost.
In order to compete over the course of a Big XII schedule you have to have not only depth but experienced depth. Right now if we get an injury, next guy in is deer in the headlights. This is why I have been saying give it some time. I think CPR does have a plan here. It's not a quick fix though. It's a get talented athletes in the program and get 5 years of strength training, practice, player development out of as many as possible.
Am i "satisfied" with a 1-2 win season? Absolutely not. But I am realistic. Oklahoma went through a period of bad football during their coaching changes after Switzer. Look at Colorado. They were a national champion in the early 90's ish time frame. Look at Notre Dame, they recruit nationally and still suck. Look at Alabama, we should have beaten them in a bowl game fairly recently. Even the best football programs with great athletes have unexpected bumps in the road. Don't forget, CPR is fighting 100 years of bad tradition. You all think you work hard and have difficult days at work. I would say you guys are expecting CPR to turn Blackberry into Apple without a bump in the road and that is unrealistic. Hell, at least Blackberry used to be good!

So what if we do not lose anyone on offense? Last five games: 7 points, 27 points, 7 points, 17 points, 10 points. Next Year 17, 10, 20, 21, 14 points? We need to get better shoes, shiny helmets, and use the new influx of players to score like we need to win. Right now the other team could have ten players (hockey penalty) and I am not confident we could score. Just no consistency. We shoot ourselves in the foot quite often. You are right, it must be better next year. However, the offense last year was better.
Boy, I have to say your posts in this thread make it seem like you really really don't want to rush to judgement, and haven't made up your mind about CPR... :skeptical:

Sure we went winless, but I don't see any 38 or 64 point beatdowns in there. Our 3rd worst loss this year (31 to OK State) is worse than our worst loss in '94 (28 twice to OU and Iowa). My coin is on this team being THE WORST. Earlier in the season, I thought this team was still better than the '03 team, but since then it has essentially morphed into the same team. '13 and '03 are the worst teams in ISU history if you ask me. Winless but not getting absolutely demoralized week in and week out is slightly better than 1 or 2 wins v.s. hapless opponents and then getting your *** handed to you all the other games.
That Nebraska team won the NC and went 13-0 that year.
That Colorado team was the one that went 11-1 with Cordell Steward, Rashaan Salaam, etc and if it weren't for Nebraska would have went undefeated and won a NC that year.
K-State was 9-3
KU was 6-5 even.
Frankly, I'm not sure this team could have done any better against that schedule.

I have to agree with this completely. This is not a super talented team, but there is a lot more talent on this team than a lot of Mac's first few team. This year reminds me a lot of Jim Criner's first year, where there where a handful of bright spots on the team, but they never could make plays when they needed to. In the last 2 weeks this team has had opportunities to win a game and to increase a lead in a game and they absolutely ****** it away.
All they needed against TCU was one stinking first down, or a decent punt, or to play defense for 2 minutes. They had a first and 10 at the 40 yesterday with 2.5 minutes left in the half and didn't even try to do anything with it, and then gave up the punt return. Other teams have to be laughing at how inept the ISU coaching staff and players are.
Someone needs to take over calling plays, and the players need to go out and execute at crunch time.
I saw the win against Baylor in 97 when we had a 1-10 record. Baylor was noticeably bigger and faster at every position. Remember in 97 baylor was not a powerhouse 2-9 and there was still a huge talent disparity baylor >> ISU. This group of players has way more potential than the 97 team.
The recruiting landscape was very different then. Almost no one but ISU and FSU was recruiting talented juco players from Florida and the rest of the southeast. Actually very few schools regularly recruited juco talent anywhere, which gave Earle Bruce a huge recruiting advantage, and the ability to rebuild the program in four years. Now all the name schools recruit all talented players no matter if they're prep or juco. Makes for a far more difficult recruiting landscape, hence a slower turnaround.
For those of you that think this is the worst team ever....never witnessed the Walden years. That was beyond terrible.
We may not have the talent or skill this year to compete at the level that we need, but I feel like we have the team spirit, great guys on the team, mostly good coaches, and an amazing Cyclone nation who will still show up and support a 1-9 team.
In the Walden era, you'd be luck to have 50 people in the stands for a November game against like Colorado.
I'll take this bad year and an the amazing Cyclone nation that CPR has helped build over any Walden year.

While I'll admit there is a greater excitement within the ISU program now as compared to the Walden era but the product on the field is sadly not much different. We freaking lost to UNI and have been blown out repeatedly. In fact, it looked like the team gave up against OU. So yes, this team gets the honor of at least being discussed if we are talking all time worst ISU teams. Winning one game tends to do that. I am not saying it is, but they are definitely in the discussion.
There will be a drop for sure, but if Rhoads shows the fan base that changes are being made I think the fans still show up one more year just based on his 'successes' so far. Next year is definitely the turning point...said Capt. Obvious.
I predict only a slight drop in season ticket sales.
