World Baseball Classic

Just imagine if this is how baseball was taught and played everywhere. If there were like 50 of these guys that hit, pitch, run, field like Ohtani baseball might actually be fun.
They don’t all have to be like Ohtani. If all baseball was just like the Japanese players in general. Better, more exciting baseball overall.

I freaking love the Japanese style of play.

I’m a baseball geek and watching a non playoff game is a chore because of how long the games are and the horrible style of play in the MLB.

But WBC was awesome. Watching Mexico, PR, DR, US and Japan play in this was very entertaining.

Ohtani needs to be on the Tiger and Jordan level of sports celebrity.

I think in 10-15 years we will truly see the effect the WBC and Shohei had on young kids. He’ll be a lot of little kids favorite player no matter where you’re from. This tourney was a big deal for the future of the game and will continue to do so.

I see Ohtani pitched, but how many of Japan’s pitchers are MLB players?
Yu Darvish, Roki Sasaki will be eventually. They’re all nasty.

Hitters are great too

Yoshida is with the Red Sox, Nootbaar with the Cardinals, Ohtani with the Angels, Murakami will be over in a few years.

Believe just Ohtani & Darvish but they had several guys come in who were throwing 94-97 mph with good breaking stuff as well. They have strange rules where they can't leave Japan until they are many years into their professional career. He didn't pitch today but they also probably have the best young pitcher on the planet right now in Sasaki.

Four solo homers and a ground out rbi.

Middle innings, the US had two on with two out. Schwarber up with a 3-0 count. Trea Turner on deck. Schwarber tries to hit the next pitch, an off speed pitch mind you, 800 feet and pops it up.

The most exciting play of the game was when the Japanese guy stole second in the 8th.

Sorry…I saw a lot of the same old ****, and it’s why basketball sucks now.

Velo was surprisingly high for Japan and lots of guys with nasty splitters. I’d say most of them could be MLB guys.

I agree. But they get paid very well in Japan too and get to play at home so it’s not a dream for a lot of them to play in the MLB.

I agree, I just think if their pitchers wanted to get to the MLB they could. Very impressive.

Are the Japanese actual world champs then? or is it still some team from the USA?

Well technically the winner of the WBC would be the world champion. But the World Series champion also claims that lol. I would absolutely love if the World Series winner and the Japanese league winner would play a 3 game series sometime
