Will the BIG10 Reverse Their Decision?

The idea that you don't need to be tested if you have been exposed but don't have symptoms seems questionable given the need to contact trace. Seems more like a 'reduce testing to reduce cases' move.
Yeah contract tracing would get all messed up in this scenario.

Since some people are telling COVID stories, here is mine.
We have a good friend in Wisconsin. Mid 60’s, never smoked, very fit. Works out 4/5 times a week. Hikes, bikes etc.
Last week she got out of the hospital after 66 days in for COVID. Made the local Madison news, with the hospital staff cheering her. Her husband and family could not see her those 66 days - only Zoom.
She is now home, and on oxygen. She is on the list for a double lung transplant as COVID ravaged her lungs. Her battle is far from over. Her husband caught it too, and for him it was like a really bad cold. Nasty stuff.
It is insane how diverse this thing is. Some (a small few and usually with underlying health conditions seemingly) suffer immensely and have their quality of life impeded on tremendously like your friend. Others (the majority seemingly) suffer cold or flu like symptoms at worse, or are entirely asymptomatic. I don't know if some people are lying or getting misdiagnosed, or if rona just truly is that unpredictable. Somewhere in the middle are those like CW and the female student at Iowa who report loss of smell, or in her case, a headache and slight fever which caused a positive test, but was otherwise fine. It's just all over the board

Wonder if it has to do with genetic makeup and or blood type. I too know of a couple in their late 60's who both had it. Husband had a sniffle and cough. Wife was on a ventilator for 5 weeks. We all thought she was going to die. She's totally fine now. No lung damage. Basically back to normal.

Bringing kids back to school was always just a money-grab for Colleges. They knew if they started online-only that enrollment would plummet. Get them on campus, get them on the hook for tuition and blame them for why you have to shut it down when cases inevitably spike.

That one's easy peasy.

Also, put it in the "everything in America is a scam" file.

I have not really read anything that explains why it hits some people so hard - except the obvious age and pre existing stuff. I read the study on blood type, although interesting, I think even the authors said it was inconclusive and required more study. I actually believe that someday we will know many more answers. Be safe and let’s all protect each other.

That's weird. Do they all live together?
Take this article for what it’s worth, but we do know this thing is highly contagious.

Just thinking out loud but I wonder if there is a genetic component to this. Reason I say this is because I was exposed to Beryllium at my job. So far I am what is called Beryllium Sensitive which means that I reacted but have not yet progressed to Chronic Beryllium Disease (CBD). CBD is a nasty lung disease. The reaction to exposure is similar to Coronavirus in that a machinist in the old days could breathe Beryllium in 8 hours a day and nothing. His wife that never was in the plant could be doing laundry and 1 speck enters her lungs and boom full blown CBD. The theory is that something in the genetic makeup of the person determines the reaction. So far they haven't found the genetic markers so research is ongoing. Maybe, just maybe, there is a genetic component to coronavirus too since in some people it is a nasty lung disease too.

Probably TMI but I figured if I speculated I should provide some basis.

There is also evidence that there are multiple strains or variants of SARS-CoV-2 which would explain how some have very minor symptoms and some die. This stuff is super complicated when you start taking all the variables into account: genetics, age, underlying conditions, lifestyle, virus mutation, etc, etc.

It’s estimated the current North American strain is 10x more contagious than the original Asian strain. But also slightly less virulent.
