Ironically Memphis hasn't played in the Liberty Bowl since 2017 vs ISU. It stinks but looks like we would be an 8-12 point favorite and would love to get to 8 wins.

For fans it's weird to have a bowl rematch so soon (because it is soon in the context of a rematch in a bowl) but have to remember half of the players were in middle school when that game happened.

A cold weather road / away game against a G5 opponent... is just not a bowl game.

I have never been to a bowl game. Just never in the cards. But with Memphis just a short drive away, I am kind of rooting for that spot, but I would prefer not to play Memphis. I understand the sentiments that many of you bring about location and matchups, but this is a grand opportunity for me. If this is my only bowl, and this is the best it can be for me, I will take it.

It is 23 degrees warmer in Memphis than DesMoines right now anecdotally.

I hope Big 12 gets some of Pac 12's nicer weather bowl game slots. There's the new "LA Bowl" at Sofi that is #1MWC vs #5Pac.

They also have Holiday/San Diego, Sun/El Paso and Las Vegas. All four of those wouldn't be bad. Their others are already vs Big 12.

Maybe all of this is already known but I haven't read anything about it.

It would make sense that their affiliations mostly go to Big 12 and Big Ten, with maybe one to ACC or MWC since the league is getting carved up 4/4/2/2 that way.

And now, for the really important stuff...

Jersey color pattern in Big 12 bowls:

Bowl20192020202120222023
TexasOSU - whitecanceledKSU - purpleTech - reddark?
LibertyKSU - whiteWVU - blueTech - whiteKU - bluewhite?
Guaranteed Raten/a*canceledWVU - whiteOSU - orangewhite?

2021 Texas Bowl - KSU home team; LSU wore white
2022 Texas Bowl - Ole Miss home team; both teams wore "dark" jerseys (Tech in red, Ole Miss in powder blue)

*Air Force was the Big 12 replacement (not enough teams) and wore white

Another thing about possibly facing Memphis -- I like bowl matchups to be opponents ISU has not played in a bowl, at least in recent past. If we got A&M in Texas Bowl (if that's even a possiblity), that's a "repeat" but it dates to 1978 (Hall of Fame). Minnesota in the Whatever Bowl is fewer than 15 years, that wouldn't bother me too much.
Yep! I have always found it odd that Iowa State has never playd a team more than once in a Bowl Game. At some point, that has to end! :)

Reminds me of the 2012 Liberty Bowl. I can't remember if we were supposed to be home or away. But our fans were originally supposed to be on the press box side, meaning Tulsa's would be opposite the cameras and thus visible on the broadcast. The bowl and schools agreed to swap sidelines and put our fans on the visible side of the stadium. We also both wore home uniforms for a red vs. blue matchup.

I very clearly remember half of that stadium packed full of red and the other half looking like a respectable high school turnout. Didn't end up mattering in the result, unfortunately.

The last time isu met memphis the stadium was packed. not many bowls fill out in december. This is the benefit of playing memphis in memphis. the environment last time was fantastic.

One of the best ever turnouts for a bowl of that tier I would imagine. Hardly any of them sell out and actually are packed, too.

Oh my. That photo is fantastic. Because I was looking at the two colors of the fans in the stadium, I almost missed the 747 doing the fly-by!

I'm not sure about that. It did a fly-by and seemed pretty close from the stands
B/C it was so closed, I assumed it was pasted.

It appears you may have been in attendance and witnessed the plane…?

I’m surprised the plane could get so close to the stadium.

My apologies on my assumption.
