Why not Loney?

Loney WILL NOT be a coordinator. It's head coach or nothing.

Then nothing. IMO, ISU does not have enough positive football tradition to feel the need to hire a guy that was a part of that. He may bleed cardinal and gold, but it takes more than bleeding to compete in the Big 12.

Exactly. I bleed cardinal and gold. I promise to never leave. Pay me $1 million plus per year.

Loney is a good coach and would give all his energy to ISU. Loney or Solich would probable stay here and not chase the next hot job like the last snake. They also would get ISU consistent 6 or 7 wins seasons(hey we're at rock bottom, 6 or 7 looks real good right now). I'm going to refrain from saying he would be a good fit. Fit and Steve Loney should not be used in the same sentence. Steve has a rather large waistline.

What is it with people willing to settle for 6-7 wins a season? i want 8, 9, 10 wins. Loney's not capable of getting us there. It remains to be seen whether someone like Gill or Patterson is capable of getting us there, but certainly Loney isn't. Therefore, he's not an option IMO.

Go coach in the NFL for 5+ years, be the O-Coordinator/O-Line coach on a team with a back to back 2,000 yard rushers. Help coach ISU to a 9-3 season. And promise to never leave and you might have a chance. Loney is our best choice.

You know what, all you people saying we should hire a new flashy guy. Your right. I want a big name coach again so in two years we can be doing all this again. Cuz lets face it, this is fun.
Pollard, dont be stupid, hire Loney!!!!!!

Ask the ugly girl with no personality to go to the prom. She won't turn you down and will be your girlfriend forever.

Yes I want a big name coach again. If he leaves us in two years for a bigger gig then we are NOT a coaching graveyard. At the very least that would make us a stepping stone. The BIGGEST danger is to hire a no name coach who achieves no success but will stay forever. The quality of our recruits goes downhill and we lose, lose, lose. The stadium gets emptier. Revenues dry up.

As far as Loney. Yes this is his dream job. But don't think for a minute that if the Minnesota Vikings offered him the HC job that he wouldn't leave. You know he would. He left us before. And while he was good at X's and O's he wasn't a good recruiter. I was on the Gill bandwagon. I thought he was a perfect fit. A guy with character and class. But there are other good choices out there. Todd Graham seems like he can really coach. Possibly the brains behind Kragthorpe when he was at Tulsa. That Bailliff at Rice doesn't seem too bad. Kirby Wilson seems to get a lot of looks as does Charlie Strong but I prefer a HC with some experience. There has to be some coaches in the MAC that would come our way. I think Solich might even be better than Loney and might stay. No need to panic. But Loney did leave us in a lurch for greener pastures. How are the Rams doing anyway? Maybe Loney needs to concentrate on his current job.

What are you talking about? Give me examples of his "poor" recruiting. Back that statement up.

Name me some of Loney's targets that we got while he was here at ISU. I can't name one that was a great get. How is THAT for an example?

Just you saying that comment goes to show just how ignorant you are, and not knowing who he actually recruited. You can't do it. I can however...so i'll name a few of them.

Pat Augafa-Played center....massive, powerful Samoan guy. Mauler on those solid 0-lines when TD was here. Had a cup of coffee in the NFL as well.

Oliver Ross-Current NFL player for the Arizona Cardnals.

Ben Bruns-All-American candidate...very solid football player.

Lorenzo White-Good football player who also went on to have NFL experience.

Marc Cortez-An unfortunate Injury riddled career but was a very good football player.

Granted there were some busts along the way...but EVERY coach has them.

Loney's loyalty I question. He leaves every time we hire him. Name recognition is not there. Is he really that good at what he does now? I think you need to look at what he has done.
What is his age? Tuberville or Fulmer way better hire in my opinion.

Just because Loney was the OL coach doesn't mean he recruited ANY of those guys.

And just because Loney MIGHT have recruited those guys doesn't mean that if we hire Loney and use those guys as an excuse to why "Loney is such a great football coach and has abilities to recruit" doesn't mean the rest of the nation doesn't look at us with a silly face, chuckle, and say "Who? :biglaugh:"

Loney would probably be a worse hire than Farley - at least that guy has proven that he can at least GET to a position where he has the opportunity to blow it on a semi-national stage... (by the way, I'm not suggesting hiring Farley - I think he's a poor choice as well).

Those are just the ones i for sure know about. He recruited them.

Last three stops in the NFL for Loney were the Vikings, Cardinals and Rams. How did he do there?

Loney moves around more than anyone. Most of the time it is because he hasn't really done that well. Why did he leave us TWICE? Because he loved ISU so much?
