Why is Kinnick Stadium considered historic?

It is actually a typo that nobody has corrected. It was originally Hysteric Kinnick Stadium. Even the dictionary example fits Hawk fans.

hys·ter·ic
həˈsterik/
noun
  1. 1.
    informal
a wildly emotional and exaggerated reaction.
"the child has been seized with regular fits of hysterics at bedtime"
synonyms: hysteria, wildness, feverishness, irrationality, frenzy, loss of control, delirium, derangement, mania
    "a fit of hysterics"
This is an amazing post!

I was told in the other thread that "its because of the pink locker rooms and countless top 5 victories"

Countless, come on now. What do they have maybe 10 there since it was opened. They have beat Ohio State like 3 times in that time. The media needs to stop being so lazy when it comes to giving statement on Iowa sports.

It's just an acronym that someone in the promotional department at Iowa stuck in front of Kinnick. It is old, so there is that, so there have been a lot of games played there. I suspect it is a way for to make Hawk fans think it is really awesome, and way better than those new stadiums that everyone else is building.

Doesn't seem as weird as the Iowa State Varsity Marching Band. I know there are a couple more acronyms in there somewhere.

The difference being that there is an actual backstory to the moniker from back in the day involving Earle Bruce. By contrast, no one seems to know the origin of "Historic" Kinnick.

And it's Iowa State University Cyclone Football 'Varsity' Marching Band, thank you very much.

It is like when cities designate an older building as some sort of historic structure. then they can get government money to dump into it. It's all a marketing money scam. Europeans laugh their asses off at American "historic" old structures.

IMO Kinnick lost the "historic" title when they removed the piss troughs and installed urinals.

Up until recently, JT just had the porta pots at the south end zone seats, or you had to walk up to either side to go in a non-plastic toidy hut

Funny, I remember Historic Kinnick Stadium have a similar setup in the old south end zone when the bleachers were made out of ******* scaffolding.

In all fairness, it was made from old scaffolding. I mean, "historic scaffolding."
