Why is Kinnick Stadium considered historic?

Does this really bother clone fans this much?
I get a much different interpretation when reading this thread. Based on what is being posted here, the only possible stadium of historical significance would be the first stadium named after an African-American.

I guess I am not sold that anyone outside of the isu fan base would see it this way.

Does this thread really bother hawk fans this much?

...she asked, innocently...

I was told in the other thread that "its because of the pink locker rooms and countless top 5 victories"

Which gets confusing, because you only count their ranking at the end of the year per hawks. They said TCU wasn’t a top five win because they didn’t finish in the top five. So, I learned that Iowa has never been ranked number one.

I guess not since I am 2 - 0 against Iowa in Kinnick :)

To be historic it needs to be at least 50 years old, have some unique architectural character or association with someone important in history. In terms of unique architecture, it also needs to retain a certain amount of its original integrity (not be significantly modified from its original form).

Kinnick doesn't appear to be formally listed on the National Register of Historic Places but it is likely eligible for listing. It is listed as "Iowa Stadium" on the state of Iowa archaeological database as a historic building.

Over fifty. Check.
Unique architecture, maybe. Primarily retaining its original integrity. Not so much.
Association with someone important in history. Relative...it's named for one of 79 Heismann trophy winners, the only one who went to Iowa (iirc). Hardly significant in the grand scheme of all things historic but certainly important to a Hawkeye.

Basically, it's historic because it's an old(er) building that was named for a former Hawkeye who was pretty darn good at football...

Did I do that right?

Because they are a fan base and athletic department of gimmicks that tavern hoks go crazy for.

"Historic Kinnick Stadium"
"Historic Highway 965"
Card stunts
ANF even though they don't support farmers
Gator chomp
Spelling Iowa after touchdowns
Calling their logo "iconic"
Giving their logo a name "Tiger Hawk" when it actually looks like a chicken
Wearing Steeler uniforms
Holding hands and running onto the field and calling it a swarm even though they are not the hornets, yellow jackets or bumblebees
Pink locker rooms

IMO - Historic just means old and is a meaningless adjective in front of a stadium name. I think Hawk fans are trying to equate Historic with Iconic. Kininck Stadium is not Iconic.

Historic porta potty rape?

Historic BF meltdown requiring security?

Historically, pink was the color for boys.
