Why has CMC stayed in Ames?

I have to give Gonzo credit here. No only did Iowa invent wearing black, which we all know they did, but in this post he also claims that they started focusing on TEs, OL play (a real doozy), and (my personal favorite) the QB sneak. Bravo my friend, mid season form.
He's been running that same troll for a while with no success. He used to be clever too back in the day

CMC has obviously failed at developing an OL. I mean I was told by ISU fans that Manning was the reigning national OL coach of the year, and he and CMC would develop great OL's. Um, that hasn't happend.

CMC also needs to get himself a specials teams coach and start "winning the margins" like he preaches. They have been laughably bad at special teams, I mean how many games does ISU have to lose because of special teams before he address this?

What does special teams have to do with my post?

This is just absolutely infuriating to me. By my count, in the past year we've lost the Iowa, KSU, and Louisiana games in large part due to special teams failures.

Everyone doesn't know by now that the players chose those uniforms and helmets?
Like I get its a troll, but still?

Just a follow up to CMC biggest weakness next to OL play, and that is special teams play.

ISU had the 12th most efficient offense in the country last year. It is safe to say that special teams is a far more glaring weakness than OL play.

ISU plays in a defense optional league, it inflates those numbers. Heck a Sun Belt team kept ISU to 14.

In Big 10 vs Big 12 games last year do you think the Big 10 teams scored above their conference PPG average or below their conference PPG average? Guess

Don't care what the Big10 did. I do know that last year vs non conference P5 teams ISU averaged 13 PPG that was nearly 20 PPG below their season average.

I KNOW, right?

I think all we need are some racist coaches, a double set of rules and systemic ways to make our non-white players feel unwelcome then we've arrived!

So what you meant to say was the conference is “defense optional” only in reference to Iowa State. Makes sense.

Campbell is a good coach. I fully think he enjoys Ames and wants to stay there for the foreseeable future and build something. I figured he'd have 7-8 win seasons, maybe a 9 here and there and keep his status up for quite a while and eventually get an offer at a blue-blood which he'd take.

With how crazy this year has been and how crazy the season will likely be, I have no idea how ISU fill finish. If they keep improving, see above. If they struggle, I think he might realize taking a more lateral position/slight upgrade might be in his interest so he doesn't lose steam. Doesn't mean he'd take it by any means, but I think he takes it into consideration more seriously than he would have the last couple of years.

Having said that, I'd be very surprised if he isn't at ISU 4 years from now.

I think you are right! The only thing that could change my opinion is if JP leaves and the new AD is a tool. CMC is in a great place for his family. A great fan base. And an AD he seems to like. I would be surprised if he leaves for a Blue Blood program like Michigan, OSU or Notre Dame. Quality of life will be much better in Ames.
