Why Bo & Schwartz should be excited

Other than the rounding up part, does any other aspect of your post make the slightest bit of sense?

My post is a bunch of actual historical records. They are called statistics. To some people they do.

My conclusion that Herman is very similar to Chizik's offense is based on stats that are very similar.

Rhoads has coached under Dan McCarney who built his offense on 1,000 yard rushers, Pitt's current coach Wannastead who ran the ball so much he made Ricky Williams quit for a year and last coached at Auburn, known as running back U.

I know Rhoads coaches the Defense, but don't you think he might be on the same page with a few of these coaches regarding the running game philosophy to coach with all of these run first type coaches?

At 12 carries a game, you only need to average 8.33 per carry to get a 100 yards.

I don't think we're going to run the rock much. I don't think his offense is built to do so. You'll occasionally run one, but other than that, passing is what fuels this engine.

Personally, I don't care if we wonly run it 12 times a game. That's fine with me. We have AA and some very good receivers. May as well take advantage of them and it's the perfect fit for his pass first offense.

its not if you care that we only run the ball 12+ times a game its the RBs

if they dont think they are contributing in the way they want to they will quit or transfer if we arent winning

and if they leave that takes out those 12 carries which makes us all passing which is highly predicitible (Ole Miss vs TT) and it will also take away the short passing game because our recievers have no moves to play a short passing game

If you look at the initial post and the sheer stupidity of the points he's trying to make and how he's trying to do it, I think you can agree a negative response was warranted.

"So the stats show that Bo will be at worst the same under the new coaches for carries, but most likely will have more and will play in an extra game (bowl game). "

Yes, the stats clearly show that.
The above statement may be a bit of a jump without extra explanation. Rice had more than 100 extra offensive plays than ISU did in 2008. They averaged more plays per game and their top talents were a WR and TE catching record setting numbers of catches. Gotta think some and come to your own conclusion, which is apparently that this makes no sense.

Hey, NewCyclone,

I want to say 'welcome!', and I want to ask you a question, too.

As you can see, like fans everywhere, we have individuals who take incomplete information and extrapolate conclusions from it. For example: Coach Herman will attempt to employ the very same strategy here (rushing QB) that he used at Rice.

I expect Coach Herman to develop a strategy for the weapons he finds at Iowa State, not force-feed Rice tactics on ISU's style of play.

Question: Based on your knowledge of Coach Herman, please tell us what you think Coach will do at ISU: Install a specific scheme and ask ISU players to conform to it, or install a specific scheme that makes best use of the skills of the players on hand?

Wow, 9 returning starters on Offense I hadn't realized that. If AA is as good as it sounds like he is I'd be surprised to see Tiller starting unless something unexpected happened in spring ball. I do expect to see Tiller down the road put up some special numbers when he gets bigger based on what I've heard of him here.

The RB sounds like a tougher one but I can tell you that too many good players is NOT a problem for the offense the Cyclones will be runnign this year. TH is not afraid to go 4 or even 5 wide and will use his RB's in any capacity that works. I just hope the RB's can catch the ball!!!

Coach has worked with some very special WR's in Jonathan Cooper at Sam Houston State and Jarrett Dillard at Rice and a couple of very good QB's in Josh McCown (still in NFL), the QB at Texas State, forgot his name but believe he was 1-AA POY his senior year and Conf USA player of the year Chase Clement this year. Chase will be on an NFL roster next year, mark that down.

He wasn't just fortunate enough to get this kind of talent at places like Sam Houston State, Texas State and Rice, he made these guys great.

To my recollection he's never really had good RB's to work with but I do know that he LOVES to effectively run the ball. He's not going to run a spread like old school Houston (Klingler, Ware) June Jones Hawaii or even like Texas Tech throwing the ball 50-60 times. Not his style, he runs the ball even without a running game to set up the pass and LOVES to get his QB's running.

I like the sound of that. Balanced attack. Run to set up a pass and when he does pass, not afraid to get creative.

Thank you. Said it much better than I did with stats that make no sense.

An update on Bo Williams, He is aware of the Herman hiring, hasnt looked into what he is about too much yet, hasn't talked to Herman, But coach Rhoads has called him about every other day, and Bo really likes him for that. Coach Rhoads recruited Bo out of high school. Bo is more concerned with the RB coach hire and would like to see Stan Drayton. Also, many many players, including Bo, would like to see coach Shep and Becton retained. Bo is excited to return to Ames and get started.

Would you please say a word about Coach Drayton? Don't know a thing about him. Is he a guy who's on PR's radar?

Know if Coach Shep and Coach Rhoads have talked? I wonder if Shep and Becton have any interest in staying at Iowa State, that is, do they like the place, or are they eager to pass through as did the man who hired them?

At least Bo is reporting for classes next week. That's great news. Hope he gets up to speed fast on Coach Herman.

Coach Drayton is someone Bo mentioned to Rhoads, I dont know how much of a candidate he may be for the position, he has a nice resume, hopefully he gets a look. Bo wasnt impressed with Boulware as a RB coach, so It wouldnt hurt to listen to a kid who has been to the University of Florida.

Ive not heard much on Coach Shep, as far as I know, they werent retained. I knew that he wanted to stay however.

Bo just seemed to think he was "Still out there"

As of today, if you'd care to comment, how do you think we're sitting with player retention - current Cyclones and commitments? Does Coach Rhoads appear to be healing the program's wound?

Hey, thanks.

Id say as of now, we are doing a lot better, many guys are coming back. I think we may lose a few, but Rhoads did a real good job healing wounds. as for recruits, Ive taked to Beau Blankenship, hes on, but thinks it will feel weird without chiz, likes Fountain tho, Deon Broomfield is good to go, he was recruited by fountain, and ive also talked to Ryan Mosby, he too was happy to hear fountain was staying, but also wanted Bolt around.

only time will tell, I think we will be ok

I think we may lose a few

Any of the 16 or so returning starters? Not names, but some?

Fountain's a pretty important guy, isn't he? Critical bridge between the staffs. His ability to vouch for PR to our commitments looks really big.

Sure hope DJ Breshears remains with us. I thought he looked sensational in his highlight videos. But, he's a Texas kid, and he must be familiar with Coach Herman's reputation, so can't help but think he'd be excited about the future here .

Rhoads did a real good job healing wounds

Say, he'll get another shot at keeping our guys, won't he? Because of the break, most of the kids have not met him personally, correct? So, when Rhoads and the staff meet the players at the team meeting set for Jan. 12, gotta think that could be important.
